1 Job prit la parole et dit:	1 And Job answered and said,
2 Vraiment vous êtes la voix du peuple, avec vous mourra la sagesse!	2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
3 Moi aussi je raisonne, tout comme vous: toutes ces choses ne sont neuves pour personne.	3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
4 Mais même mon ami ne fait que se moquer, lorsque je crie vers Dieu et demande une réponse. Un homme droit, parfait, on s’en moque:	4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
5 “Tant pis pour les malchanceux!”, dit celui qui réussit, “donne un coup à celui qui chancelle”.	5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
6 Mais vois que les pillards sont tranquilles chez eux; ils peuvent provoquer Dieu en toute sécurité, ils l’ont mis dans leur poche.	6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
7 Veux-tu interroger les bêtes? elles t’instruiront; demande aux oiseaux du ciel, ils te le diront.	7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
8 Ceux qui rampent sur le sol te feront la leçon, et les poissons des mers t’en donneront les détails.	8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
9 Qui ne sait parmi eux que tout est l’œuvre de la main du Seigneur?	9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
10 Il dispose de l’âme de tout être vivant et du souffle de vie des humains.	10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
11 L’oreille, bien sûr, est faite pour comprendre, et le palais pour apprécier la nourriture;	11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?
12 ce sont les anciens qui possèdent la sagesse, une longue vie permet de discerner…	12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
13 Mais à Dieu appartiennent sagesse et vaillance, le discernement avec l’intelligence.	13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
14 S’il détruit, nul ne va reconstruire; celui qu’il emprisonne ne sera pas délivré.	14 Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
15 S’il retient les eaux, c’est la sécheresse, s’il les relâche, la terre est inondée.	15 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
16 Il possède la force et l’art de décider: il sait qui trompera et qui sera trompé.	16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
17 Il fait aller pieds nus les grands seigneurs; aux gouvernants, il leur fait perdre la tête.	17 He leadeth counsellers away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
18 Il déboucle le ceinturon des rois, et leur fixe sur les hanches le pagne du captif.	18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
19 Il fait aller pieds nus les prêtres, et il renverse les puissants.	19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
20 Il laisse sans réponse les conseillers sûrs, il prive les anciens de leur bon sens.	20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.
21 Il fait que les nobles soient méprisés; aux solides, il leur déboucle le ceinturon.	21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.
22 Il sort de l’obscurité la chose qui fut enfouie, il jette à la lumière ce qui était dans l’ombre.	22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
23 Il donne aux nations la grandeur, et puis la ruine, il fait s’étendre un peuple, ensuite il le supprime.	23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.
24 Il fait perdre le sens aux chefs du pays: les voilà perdus dans un chaos sans issue.	24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
25 Ils tâtonnent dans le noir: aucune lumière! ils titubent comme s’ils avaient bu.	25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
