NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Take me as your pattern, just as I take Christ for mine.1 Fatevi miei imitatori, come io lo sono di Cristo.
I congratulate you for remembering me so consistently and for maintaining the traditions exactly as Ipassed them on to you.2 Vi lodo poi perché in ogni cosa vi ricordate di me e conservate le tradizioni così come ve le ho trasmesse.
But I should like you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man,and the head of Christ is God.3 Voglio però che sappiate che di ogni uomo il capo è Cristo, e capo della donna è l'uomo, e capo di Cristo è Dio.
For any man to pray or to prophesy with his head covered shows disrespect for his head.4 Ogni uomo che prega o profetizza con il capo coperto, manca di riguardo al proprio capo.
And for a woman to pray or prophesy with her head uncovered shows disrespect for her head; it isexactly the same as if she had her hair shaved off.5 Ma ogni donna che prega o profetizza senza velo sul capo, manca di riguardo al proprio capo, poiché è lo stesso che se fosse rasata.
Indeed, if a woman does go without a veil, she should have her hair cut off too; but if it is a shamefulthing for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, then she should wear a veil.6 Se dunque una donna non vuol mettersi il velo, si tagli anche i capelli! Ma se è vergogna per una donna tagliarsi i capelli o radersi, allora si copra.
But for a man it is not right to have his head covered, since he is the image of God and reflects God'sglory; but woman is the reflection of man's glory.7 L'uomo non deve coprirsi il capo, poiché egli è immagine e gloria di Dio; la donna invece è gloria dell'uomo.
For man did not come from woman; no, woman came from man;8 E infatti non l'uomo deriva dalla donna, ma la donna dall'uomo;
nor was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man:9 né l'uomo fu creato per la donna, ma la donna per l'uomo.
and this is why it is right for a woman to wear on her head a sign of the authority over her, becauseof the angels.10 Per questo la donna deve portare sul capo un segno della sua dipendenza a motivo degli angeli.
However, in the Lord, though woman is nothing without man, man is nothing without woman;11 Tuttavia, nel Signore, né la donna è senza l'uomo, né l'uomo è senza la donna;
and though woman came from man, so does every man come from a woman, and everything comesfrom God.12 come infatti la donna deriva dall'uomo, così l'uomo ha vita dalla donna; tutto poi proviene da Dio.
Decide for yourselves: does it seem fitting that a woman should pray to God without a veil?13 Giudicate voi stessi: è conveniente che una donna faccia preghiera a Dio col capo scoperto?
Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,14 Non è forse la natura stessa a insegnarci che è indecoroso per l'uomo lasciarsi crescere i capelli,
but when a woman has long hair, it is her glory? After all, her hair was given to her to be a covering.15 mentre è una gloria per la donna lasciarseli crescere? La chioma le è stata data a guisa di velo.
If anyone wants to be contentious, I say that we have no such custom, nor do any of the churches ofGod.16 Se poi qualcuno ha il gusto della contestazione, noi non abbiamo questa consuetudine e neanche le Chiese di Dio.

Now that I am on the subject of instructions, I cannot congratulate you on the meetings you hold;they do more harm than good.17 E mentre vi do queste istruzioni, non posso lodarvi per il fatto che le vostre riunioni non si svolgono per il meglio, ma per il peggio.
In the first place, I hear that when you al come together in your assembly, there are separatefactions among you, and to some extent I believe it.18 Innanzi tutto sento dire che, quando vi radunate in assemblea, vi sono divisioni tra voi, e in parte lo credo.
It is no bad thing, either, that there should be differing groups among you so that those who are to betrusted among you can be clearly recognised.19 È necessario infatti che avvengano divisioni tra voi, perché si manifestino quelli che sono i veri credenti in mezzo a voi.
So, when you meet together, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat;20 Quando dunque vi radunate insieme, il vostro non è più un mangiare la cena del Signore.
for when the eating begins, each one of you has his own supper first, and there is one going hungrywhile another is getting drunk.21 Ciascuno infatti, quando partecipa alla cena, prende prima il proprio pasto e così uno ha fame, l'altro è ubriaco.
Surely you have homes for doing your eating and drinking in? Or have you such disregard for God'sassembly that you can put to shame those who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Congratulate you? Onthis I cannot congratulate you.22 Non avete forse le vostre case per mangiare e per bere? O volete gettare il disprezzo sulla chiesa di Dio e far vergognare chi non ha niente? Che devo dirvi? Lodarvi? In questo non vi lodo!
For the tradition I received from the Lord and also handed on to you is that on the night he wasbetrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread,23 Io, infatti, ho ricevuto dal Signore quello che a mia volta vi ho trasmesso: il Signore Gesù, nella notte in cui veniva tradito, prese del pane
and after he had given thanks, he broke it, and he said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this inremembrance of me.'24 e, dopo aver reso grazie, lo spezzò e disse: "Questo è il mio corpo, che è per voi; fate questo in memoria di me".
And in the same way, with the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.'25 Allo stesso modo, dopo aver cenato, prese anche il calice, dicendo: "Questo calice è la nuova alleanza nel mio sangue; fate questo, ogni volta che ne bevete, in memoria di me".
Whenever you eat this bread, then, and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until hecomes.26 Ogni volta infatti che mangiate di questo pane e bevete di questo calice, voi annunziate la morte del Signore finché egli venga.
Therefore anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is answerable for thebody and blood of the Lord.27 Perciò chiunque in modo indegno mangia il pane o beve il calice del Signore, sarà reo del corpo e del sangue del Signore.
Everyone is to examine himself and only then eat of the bread or drink from the cup;28 Ciascuno, pertanto, esamini se stesso e poi mangi di questo pane e beva di questo calice;
because a person who eats and drinks without recognising the body is eating and drinking his owncondemnation.29 perché chi mangia e beve senza riconoscere il corpo del Signore, mangia e beve la propria condanna.
That is why many of you are weak and il and a good number have died.30 È per questo che tra voi ci sono molti ammalati e infermi, e un buon numero sono morti.
If we were critical of ourselves we would not be condemned,31 Se però ci esaminassimo attentamente da noi stessi, non saremmo giudicati;
but when we are judged by the Lord, we are corrected by the Lord to save us from being condemnedalong with the world.32 quando poi siamo giudicati dal Signore, veniamo ammoniti per non esser condannati insieme con questo mondo.
So then, my brothers, when you meet for the Meal, wait for each other;33 Perciò, fratelli miei, quando vi radunate per la cena, aspettatevi gli uni gli altri.
anyone who is hungry should eat at home. Then your meeting wil not bring your condemnation. Theother matters I shal arrange when I come.34 E se qualcuno ha fame, mangi a casa, perché non vi raduniate a vostra condanna. Quanto alle altre cose, le sistemerò alla mia venuta.
