1 Yo también soy un hombre mortal como todos, un descendiente del primero que fue formado de la tierra. En el seno de una madre fui hecho carne;	1 I too am a mortal man, the same as all the rest, and a descendant of the first man formed on earth. And in my mother's womb I was molded into flesh
2 durante diez meses fui modelado en su sangre, de una semilla de hombre y del placer que acompaña al sueño.	2 in a ten-months' period-body and blood, from the seed of man, and the pleasure that accompanies marriage.
3 Yo también, una vez nacido, aspiré el aire común, caí en la tierra que a todos recibe por igual y mi primera voz fue la de todos: lloré.	3 And I too, when born, inhaled the common air, and fell upon the kindred earth; wailing, I uttered that first sound common to all.
4 Me crié entre pañales y cuidados.	4 In swaddling clothes and with constant care I was nurtured.
5 Pues no hay rey que haya tenido otro comienzo de su existencia;	5 For no king has any different origin or birth,
6 una es la entrada en la vida para todos y una misma la salida.	6 but one is the entry into life for all; and in one same way they leave it.
7 Por eso pedí y se me concedió la prudencia; supliqué y me vino el espíritu de Sabiduría.	7 Therefore I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
8 Y la preferí a cetros y tronos y en nada tuve a la riqueza en comparación de ella.	8 I preferred her to scepter and throne, And deemed riches nothing in comparison with her,
9 Ni a la piedra más preciosa la equiparé, porque todo el oro a su lado es un puñado de arena y barro parece la plata en su presencia.	9 nor did I liken any priceless gem to her; Because all gold, in view of her, is a little sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire.
10 La amé más que la salud y la hermosura y preferí tenerla a ella más que a la luz, porque la claridad que de ella nace no conoce noche.	10 Beyond health and comeliness I loved her, And I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep.
11 Con ella me vinieron a la vez todos los bienes, y riquezas incalculables en sus manos.	11 Yet all good things together came to me in her company, and countless riches at her hands;
12 Y yo me regocijé con todos estos bienes porque la Sabiduría los trae, aunque ignoraba que ella fuese su madre.	12 And I rejoiced in them all, because Wisdom is their leader, though I had not known that she is the mother of these.
13 Con sencillez la aprendí y sin envidia la comunico; no me guardo ocultas sus riquezas	13 Simply I learned about her, and ungrudgingly do I share- her riches I do not hide away;
14 porque es para los hombres un tesoro inagotable y los que lo adquieren se granjean la amistad de Dios recomendados por los dones que les trae la instrucción.	14 For to men she is an unfailing treasure; those who gain this treasure win the friendship of God, to whom the gifts they have from discipline commend them.
15 Concédame Dios hablar según él quiere y concebir pensamientos dignos de sus dones, porque él es quien guía a la Sabiduría y quien dirige a los sabios;	15 Now God grant I speak suitably and value these endowments at their worth: For he is the guide of Wisdom and the director of the wise.
16 que nosotros y nuestras palabras en sus manos estamos con toda nuestra prudencia y destreza en el obrar.	16 For both we and our words are in his hand, as well as all prudence and knowledge of crafts.
17 Fue él quien me concedió un conocimiento verdadero de los seres, para conocer la estructura del mundo y la actividad de los elementos,	17 For he gave me sound knowledge of existing things, that I might know the organization of the universe and the force of its elements,
18 el principio, el fin y el medio de los tiempos, los cambios de los solsticios y la sucesión de las estaciones,	18 The beginning and the end and the midpoint of times, the changes in the sun's course and the variations of the seasons.
19 los ciclos del año y la posición de las estrellas,	19 Cycles of years, positions of the stars,
20 la naturaleza de los animales y los instintos de las fieras, el poder de los espíritus y los pensamientos de los hombres, las variedades de las plantas y las virtudes de las raíces.	20 natures of animals, tempers of beasts, Powers of the winds and thoughts of men, uses of plants and virtues of roots-
21 Cuanto está oculto y cuanto se ve, todo lo conocí, porque el artífice de todo, la Sabiduría, me lo enseñó.	21 Such things as are hidden I learned and such as are plain;
22 Pues hay en ella un espíritu inteligente, santo, único, múltiple, sutil, ágil, perspicaz, inmaculado, claro, impasible, amante del bien, agudo,	22 for Wisdom, the artificer of all, taught me. For in her is a spirit intelligent, holy, unique, Manifold, subtle, agile, clear, unstained, certain, Not baneful, loving the good, keen, unhampered, beneficent,
23 incoercible, bienhechor, amigo del hombre, firme, seguro, sereno, que todo lo puede, todo lo observa, penetra todos los espíritus, los inteligentes, los puros, los más sutiles.	23 kindly, Firm, secure, tranquil, all-powerful, all-seeing, And pervading all spirits, though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle.
24 Porque a todo movimiento supera en movilidad la Sabiduría, todo lo atraviesa y penetra en virtud de su pureza.	24 For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion, and she penetrates and pervades all things by reason of her purity.
25 Es un hálito del poder de Dios, una emanación pura de la gloria del Omnipotente, por lo que nada manchado llega a alcanzarla.	25 For she is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nought that is sullied enters into her.
26 Es un reflejo de la luz eterna, un espejo sin mancha de la actividad de Dios, una imagen de su bondad.	26 For she is the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of his goodness.
27 Aun siendo sola, lo puede todo; sin salir de sí misma, renueva el universo; en todas las edades, entrando en las almas santas, forma en ellas amigos de Dios y profetas,	27 And she, who is one, can do all things, and renews everything while herself perduring; And passing into holy souls from age to age, she produces friends of God and prophets.
28 porque Dios no ama sino a quien vive con la Sabiduría.	28 For there is nought God loves, be it not one who dwells with Wisdom.
29 Es ella, en efecto, más bella que el sol, supera a todas las constelaciones; comparada con la luz, sale vencedora,	29 For she is fairer than the sun and surpasses every constellation of the stars. Compared to light, she takes precedence;
30 porque a la luz sucede la noche, pero contra la Sabiduría no prevalece la maldad.	30 for that, indeed, night supplants, but wickedness prevails not over Wisdom.
