1 He entered Jericho and was going through the town	1 Potem wszedł do Jerycha i przechodził przez miasto.
2 and suddenly a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior taxcol ectors and a wealthy man.	2 A /był tam/ pewien człowiek, imieniem Zacheusz, zwierzchnik celników i bardzo bogaty.
3 He kept trying to see which Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd;	3 Chciał on koniecznie zobaczyć Jezusa, kto to jest, ale nie mógł z powodu tłumu, gdyż był niskiego wzrostu.
4 so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way.	4 Pobiegł więc naprzód i wspiął się na sykomorę, aby móc Go ujrzeć, tamtędy bowiem miał przechodzić.
5 When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry,because I am to stay at your house today.'	5 Gdy Jezus przyszedł na to miejsce, spojrzał w górę i rzekł do niego: Zacheuszu, zejdź prędko, albowiem dziś muszę się zatrzymać w twoim domu.
6 And he hurried down and welcomed him joyful y.	6 Zeszedł więc z pośpiechem i przyjął Go rozradowany.
7 They al complained when they saw what was happening. 'He has gone to stay at a sinner's house,'they said.	7 A wszyscy, widząc to, szemrali: Do grzesznika poszedł w gościnę.
8 But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, 'Look, sir, I am going to give half my property tothe poor, and if I have cheated anybody I wil pay him back four times the amount.'	8 Lecz Zacheusz stanął i rzekł do Pana: Panie, oto połowę mego majątku daję ubogim, a jeśli kogo w czym skrzywdziłem, zwracam poczwórnie.
9 And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son ofAbraham;	9 Na to Jezus rzekł do niego: Dziś zbawienie stało się udziałem tego domu, gdyż i on jest synem Abrahama.
10 for the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost.'	10 Albowiem Syn Człowieczy przyszedł szukać i zbawić to, co zginęło.
11 While the people were listening to this he went on to tel a parable, because he was near Jerusalemand they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there.	11 Gdy słuchali tych rzeczy, dodał jeszcze przypowieść, dlatego że był blisko Jerozolimy, a oni myśleli, że królestwo Boże zaraz się zjawi.
12 Accordingly he said, 'A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and thenreturn.	12 Mówił więc: Pewien człowiek szlachetnego rodu udał się w kraj daleki, aby uzyskać dla siebie godność królewską i wrócić.
13 He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, tel ing them, "Trade with these, until Iget back."	13 Przywołał więc dziesięciu sług swoich, dał im dziesięć min i rzekł do nich: Zarabiajcie nimi, aż wrócę.
14 But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to fol ow him with this message, "We do notwant this man to be our king."	14 Ale jego współobywatele nienawidzili go i wysłali za nim poselstwo z oświadczeniem: Nie chcemy, żeby ten królował nad nami.
15 'Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for thoseservants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading.	15 Gdy po otrzymaniu godności królewskiej wrócił, kazał przywołać do siebie te sługi, którym dał pieniądze, aby się dowiedzieć, co każdy zyskał.
16 The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten."	16 Stawił się więc pierwszy i rzekł: Panie, twoja mina przysporzyła dziesięć min.
17 He replied, "Wel done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very smalthing, you shal have the government of ten cities."	17 Odpowiedział mu: Dobrze, sługo dobry; ponieważ w dobrej rzeczy okazałeś się wierny, sprawuj władzę nad dziesięciu miastami.
18 Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five."	18 Także drugi przyszedł i rzekł: Panie, twoja mina przyniosła pięć min.
19 To this one also he said, "And you shal be in charge of five cities."	19 Temu też powiedział: I ty miej władzę nad pięciu miastami.
20 Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth	20 Następny przyszedł i rzekł: Panie, tu jest twoja mina, którą trzymałem zawiniętą w chustce.
21 because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid outand reap what you have not sown."	21 Lękałem się bowiem ciebie, bo jesteś człowiekiem surowym: chcesz brać, czegoś nie położył, i żąć, czegoś nie posiał.
22 He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I wasan exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown?	22 Odpowiedział mu: Według słów twoich sądzę cię, zły sługo. Wiedziałeś, że jestem człowiekiem surowym: chcę brać, gdzie nie położyłem, i żąć, gdziem nie posiał.
