1 But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them.	1 Душі праведних у руці Божій, | і мука не спіткає їх.
2 They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction	2 Очам безумних видалось, що вони вмерли, | і їхнє переставлення вважано за нещастя,
3 and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.	3 а відхід їх від нас — за згубу, | вони однак — у мирі.
4 For if before men, indeed, they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality;	4 Бо хоч, в очах людських, їх спіткала кара, | надія їх повна безсмертям;
5 Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself.	5 вони, потерпівши трохи, великих благодійств зазнають, | бо Бог їх досвідчив | і знайшов їх достойними себе.
6 As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.	6 Він випробував їх, як золото в горнилі, | і прийняв їх, як жертву всепалення.
7 In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble;	7 В час їхніх відвідин вони засяють | і, немов іскри по стерні, розбіжаться.
8 They shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the LORD shall be their King forever.	8 Правитимуть народами й володітимуть племенами, | а Господь царюватиме над ними повік.
9 Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with the elect.	9 Ті, що звірились на нього, зрозуміють правду, | і вірні в любові перебуватимуть при ньому, | бо ласка й милосердя — для вибранців його.
10 But the wicked shall receive a punishment to match their thoughts, since they neglected justice and forsook the LORD.	10 А на безбожних, за їхні думки, надійде кара, | за те, що праведником нехтували й від Господа відпали.
11 For he who despises wisdom and instruction is doomed. Vain is their hope, fruitless are their labors, and worthless are their works.	11 Бо той, хто легковажить мудрість і повчання, — нещасний, | і марна його надія, і труди безкорисні, | та й діла без пожитку.
12 Their wives are foolish and their children wicked; accursed is their brood.	12 Жінки в них безглузді, | діти їхні погані, | рід їхній проклятий!
13 Yes, blessed is she who, childless and undefiled, knew not transgression of the marriage bed; she shall bear fruit at the visitation of souls.	13 Щаслива безплідна, яка без плями, | яка не знала гріховного ложа | вона під час відвідин душ одержить плід свій.
14 So also the eunuch whose hand wrought no misdeed, who held no wicked thoughts against the LORD- For he shall be given fidelity's choice reward and a more gratifying heritage in the LORD'S temple.	14 І скопець, що власноручно не вчинив беззаконня | і що не мав лихих думок супроти Господа, | — йому буде дана за вірність особливіша ласка | і миліша частка в Господнім храмі.
15 For the fruit of noble struggles is a glorious one; and unfailing is the root of understanding.	15 Бо плід добрих трудів — славний, | корінь обачности — нетлінний.
16 But the children of adulterers will remain without issue, and the progeny of an unlawful bed will disappear.	16 А діти перелюбів не розвинуться, | плід, що постав з беззаконного ложа, щезне.
17 For should they attain long life, they will be held in no esteem, and dishonored will their old age be at last;	17 Ба й якби довго жили, їх матимуть за ніщоту, | і накінець старість їхня буде безчесна.
18 While should they die abruptly, they have no hope nor comfort in the day of scrutiny;	18 А як помруть передчасно, не матимуть надії, | ані втіхи у день вироку,
19 for dire is the end of the wicked generation.	19 важка бо кончина неправедного роду.
