Job 36

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Prosiguió Elihú y dijo:	1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:
2 Espera un poco, y yo te instruiré, pues todavía hay palabras en favor de Dios.	2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.
3 Voy a llevar muy lejos mi saber, y daré la razón a mi Hacedor.	3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.
4 En verdad, no son mentira mis palabras, un maestro en saber está contigo.	4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.
5 Dios no rechaza al hombre íntegro,	5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure
6 ni deja vivir al malvado en plena fuerza. Hace justicia a los pobres,	6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;
7 y no quita al justo su derecho. El puso a los reyes en el trono, para siempre los asienta, mas se engríen,	7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,
8 y él los amarra con cadenas, y quedan presos en los lazos de la angustia.	8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.
9 Entonces les pone su obra al descubierto y sus culpas nacidas del orgullo.	9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.
10 A sus oídos pronuncia una advertencia, y manda que se vuelvan de la iniquidad.	10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.
11 Si escuchan y son dóciles, acaban sus días en ventura y en delicias sus años.	11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.
12 Si no escuchan, pasan el Canal, y expiran por falta de cordura.	12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.
13 Y los obstinados que imponen la cólera y no piden auxilio cuando él los encadena,	13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,
14 mueren en plena juventud, y su vida en la edad juvenil.	14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.
15 El salva al pobre por su misma pobreza, por la miseria el oído le abre.	15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.
16 También a ti te arrancará de las fauces de la angustia. Antes gozabas de abundancia sin límites, la grasa desbordaba de tu mesa.	16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,
17 Mas no hacías justicia de los malos, defraudabas el derecho del huérfano.	17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.
18 Procura, pues, que no te seduzca la abundancia, ni el copioso soborno te extravíe.	18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.
19 Haz comparecer al rico como al que nada tiene, al débil como al poderoso.	19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.
20 No aplastes a aquellos que te son extraños, para encumbrar en su puesto a tus parientes.	20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.
21 Guárdate de inclinarte hacia la iniquidad, que por eso te ha probado la aflicción.	21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.
22 Mira, Dios es sublime por su fuerza, ¿quién es maestro como él?	22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?
23 ¿Quién le señaló el camino a seguir? ¿quién le diría: «Has hecho mal»?	23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?
24 Acuérdate más bien de ensalzar su obra, que han cantado los hombres.	24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.
25 Todo hombre la contempla, el hombre la mira desde lejos.	25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.
26 Sí, Dios es grande y no le comprendemos, el número de sus años es incalculable.	26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.
27 El atrae las gotas de agua, pulveriza la lluvia en su vapor,	27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.
28 que luego derraman las nubes, la destilan sobre la turba humana.	28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.
29 ¿Quién además comprenderá el despliegue de la nube, los fragores de su tienda?	29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?
30 Ved que despliega su niebla por encima cubre las cimas de los montes.	30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.
31 Pues por ellas sustenta él a los pueblos, les da alimento en abundancia.	31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.
32 En sus manos el rayo levanta y le ordena que alcance su destino.	32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.
33 Su trueno le anuncia, la ira se inflama contra la iniquidad.	33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.
