NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,1 Mentre il giorno di Pentecoste stava per finire, si trovavano tutti insieme nello stesso luogo.
2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;2 Venne all'improvviso dal cielo un rombo, come di vento che si abbatte gagliardo, e riempì tutta la casa dove si trovavano.
3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.3 Apparvero loro lingue come di fuoco che si dividevano e si posarono su ciascuno di loro;
4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.4 ed essi furono tutti pieni di Spirito Santo e cominciarono a parlare in altre lingue come lo Spirito dava loro il potere d'esprimersi.
5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,5 Si trovavano allora in Gerusalemme Giudei osservanti di ogni nazione che è sotto il cielo.
6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.6 Venuto quel fragore, la folla si radunò e rimase sbigottita perché ciascuno li sentiva parlare la propria lingua.
7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?7 Erano stupefatti e fuori di sé per lo stupore dicevano: "Costoro che parlano non sono forse tutti Galilei?
8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?8 E com'è che li sentiamo ciascuno parlare la nostra lingua nativa?
9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,9 Siamo Parti, Medi, Elamìti e abitanti della Mesopotàmia, della Giudea, della Cappadòcia, del Ponto e dell'Asia,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-10 della Frigia e della Panfilia, dell'Egitto e delle parti della Libia vicino a Cirène, stranieri di Roma,
11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'11 Ebrei e prosèliti, Cretesi e Arabi e li udiamo annunziare nelle nostre lingue le grandi opere di Dio".
12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.12 Tutti erano stupiti e perplessi, chiedendosi l'un l'altro: "Che significa questo?".
13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.13 Altri invece li deridevano e dicevano: "Si sono ubriacati di mosto".
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.14 Allora Pietro, levatosi in piedi con gli altri Undici, parlò a voce alta così: "Uomini di Giudea, e voi tutti che vi trovate a Gerusalemme, vi sia ben noto questo e fate attenzione alle mie parole:
15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.15 Questi uomini non sono ubriachi come voi sospettate, essendo appena le nove del mattino.
16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:16 Accade invece quello che predisse il profeta Gioèle:
17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.17 Negli ultimi giorni, dice il Signore,

'Io effonderò il mio Spirito sopra ogni persona;
i vostri figli e le vostre figlie profeteranno,
i vostri giovani avranno visioni
e i vostri anziani faranno dei sogni.'
18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.18 'E anche sui miei servi e sulle mie serve
in quei giorni effonderò il mio Spirito ed essi profeteranno.'
19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.19 'Farò prodigi' in alto 'nel cielo
e' segni in basso 'sulla terra,'
sangue, fuoco e nuvole di fumo.
20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.20 'Il sole si muterà in tenebra e la luna in sangue,
prima che giunga il giorno del Signore,
giorno grande e splendido.'
21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.21 'Allora chiunque invocherà il nome del Signore sarà salvato'.

22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.22 Uomini d'Israele, ascoltate queste parole: Gesù di Nàzaret - uomo accreditato da Dio presso di voi per mezzo di miracoli, prodigi e segni, che Dio stesso operò fra di voi per opera sua, come voi ben sapete -,
23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.23 dopo che, secondo il prestabilito disegno e la prescienza di Dio, fu consegnato a voi, voi l'avete inchiodato sulla croce per mano di empi e l'avete ucciso.
24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,24 Ma Dio lo ha risuscitato, sciogliendolo dalle angosce della morte, perché non era possibile che questa lo tenesse in suo potere.
25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.25 Dice infatti Davide a suo riguardo:

'Contemplavo sempre il Signore innanzi a me;
poiché egli sta alla mia destra, perché io non vacilli.'
26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,26 'Per questo si rallegrò il mio cuore ed esultò la mia lingua;
ed anche la mia carne riposerà nella speranza,'
27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.27 'perché tu non abbandonerai l'anima mia negli inferi,
né permetterai che il tuo Santo veda la corruzione.'
28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.28 'Mi hai fatto conoscere le vie della vita,
mi colmerai di gioia con la tua presenza.'

29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.29 Fratelli, mi sia lecito dirvi francamente, riguardo al patriarca Davide, che egli morì e fu sepolto e la sua tomba è ancora oggi fra noi.
30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,30 Poiché però era profeta e sapeva che Dio 'gli aveva giurato solennemente di far sedere sul suo trono un suo discendente',
31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.31 previde la risurrezione di Cristo e ne parlò:

'questi non fu abbandonato negli inferi,
né' la sua carne 'vide corruzione.'

32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.32 Questo Gesù Dio l'ha risuscitato e noi tutti ne siamo testimoni.
33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.33 Innalzato pertanto alla destra di Dio e dopo aver ricevuto dal Padre lo Spirito Santo che egli aveva promesso, lo ha effuso, come voi stessi potete vedere e udire.
34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,34 Davide infatti non salì al cielo; tuttavia egli dice:

'Disse il Signore al mio Signore:
siedi alla mia destra,'
35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.35 'finché io ponga i tuoi nemici
come sgabello ai tuoi piedi.'

36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'36 Sappia dunque con certezza tutta la casa di Israele che Dio ha costituito Signore e Cristo quel Gesù che voi avete crocifisso!".

37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'37 All'udir tutto questo si sentirono trafiggere il cuore e dissero a Pietro e agli altri apostoli: "Che cosa dobbiamo fare, fratelli?".
38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.38 E Pietro disse: "Pentitevi e ciascuno di voi si faccia battezzare nel nome di Gesù Cristo, per la remissione dei vostri peccati; dopo riceverete il dono dello Spirito Santo.
39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'39 Per voi infatti è la promessa e per i vostri figli e per tutti 'quelli che sono lontani, quanti ne chiamerà il Signore' Dio nostro".
40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'40 Con molte altre parole li scongiurava e li esortava: "Salvatevi da questa generazione perversa".
41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.41 Allora coloro che accolsero la sua parola furono battezzati e quel giorno si unirono a loro circa tremila persone.

42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.42 Erano assidui nell'ascoltare l'insegnamento degli apostoli e nell'unione fraterna, nella frazione del pane e nelle preghiere.
43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.43 Un senso di timore era in tutti e prodigi e segni avvenivano per opera degli apostoli.
44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;44 Tutti coloro che erano diventati credenti stavano insieme e tenevano ogni cosa in comune;
45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.45 chi aveva proprietà e sostanze le vendeva e ne faceva parte a tutti, secondo il bisogno di ciascuno.
46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;46 Ogni giorno tutti insieme frequentavano il tempio e spezzavano il pane a casa prendendo i pasti con letizia e semplicità di cuore,
47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.47 lodando Dio e godendo la simpatia di tutto il popolo.
48 Intanto il Signore ogni giorno aggiungeva alla comunità quelli che erano salvati.
