NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 When Israel was a child I loved him, and I cal ed my son out of Egypt.1 Quando Israele era giovinetto,
io l'ho amato
e dall'Egitto ho chiamato mio figlio.
2 But the more I cal ed, the further they went away from me; they offered sacrifice to Baal and burntincense to idols.2 Ma più li chiamavo,
più si allontanavano da me;
immolavano vittime ai Baal,
agli idoli bruciavano incensi.
3 I myself taught Ephraim to walk, I myself took them by the arm, but they did not know that I was theone caring for them,3 Ad Èfraim io insegnavo a camminare
tenendolo per mano,
ma essi non compresero
che avevo cura di loro.
4 that I was leading them with human ties, with leading-strings of love, that, with them, I was likesomeone lifting an infant to his cheek, and that I bent down to feed him.4 Io li traevo con legami di bontà,
con vincoli d'amore;
ero per loro
come chi solleva un bimbo alla sua guancia;
mi chinavo su di lui
per dargli da mangiare.
5 He wil not have to go back to Egypt, Assyria wil be his king instead! Since he has refused to comeback to me,5 Ritornerà al paese d'Egitto,
Assur sarà il suo re,
perché non hanno voluto convertirsi.
6 the sword wil rage through his cities, destroying the bars of his gates, devouring them because oftheir plots.6 La spada farà strage nelle loro città,
sterminerà i loro figli,
demolirà le loro fortezze.

7 My people are bent on disregarding me; if they are summoned to come up, not one of them makes amove.7 Il mio popolo è duro a convertirsi:
chiamato a guardare in alto
nessuno sa sollevare lo sguardo.
8 Ephraim, how could I part with you? Israel, how could I give you up? How could I make you likeAdmah or treat you like Zeboi m? My heart within me is overwhelmed, fever grips my inmost being.8 Come potrei abbandonarti, Èfraim,
come consegnarti ad altri, Israele?
Come potrei trattarti al pari di Admà,
ridurti allo stato di Zeboìm?
Il mio cuore si commuove dentro di me,
il mio intimo freme di compassione.
9 I wil not give rein to my fierce anger, I wil not destroy Ephraim again, for I am God, not man, the HolyOne in your midst, and I shall not come to you in anger.9 Non darò sfogo all'ardore della mia ira,
non tornerò a distruggere Èfraim,
perché sono Dio e non uomo;
sono il Santo in mezzo a te
e non verrò nella mia ira.

10 They wil fol ow Yahweh; he wil roar like a lion, and when he roars, his children will come flutteringfrom the west,10 Seguiranno il Signore
ed egli ruggirà come un leone:
quando ruggirà, accorreranno
i suoi figli dall'occidente,
11 fluttering like sparrows from Egypt, like pigeons from Assyria, and I shal settle them in their homes-declares Yahweh.11 accorreranno come uccelli dall'Egitto,
come colombe dall'Assiria
e li farò abitare nelle loro case.
Oracolo del Signore.
