1 Samuel 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 One day, Jonathan son of Saul said to his armour-bearer, 'Come on, let us go across to the Philistineoutpost over on the other side.' But he did not inform his father.	1 Un giorno Giònata, figlio di Saul, disse al suo scudiero: "Su vieni, portiamoci fino all'appostamento dei Filistei che sta qui di fronte". Ma non disse nulla a suo padre.
2 Saul was on the outskirts of Geba, sitting under the pomegranate tree that stands near the threshing-floor; the force with him numbered about six hundred men.	2 Saul se ne stava al limitare di Gàbaa sotto il melograno che si trova in Migròn; la sua gente era di circa seicento uomini.
3 Ahijah son of Ahitub, brother of Ichabod, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the priest of Yahweh at Shiloh,was carrying the ephod. The force did not know that Jonathan had left.	3 Achià figlio di Achitùb, fratello di Icabòd, figlio di Pìncas, figlio di Eli, sacerdote del Signore in Silo, portava l''efod' e il popolo non sapeva che Giònata era andato.
4 In the pass that Jonathan was trying to cross to reach the Philistine outpost, there is a rocky spur onone side and a rocky spur on the other; one is cal ed Bozez, the other Seneh.	4 Tra i varchi per i quali Giònata cercava di passare, puntando sull'appostamento dei Filistei, vi era una sporgenza rocciosa da una parte e una sporgenza rocciosa dall'altra parte: una si chiamava Bòzez, l'altra Sène.
5 The first spur stands to the north facing Michmash, the other to the south facing Geba.	5 Una delle rocce sporgenti era di fronte a Micmas a settentrione, l'altra era di fronte a Gàbaa a meridione.
6 Jonathan said to his armour-bearer, 'Come on, let us go across to these uncircumcised people'soutpost; perhaps Yahweh wil do something for us, for Yahweh is free to grant deliverance through a few men,just as much as through many.'	6 Giònata disse allo scudiero: "Su, vieni, passiamo all'appostamento di questi non circoncisi; forse il Signore ci aiuterà, perché non è difficile per il Signore salvare con molti o con pochi".
7 His armour-bearer replied, 'Do exactly as you think. I am with you; our hearts are as one.'	7 Lo scudiero gli rispose: "Fa' quanto hai in animo. Avvìati e va'! Eccomi con te: come il tuo cuore, così è il mio".
8 Jonathan then said, 'Look, we will go across to these people and let ourselves be seen.	8 Allora Giònata disse: "Ecco, noi passeremo verso questi uomini e ci mostreremo loro.
9 If they say, "Do not move until we come to you," we shal stay where we are and not go up to them.	9 Se ci diranno: Fermatevi finché veniamo a raggiungervi, restiamo in basso e non saliamo da loro.
10 But if they say, "Come up to us," we shal go up, for that wil be the sign for us that Yahweh has given them into our power.'	10 Se invece ci diranno: Venite su da noi!, saliamo, perché il Signore ce li ha messi nelle mani e questo sarà per noi il segno".
11 When the two of them let themselves be seen by the Philistine outpost, the Philistines said, 'Look,the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have been hiding.'	11 Quindi i due si lasciarono scorgere dall'appostamento filisteo e i Filistei dissero: "Ecco gli Ebrei che escono dalle caverne dove si erano nascosti".
12 The men of the outpost then hailed Jonathan and his armour-bearer. 'Come up to us,' they said, 'wehave something to tel you.' Jonathan then said to his armour-bearer, 'Fol ow me up; Yahweh has given theminto the power of Israel.'	12 Poi gli uomini della guarnigione dissero a Giònata e al suo scudiero: "Salite da noi, che abbiamo qualche cosa da dirvi!". Giònata allora disse al suo scudiero: "Sali dopo di me, perché il Signore li ha messi nelle mani di Israele".
13 Jonathan clambered up on hands and feet, with his armour-bearer behind him; the Philistines fel atJonathan's onslaught, and his armour-bearer, coming behind, finished them off.	13 Giònata saliva aiutandosi con le mani e con i piedi e lo scudiero lo seguiva; quelli cadevano davanti a Giònata e, dietro, lo scudiero li finiva.