23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out withinterest."	23 Czemu więc nie dałeś moich pieniędzy do banku? A ja po powrocie byłbym je z zyskiem odebrał.
24 And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has tenpounds."	24 Do obecnych zaś rzekł: Odbierzcie mu minę i dajcie temu, który ma dziesięć min.
25 And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ."	25 Odpowiedzieli mu: Panie, ma już dziesięć min.
26 "I tel you, to everyone who has wil be given more; but anyone who has not wil be deprived even ofwhat he has.	26 Powiadam wam: Każdemu, kto ma, będzie dodane; a temu, kto nie ma, zabiorą nawet to, co ma.
27 "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in mypresence." '	27 Tych zaś przeciwników moich, którzy nie chcieli, żebym panował nad nimi, przyprowadźcie tu i pościnajcie w moich oczach.
28 When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Po tych słowach ruszył na przedzie, zdążając do Jerozolimy.
29 Now it happened that when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as itis cal ed, he sent two of the disciples, saying,	29 Gdy przyszedł w pobliże Betfage i Betanii, do góry zwanej Oliwną, wysłał dwóch spośród uczniów,
30 'Go to the vil age opposite, and as you enter it you wil find a tethered colt that no one has ever yetridden. Untie it and bring it here.	30 mówiąc: Idźcie do wsi, która jest naprzeciwko, a wchodząc do niej, znajdziecie oślę uwiązane, którego jeszcze nikt nie dosiadł. Odwiążcie je i przyprowadźcie tutaj.
31 If anyone asks you, "Why are you untying it?" you are to say this, "The Master needs it." '	31 A gdyby was kto pytał: Dlaczego odwiązujecie?, tak powiecie: Pan go potrzebuje.
32 The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them.	32 Wysłani poszli i znaleźli wszystko tak, jak im powiedział.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said, 'Why are you untying it?'	33 A gdy odwiązywali oślę, zapytali ich jego właściciele: Czemu odwiązujecie oślę?
34 and they answered, 'The Master needs it.'	34 Odpowiedzieli: Pan go potrzebuje.
35 So they took the colt to Jesus and, throwing their cloaks on its back, they lifted Jesus on to it.	35 I przyprowadzili je do Jezusa, a zarzuciwszy na nie swe płaszcze, wsadzili na nie Jezusa.
36 As he moved off, they spread their cloaks in the road,	36 Gdy jechał, słali swe płaszcze na drodze.

39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, 'Master, reprove your disciples,'	39 Lecz niektórzy faryzeusze spośród tłumu rzekli do Niego: Nauczycielu, zabroń tego swoim uczniom.
40 but he answered, 'I tell you, if these keep silence, the stones wil cry out.'	40 Odrzekł: Powiadam wam: Jeśli ci umilkną, kamienie wołać będą.
41 As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it	41 Gdy był już blisko, na widok miasta zapłakał nad nim
42 and said, 'If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden fromyour eyes!	42 i rzekł: O gdybyś i ty poznało w ten dzień to, co służy pokojowi. Ale teraz zostało to zakryte przed twoimi oczami.
43 Yes, a time is coming when your enemies wil raise fortifications all round you, when they wil encircleyou and hem you in on every side;	43 Bo przyjdą na ciebie dni, gdy twoi nieprzyjaciele otoczą cię wałem, oblegną cię i ścisną zewsząd.
44 they wil dash you and the children inside your wal s to the ground; they wil leave not one stonestanding on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'	44 Powalą na ziemię ciebie i twoje dzieci z tobą i nie zostawią w tobie kamienia na kamieniu za to, żeś nie rozpoznało czasu twojego nawiedzenia.
45 Then he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them,	45 Potem wszedł do świątyni i zaczął wyrzucać sprzedających w niej.
46 'According to scripture, my house shal be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits'den.'	46 Mówił do nich: Napisane jest: Mój dom będzie domem modlitwy, a wy uczyniliście z niego jaskinię zbójców.
47 He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leadingcitizens, tried to do away with him,	47 I nauczał codziennie w świątyni. Lecz arcykapłani i uczeni w Piśmie oraz przywódcy ludu czyhali na Jego życie.
48 but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.	48 Tylko nie wiedzieli, co by mogli uczynić, cały lud bowiem słuchał Go z zapartym tchem.
