KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?1 For the leader; according to "The deer of the dawn." A psalm of David.
O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.2 My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why so far from my call for help, from my cries of anguish?
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.3 My God, I call by day, but you do not answer; by night, but I have no relief.
Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.4 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the glory of Israel.
They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.5 In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted and you rescued them.
But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.6 To you they cried out and they escaped; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,7 But I am a worm, hardly human, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.8 All who see me mock me; they curl their lips and jeer; they shake their heads at me:
But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.9 "You relied on the LORD--let him deliver you; if he loves you, let him rescue you."
I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.10 Yet you drew me forth from the womb, made me safe at my mother's breast.
Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.11 Upon you I was thrust from the womb; since birth you are my God.
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.12 Do not stay far from me, for trouble is near, and there is no one to help.
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.13 Many bulls surround me; fierce bulls of Bashan encircle me.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.14 They open their mouths against me, lions that rend and roar.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.15 Like water my life drains away; all my bones grow soft. My heart has become like wax, it melts away within me.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.16 As dry as a potsherd is my throat; my tongue sticks to my palate; you lay me in the dust of death.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.17 Many dogs surround me; a pack of evildoers closes in on me. So wasted are my hands and feet
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.18 that I can count all my bones. They stare at me and gloat;
But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.19 they divide my garments among them; for my clothing they cast lots.
Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.20 But you, LORD, do not stay far off; my strength, come quickly to help me.
Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.21 Deliver me from the sword, my forlorn life from the teeth of the dog.
I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.22 Save me from the lion's mouth, my poor life from the horns of wild bulls.
Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.23 Then I will proclaim your name to the assembly; in the community I will praise you:
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.24 "You who fear the LORD, give praise! All descendants of Jacob, give honor; show reverence, all descendants of Israel!
My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.25 For God has not spurned or disdained the misery of this poor wretch, Did not turn away from me, but heard me when I cried out.
The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.26 I will offer praise in the great assembly; my vows I will fulfill before those who fear him.
All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.27 The poor will eat their fill; those who seek the LORD will offer praise. May your hearts enjoy life forever!"
For the kingdom is the LORD's: and he is the governor among the nations.28 All the ends of the earth will worship and turn to the LORD; All the families of nations will bow low before you.
All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.29 For kingship belongs to the LORD, the ruler over the nations.
A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.30 All who sleep in the earth will bow low before God; All who have gone down into the dust will kneel in homage.
They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.31 And I will live for the LORD; my descendants will serve you.
The generation to come will be told of the Lord, that they may proclaim to a people yet unborn the deliverance you have brought.
