1 Tú, pues, hijo mío, manténte fuerte en la gracia de Cristo Jesús;	1 And as for you, my son, be strengthened by the grace which is in Christ Jesus,
2 y cuanto me has oído en presencia de muchos testigos confíalo a hombres fieles, que sean capaces, a su vez, de instruir a otros.	2 and by the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses. These things encourage faithful men, who shall then be suitable to teach others also.
3 Soporta las fatigas conmigo, como un buen soldado de Cristo Jesús.	3 Labor like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Nadie que se dedica a la milicia se enreda en los negocios de la vida, si quiere complacer al que le ha alistado.	4 No man, acting as a soldier for God, entangles himself in worldly matters, so that he may be pleasing to him for whom he has proven himself.
5 Y lo mismo el atleta; no recibe la corona si no ha competido según el reglamento.	5 Then, too, whoever strives in a competition is not crowned, unless he has competed lawfully.
6 Y el labrador que trabaja es el primero que tiene derecho a percibir los frutos.	6 The farmer who labors ought to be the first to share in the produce.
7 Entiende lo que quiero decirte, pues el Señor te dará la inteligencia de todo.	7 Understand what I am saying. For the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
8 Acuérdate de Jesucristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, descendiente de David, según mi Evangelio;	8 Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the offspring of David, has risen again from the dead, according to my Gospel.
9 por él estoy sufriendo hasta llevar cadenas como un malhechor; pero la Palabra de Dios no está encadenada.	9 I labor in this Gospel, even while chained like an evildoer. But the Word of God is not bound.
10 Por esto todo lo soporto por los elegidos, para que también ellos alcancen la salvación que está en Cristo Jesús con la gloria eterna.	10 I endure all things for this reason: for the sake of the elect, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.
11 Es cierta esta afirmación: Si hemos muerto con él, también viveremos con él;	11 It is a faithful saying: that if we have died with him, we will also live with him.
12 si nos mantenemos firmes, también reinaremos con él; si le negamos, también él nos negará;	12 If we suffer, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.
13 si somos infieles, él permanece fiel, pues no puede negarse a sí mismo.	13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful: he is not able to deny himself.
14 Esto has de enseñar; y conjura en presencia de Dios que se eviten las discusiones de palabras, que no sirven para nada, si no es para perdición de los que las oyen.	14 Insist on these things, testifying before the Lord. Do not be contentious about words, for this is useful for nothing but the subversion of listeners.
15 Procura cuidadosamente presentarte ante Dios como hombre probado, como obrero que no tiene por qué avergonzarse, como fiel distribuidor de la Palabra de la verdad.	15 Be solicitous in the task of presenting yourself before God as a proven and unashamed worker who has handled the Word of Truth correctly.
16 Evita las palabrerías profanas, pues los que a ellas se dan crecerán cada vez más en impiedad,	16 But avoid profane or empty talk. For these things advance one greatly in impiety.
17 y su palabra irá cundiendo como gangrena. Himeneo y Fileto son de éstos:	17 And their word spreads like a cancer: among these are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 se han desviado de la verdad al afirmar que la resurrección ya ha sucedido; y pervierten la fe de algunos.	18 who have fallen away from the truth by saying that the resurrection is already complete. And so they have subverted the faith of certain persons.
19 Sin embargo el sólido fundamento puesto por Dios se mantiene firme, marcado con este sello: El Señor conoce a los que son suyos; y: Apártese de la iniquidad todo el que pronuncia el nombre del Señor.	19 But the firm foundation of God remains standing, having this seal: the Lord knows those who are his own, and all who know the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.
20 En una casa grande no hay solamente utensilios de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro; y unos son para usos nobles y otros para usos viles.	20 But, in a large house, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also those of wood and of clay; and certainly some are held in honor, but others in dishonor.
21 Si, pues, alguno se mantiene limpio de estas faltas, será un utensilio para uso noble, santificado y útil para su Dueño, dispuesto para toda obra buena.	21 If anyone, then, will have cleansed himself from these things, he shall be a vessel held in honor, sanctified and useful to the Lord, prepared for every good work.
22 Huye de las pasiones juveniles. Vete al alcance de la justicia, de la fe, de la caridad, de la paz, en unión de los que invocan al Señor con corazón puro.	22 So then, flee from the desires of your youth, yet truly, pursue justice, faith, hope, charity, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.
23 Evita las discusiones necias y estúpidas; tú sabes bien que engrendran altercados.	23 But avoid foolish and undisciplined questions, for you know that these produce strife.
24 Y a un siervo del Señor no le conviene altercar, sino ser amable, con todos, pronto a enseñar, sufrido,	24 For the servant of the Lord must not be contentious, but instead he must be meek toward everyone, teachable, patient,
25 y que corrija con mansedumbre a los adversarios, por si Dios les otorga la conversión que les haga conocer plenamente la verdad,	25 correcting with self-restraint those who resist the truth. For at any time God may give them repentance, so as to recognize the truth,
26 y volver al buen sentido, librándose de los lazos del Diablo que los tiene cautivos, rendidos a su voluntad.	26 and then they may recover from the snares of the devil, by whom they are held captive at his will.