14 This first kil ing made by Jonathan and his armour-bearer accounted for about twenty men . . .	14 Questa fu la prima strage nella quale Giònata e il suo scudiero colpirono una ventina di uomini, entro quasi metà di un campo arabile.
15 There was panic in the camp, in the field and throughout the army; outpost and raiding company toowere panic-stricken; the earth quaked: it was a panic from Yahweh.	15 Si sparse così il terrore nell'accampamento, nella regione e in tutto il popolo. Anche la guarnigione e i suoi uomini d'assalto furono atterriti e la terra tremò e ci fu un terrore divino.
16 Saul's look-out men in Geba of Benjamin could see the camp scattering in all directions.	16 Le vedette di Saul che stavano in Gàbaa di Beniamino guardarono e videro la moltitudine che fuggiva qua e là.
17 Saul then said to the force that was with him, 'Cal the roll and see who has left us.' So they cal edthe rol , and Jonathan and his armour-bearer were missing.	17 Allora Saul ordinò alla gente che era con lui: "Su, cercate e indagate chi sia partito da noi". Cercarono ed ecco non c'erano né Giònata né il suo scudiero.
18 Saul then said to Ahijah, 'Bring the ephod,' since he was the man who carried the ephod in Israel.	18 Saul disse ad Achia: "Avvicina l''efod'!" - egli infatti allora portava l''efod' davanti agli Israeliti -.
19 But while Saul was speaking to the priest, the turmoil in the Philistine camp grew worse and worse;and Saul said to the priest, 'Withdraw your hand.'	19 Mentre Saul parlava al sacerdote, il tumulto che era sorto nel campo filisteo andava propagandosi e crescendo. Saul disse al sacerdote: "Ritira la mano".
20 Saul and the whole force with him then formed up and advanced to where the fighting was going on:and there they al were, drawing their swords on one another in wild confusion.	20 A loro volta Saul e la gente che era con lui alzarono grida e mossero all'attacco, ma ecco trovarono che la spada dell'uno si rivolgeva contro l'altro in una confusione molto grande.
21 Those Hebrews who had earlier taken service with the Philistines and had accompanied them intocamp, now defected to the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.	21 Anche quegli Ebrei che erano con i Filistei da qualche tempo e che erano saliti con loro all'accampamento, si voltarono, per mettersi con Israele che era là con Saul e Giònata.
22 Similarly, all those Israelites who had been hiding in the highlands of Ephraim, hearing that thePhilistines were on the run, chased after them and joined in the fight.	22 Inoltre anche tutti gli Israeliti che si erano nascosti sulle montagne di Efraim, quando seppero che i Filistei erano in fuga, si unirono a inseguirli e batterli.
23 That day Yahweh gave Israel the victory. The fighting reached the other side of Beth-Horon.	23 Così il Signore in quel giorno salvò Israele e la battaglia si estese fino a Bet-Aven.
24 As the men of Israel were hard pressed that day, Saul pronounced this imprecation over the people,'A curse on anyone who eats food before evening, before I have taken revenge on my enemies!' So none of thepeople so much as tasted food.	24 Gli Israeliti erano sfiniti in quel giorno e Saul impose questo giuramento a tutto il popolo: "Maledetto chiunque gusterà cibo prima di sera, prima che io mi sia vendicato dei miei nemici". E nessuno del popolo gustò cibo.
25 Now there was a honeycomb out in the open.	25 Tutta la gente passò per una selva dove c'erano favi di miele sul suolo.
26 The people came to the honeycomb, the honey was dripping out, but no one put a hand to his mouth,the people being in awe of the oath.	26 Il popolo passò per la selva ed ecco si vedeva colare il miele, ma nessuno stese la mano e la portò alla bocca, perché il popolo temeva il giuramento.
