Jeremiah 34

1 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his whole army,with all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion and al the peoples, were waging war on Jerusalem and alits towns,	1 Слово, що надійшло від Господа до Єремії тоді, як Навуходоносор, цар вавилонський, і все його військо й усі царства землі, піддані під його руку, ще й усі народи воювали проти Єрусалиму і збірноти його міст:
2 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tel him, Yahweh saysthis: I am going to hand this city over to the power of the king of Babylon, and he wil burn it down.	2 «Іди й промов до Седекії, царя юдейського, і скажи йому ось що: Так говорить Господь: Ось я віддам це місто у руки цареві вавилонському, і він спалить його.
3 And you yourself wil not escape his clutches but wil certainly be captured and handed over to him.You will see the king of Babylon face to face and speak to him personal y. Then you wil go to Babylon.	3 І ти сам не уникнеш його рук, і тебе таки впіймають, і віддадуть йому в руки, й очі твої дивитимуться в очі цареві вавилонському, і говоритиме з тобою устами до уст, і підеш у Вавилон.
4 Even so, listen to the word of Yahweh, Zedekiah king of Judah! This is what Yahweh says about you:You will not die by the sword;	4 Тож вислухай слово Господнє, Седекіє, царю юдейський! Так говорить про тебе Господь: Ти не вмреш від меча!
5 you will die in peace. And as spices were burnt for your ancestors, the kings who in times pastpreceded you, so spices wil be burnt for you and a dirge sung for you: Alas for his highness! I have spoken,Yahweh declares." '	5 Ти помреш у мирі; і як по твоїх предках, перших царях, палено пахощі, так і по тобі палитимуть і голоситимуть: Ой, володарю! — бо я тобі це кажу», — слово Господнє.
6 The prophet Jeremiah repeated al these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,	6 І переповів Єремія усі ці слова Седекії, юдейському цареві, в Єрусалимі.
7 while the army of the king of Babylon was attacking Jerusalem and al such towns of Judah as still heldout, namely Lachish and Azekah, these being the only fortified towns of Judah remaining.	7 Тим часом військо царя вавилонського воювало проти Єрусалиму, проти інших міст юдейських, що ще цілі залишились і проти Лахішу та Азеки; одні бо ці й зосталися з міст юдейських — міста-твердині.
8 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the peoplein Jerusalem to issue a proclamation freeing their slaves:	8 Слово, що надійшло від Господа до Єремії після того, як цар Седекія вчинив умову з усім народом у Єрусалимі, щоб оповістити звільнення.
9 each man was to free his Hebrew slaves, men and women, no one was any longer to keep a brotherJudaean in slavery.	9 щоб кожен пустив на волю раба свого єврея й свою рабиню єврейку, щоб ніхто вже не тримав у рабстві юдея, брата свого.
10 Al the chief men and all the people who had entered into the covenant had agreed that everyoneshould free his slaves, men or women, and no longer keep them as slaves: they had agreed on this and setthem free.	10 І згодились усі князі й усі люди, що уклали умову, аби пустити на волю своїх рабів і своїх рабинь, аби ніхто вже не тримав їх у рабстві; і пристали на це й повипускали.
11 Afterwards, however, they changed their minds, recovered the slaves, men and women, whom theyhad set free, and reduced them to slavery again.	11 Опісля ж спохопились і запопалися брати назад рабів і рабинь, що їх були пустили на волю, і поробили їх знову невольниками та невольницями.
12 The word of Yahweh came then to Jeremiah as follows,	12 І надійшло таке слово Господнє до Єремії:
13 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I made a covenant with your ancestors when I brought them out ofEgypt, out of the house of slavery; it said:	13 «Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Я заключив був союз із вашими батьками, як вивів їх з Єгипетської землі, з дому неволі, і установив:
14 At the end of seven years each one of you is to free his brother Hebrew who has sold himself to you:he may be your slave for six years, then you must send him away free. But your ancestors did not listen to meand would not pay attention.	14 Як упливе 7 років, кожний з вас відпустить на волю свого брата єврея, що тобі продано. Шість літ нехай він тобі служить, а потім пусти його від себе на волю. Але батьки ваші не слухали мене й не прихилили свого вуха.
15 Now, today you repented and did what pleases me by proclaiming freedom for your neighbour; youmade a covenant before me in the Temple that bears my name.	15 Нині ви навернулись і були вчинили праведне перед моїми очима, оповістивши кожен волю ближньому своєму; ви заключили союз передо мною в домі, що носить моє ім’я.
16 And then you changed your minds and, profaning my name, each of you has recovered his slaves,men and women, whom you had sent away free to live their own lives, and has forced them to become yourslaves again."	16 Опісля ж передумали й збезчестили моє ім’я, забравши назад кожен свого раба і свою рабиню, що пустили були на волю, на їхнє бажання, і зробили їх знову вашими рабами й вашими рабинями.
17 'So Yahweh says this: "You have disobeyed me, by failing to grant freedom to brother and neighbour.Very well, I in my turn, Yahweh declares, shal leave sword, famine and plague free to deal with you and I shalmake you an object of horror to al the kingdoms of the earth.	17 Тим то так говорить Господь: Ви не послухали мене, як мовилося про те, щоб кожен оповістив волю братові своєму й ближньому своєму; за те ж і я, — слово Господнє, — звільняю вас і на меч вас віддаю, на чуму, на голод, а й зроблю вас страховиськом по всіх царствах на землі.
18 As for the people who have broken my covenant, who have not observed the terms of the covenantwhich they made before me, I shall treat them like the calf that people cut in two to pass between its pieces.	18 Тих же, що порушили мою умову та не додержали слів угоди, яку заключили були передо мною, я вчиню, як того тельця, що вони його розтяли надвоє, щоб пройти між його половинами.
19 The chief men of Judah and Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and al the country people who havepassed between the pieces of the calf,	19 Князів юдейських та князів єрусалимських, скопців й священиків та й увесь люд країни, що проходили між половинами тельця,
20 I shal hand over to their enemies and those determined to kil them, and their corpses wil be food forthe birds of the sky and the animals of earth.	20 я видам у руки їхнім ворогам і в руки тим, що чигають на їхнє життя; трупи їхні будуть поживою птаству небесному й дикому звірені.
21 As for Zedekiah king of Judah and his chief men, I shall hand them to their enemies, to thosedetermined to kil them, and to the army of the king of Babylon which has just withdrawn.	21 Та й Седекію, царя юдейського, і князів його видам у руки ворогам їхнім і в руки тим, що чигають на їхнє життя, і на поталу військові царя вавилонського, що тепер відступило від вас.
22 Listen, I shall give the order, Yahweh declares, and bring them back to this city to attack it andcapture it and burn it down. And I shal make an uninhabited waste of the towns of Judah." '	22 Ось я повелю, — слово Господнє, — і заверну їх до цього міста, і вони нападуть на нього й здобудуть його ще й спалять. Міста юдейські оберну я на безлюдну пустиню.»
