Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:	1 Слова царя Лемуела, царя Масси, | що їх навчила його мати:
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?	2 Що, сину мій? Що, сину мого лона? | Що, сину моїх обітниць?
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.	3 Не віддавай жінкам твоєї сили, | ні твого серця тим, що царів гублять.
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.	4 То не царям, о Лемуеле, | не царям вино пити, | ані князям бажати п’янких напоїв!
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.	5 Щоб вони, напившись, знову не забули, | та не покривили суду всіх, що пригноблені.
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.	6 Дайте п’янких напоїв тому, що погибає, | і вина тим, яким на серці гірко;
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.	7 нехай п’є й забуде свої злидні, | і нехай більше не згадує про своє горе.
8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.	8 Відкрий твої уста на користь німого, | для всіх, що їм виречено погибель.
9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.	9 Відкрий твої уста, суди по правді, | розсуди діло бідного та сіромахи.
10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.	10 Жінку цнотливу — хто її знайде? | Ціна її вища над перлини!
11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.	11 Серце її мужа покладається на неї; | йому не бракуватиме прибутку.
12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.	12 Вона чинить йому добро, не зло, | покіль віку в неї.
13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.	13 Дбає про льон та вовну, | радо працює власними руками.
14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.	14 Вона, немов ті кораблі купецькі, | здалека хліб привозить.
15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.	15 Встає удосвіта, дає домашнім їжу, | і пай своїм слугиням.
16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.	16 До поля придивляється і його купує, | і з власних рук дорібку виноградник садить.
17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.	17 Стан вона свій підперізує міцно, | й береться жваво до роботи.
18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.	18 Бачить, що її праця процвітає, | світло її вночі не гасне.
19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.	19 Руки до кужеля простягає, | а пальці її держать веретено.
20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.	20 Вона для вбогого розтуляє долоню, | нужденному подає руку.
21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.	21 Сніг не страшний для її хати, | бо вся її сім’я одягнена подвійно.
22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.	22 Покривала вона собі готує, | льон тонкий і порфіра — її одежа.
23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.	23 Мужа її шанують у воротях, | як засідає зо старшинами краю.
24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.	24 Вона тче тонке полотно й продає, | і пояси купцеві доставляє.
25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.	25 Сила й гідність — її одежа, | і вона собі сміється з прийдешнього дня.
26 She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.	26 Уста свої з мудрістю відкриває, | доброта науки на язиці в неї.
27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.	27 Ретельно наглядає за ходом справ у хаті, | хліба не знає їсти, нічого не робивши.
28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.	28 Діти її встають і її величають, | муж її теж її вихваляє.
29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.	29 Сила було жінок цнотливих, | ти ж перевищила усіх їх.
30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.	30 Краса — річ оманлива, врода — марна; | жінка, що Господа боїться, — така хвали достойна!
31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.	31 Дайте їй з того, що надбали її руки, | і нехай її вчинки хвалять її при брамі.