27 Jonathan, however, not having heard his father bind the people with the oath, reached with the endof the stick which he was carrying, thrust it into the honeycomb and put it to his mouth; whereupon his eyes grewbrighter.	27 Ma Giònata non aveva saputo che suo padre aveva fatto giurare il popolo, quindi allungò la punta del bastone che teneva in mano e la intinse nel favo di miele, poi riportò la mano alla bocca e i suoi occhi si rischiararono.
28 One of the people then spoke up. 'Your father', he said, 'has bound the people with this oath: "Acurse on anyone who eats anything today." '	28 Uno del gruppo s'affrettò a dire: "Tuo padre ha fatto fare questo solenne giuramento al popolo: Maledetto chiunque toccherà cibo quest'oggi!, sebbene il popolo fosse sfinito".
29 'My father has brought trouble on the country,' Jonathan replied. 'See how much brighter my eyes arefor having eaten this mouthful of honey.	29 Rispose Giònata: "Mio padre vuol rovinare il paese! Guardate come si sono rischiarati i miei occhi, perché ho gustato un poco di questo miele.
30 By the same token, if the people had been allowed to eat some of the booty which they had capturedfrom the enemy today, would not the defeat of the Philistines have been all the greater?'	30 Dunque se il popolo avesse mangiato oggi qualche cosa dei viveri presi ai nemici, quanto maggiore sarebbe stata ora la rotta dei Filistei!".
31 That day the Philistines were beaten from Michmash all the way to Aijalon, until the people wereutterly exhausted.	31 In quel giorno percossero i Filistei da Micmas fino ad Aialon e il popolo era sfinito.
32 The people flung themselves on the booty and, taking sheep, bul ocks and calves, slaughtered themthere on the ground and ate them with the blood.	32 Quelli del popolo si gettarono sulla preda e presero pecore, buoi e vitelli e li macellarono e li mangiarono con il sangue.
33 Saul was informed, 'The people are sinning against Yahweh by eating with the blood!' He said, 'Youhave not kept faith! Roll me a large stone here!'	33 La cosa fu annunziata a Saul: "Ecco il popolo pecca contro il Signore, mangiando con il sangue". Rispose: "Avete prevaricato! Rotolate subito qui una grande pietra".
34 Saul then said, 'Scatter among the people and say, "Everyone is to bring his bul ock or his sheep tome here." You wil slaughter them here and eat, and not sin against Yahweh by eating with the blood.' Eachindividual brought what he happened to have that night, and they al slaughtered in the same place.	34 Allora Saul soggiunse: "Passate tra il popolo e dite a tutti: Ognuno conduca qua il suo bue e il suo montone e li macelli su questa pietra, poi mangiatene; così non peccherete contro il Signore, mangiando le carni con il sangue". In quella notte ogni uomo del popolo condusse a mano ciò che aveva e là lo macellò.
35 Saul built an altar to Yahweh; it was the first altar he had built to Yahweh.	35 Saul innalzò un altare al Signore. Fu questo il primo altare che egli edificò al Signore.
36 Saul said, 'Let us go down under cover of dark and plunder the Philistines until dawn; we shal notleave one of them alive.' 'Do whatever you think right,' they replied. But the priest said, 'Let us approach Godhere.'	36 Quindi Saul disse: "Scendiamo dietro i Filistei questa notte stessa e deprediamoli fino al mattino e non lasciamo scampare uno solo di loro". Gli risposero: "Fa' quanto ti sembra bene". Ma il sacerdote disse: "Accostiamoci qui a Dio".
37 Saul consulted God, 'Shall I go down and pursue the Philistines? Will you hand them over to Israel?'But he gave him no reply that day.	37 Saul dunque interrogò Dio: "Devo scendere dietro i Filistei? Li consegnerai in mano di Israele?". Ma quel giorno non gli rispose.
38 Saul then said, 'Come forward, al you leaders of the people; consider carefully where today's sinmay lie;	38 Allora Saul disse: "Accostatevi qui voi tutti capi del popolo. Cercate ed esaminate da chi sia stato commesso oggi il peccato,
39 for as Yahweh lives who gives victory to Israel, even if the sin lies with Jonathan my son, he shal beput to death.' But not one out of al the people answered.	39 perché per la vita del Signore salvatore d'Israele certamente costui morirà, anche se si tratta di Giònata mio figlio". Ma nessuno del popolo gli rispose.
