NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Yahweh gave me a vision: set out in front of the Temple of Yahweh were two baskets of figs. This wasafter Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had led Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, away into exile fromJerusalem, with the chief men of Judah, the blacksmiths and metalworkers, and had taken them to Babylon.1 Il Signore mi mostrò due canestri di fichi posti davanti al tempio, dopo che Nabucodònosor re di Babilonia aveva deportato da Gerusalemme Ieconia figlio di Ioiakìm re di Giuda, i capi di Giuda, gli artigiani e i fabbri e li aveva condotti a Babilonia.
One basket contained excellent figs, like those that ripen first; the other contained very bad figs, so badthey were uneatable.2 Un canestro era pieno di fichi molto buoni, come i fichi primaticci, mentre l'altro canestro era pieno di fichi cattivi, così cattivi che non si potevano mangiare.
Yahweh said to me, 'What do you see, Jeremiah?' 'Figs,' I answered, 'the good ones excel ent, the badones very bad, so bad as to be uneatable.'3 Il Signore mi disse: "Che cosa vedi, Geremia?". Io risposi: "Fichi; i fichi buoni sono molto buoni, i cattivi sono molto cattivi, tanto cattivi che non si possono mangiare".
Then the word of Yahweh was addressed to me,4 Allora mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:
'Yahweh, the God of Israel, says this, "As these figs are good, so I mean to concern myself with thewelfare of the exiles of Judah whom I have sent from this place to the country of the Chaldaeans.5 "Dice il Signore Dio di Israele: Come si ha riguardo di questi fichi buoni, così io avrò riguardo, per il loro bene, dei deportati di Giuda che ho fatto andare da questo luogo nel paese dei Caldei.
My eyes will watch over them for their good, to bring them back to this country, to build them up andnot to break them down, to plant them and not to uproot them.6 Io poserò lo sguardo sopra di loro per il loro bene; li ricondurrò in questo paese, li ristabilirò fermamente e non li demolirò; li pianterò e non li sradicherò mai più.
I shal give them a heart to acknowledge that I am Yahweh. They wil be my people and I shal be theirGod, for they will return to me with all their heart.7 Darò loro un cuore capace di conoscermi, perché io sono il Signore; essi saranno il mio popolo e io sarò il loro Dio, se torneranno a me con tutto il cuore.
As for the bad figs, the figs so bad as to be uneatable-yes, Yahweh says this -- that is how I shal treatZedekiah king of Judah, his chief men and what is left of Jerusalem, those who remain in this country and thoseliving in Egypt.8 Come invece si trattano i fichi cattivi, che non si possono mangiare tanto sono cattivi - così parla il Signore - così io farò di Sedecìa re di Giuda, dei suoi capi e del resto di Gerusalemme, ossia dei superstiti in questo paese, e di coloro che abitano nel paese d'Egitto.
I shal make them an object of horror, a disaster, to all the kingdoms of the earth, a thing of shame, abyword, a laughing-stock, a curse, wherever I shal drive them.9 Li renderò oggetto di spavento per tutti i regni della terra, l'obbrobrio, la favola, lo zimbello e la maledizione in tutti i luoghi dove li scaccerò.
Sword, famine and plague I shall send against them until they have vanished from the soil I gave tothem and to their ancestors." '10 Manderò contro di loro la spada, la fame e la peste finché non scompariranno dal paese che io diedi a loro e ai loro padri".