40 He then said to al Israel, 'Stand on one side, and I and Jonathan my son wil stand on the other.' Andthe people replied to Saul, 'Do as you think right.'	40 Perciò disse a tutto Israele: "Voi state da una parte: io e mio figlio Giònata staremo dall'altra". Il popolo rispose a Saul: "Fa' quanto ti sembra bene".
41 Saul then said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, why did you not answer your servant today? Yahweh, God ofIsrael, if the fault lies with me or with my son Jonathan, give urim: if the fault lies with your people Israel, givethummim.' Jonathan and Saul were indicated and the people went free.	41 Saul parlò al Signore: "Dio d'Israele, fa' conoscere l'innocente". Furono designati Giònata e Saul e il popolo restò libero.
42 Saul said, 'Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan,' and Jonathan was indicated.	42 Saul soggiunse: "Tirate a sorte tra me e mio figlio Giònata". Fu sorteggiato Giònata.
43 'I only tasted a mouthful of honey off the end of the stick which I was carrying. But I am ready to die.'	43 Saul disse a Giònata: "Narrami quello che hai fatto". Giònata raccontò: "Realmente ho assaggiato un po' di miele con la punta del bastone che avevo in mano. Ecco, morirò".
44 Saul said, 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse ones too, if you do not die, Jonathan!'	44 Saul disse: "Faccia Dio a me questo e anche di peggio, se non andrai a morte, Giònata!".
45 But the people said to Saul, 'Must Jonathan die after winning this great victory for Israel? We wilnever al ow that! As Yahweh lives, not one hair of his head shal fal to the ground, for his deeds today havebeen done with the help of God.' And so the people ransomed Jonathan and he was not put to death.	45 Ma il popolo disse a Saul: "Dovrà forse morire Giònata che ha ottenuto questa grande vittoria in Israele? Non sia mai! Per la vita del Signore, non cadrà a terra un capello del suo capo, perché in questo giorno egli ha agito con Dio". Così il popolo salvò Giònata che non fu messo a morte.
46 Saul decided not to pursue the Philistines, and the Philistines retired to their own territory.	46 Saul cessò dall'inseguire i Filistei e questi raggiunsero il loro paese.
47 Saul consolidated his rule over Israel and made war on al his enemies on al fronts: on Moab, theAmmonites, Edom, the king of Zobah and the Philistines; whichever way he turned, he was victorious.	47 Saul si assicurò il regno su Israele e mosse contro tutti i nemici all'intorno: contro Moab e gli Ammoniti, contro Edom e i re di Zoba e i Filistei e dovunque si volgeva aveva successo.
48 He did great deeds of valour; he defeated the Amalekites and delivered Israel from those who usedto pil age him.	48 Compì imprese brillanti, batté gli Amaleciti e liberò Israele dalle mani degli oppressori.
49 Saul's sons were: Jonathan, Ishvi and Malchishua. The names of his two daughters were: the elder,Merab, and the younger, Michal.	49 Figli di Saul furono Giònata, Isbàal e Malkisùa; le sue due figlie si chiamavano Merab la maggiore e Mikal la più piccola.
50 The name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of his army commander wasAbner son of Ner, Saul's uncle.	50 La moglie di Saul si chiamava Achinòam, figlia di Achimàaz. Il capo delle sue milizie si chiamava Abner figlio di Ner, zio di Saul.
51 Kish father of Saul, and Ner father of Abner were the sons of Abiel.	51 Kis padre di Saul e Ner padre di Abner erano figli di Abièl.
52 There was fierce warfare with the Philistines throughout Saul's life. Any strong or valiant man whocaught Saul's eye, he recruited into his service.	52 Durante tutto il tempo di Saul vi fu guerra aperta con i Filistei; se Saul scorgeva un uomo valente o un giovane coraggioso, lo prendeva al suo seguito.
