NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 Proclamation about the coastal desert: As whirlwinds sweeping over the Negeb, he comes from thedesert, from a fearsome country.1 Oracolo sul deserto del mare.

Come i turbini che si scatenano nel Negheb,
così egli viene dal deserto, da una terra orribile.
2 A harsh vision has been shown me, 'The traitor betrays and the despoiler despoils. Advance, Elam, laysiege, Media!' I have cut short all groaning.2 Una visione angosciosa mi fu mostrata:
il saccheggiatore che saccheggia,
il distruttore che distrugge.
Salite, o Elamiti,
assediate, o Medi!
Io faccio cessare ogni gemito.
3 This is why my loins are racked with pain, why I am seized with pangs like the pangs of a woman inlabour; I am too distressed to hear, too afraid to look.3 Per questo i miei reni tremano,
mi hanno colto i dolori come di una partoriente;
sono troppo sconvolto per udire,
troppo sbigottito per vedere.
4 My heart is bewildered, dread overwhelms me, the twilight I longed for has become my horror.4 Smarrito è il mio cuore,
la costernazione mi invade;
il crepuscolo tanto desiderato
diventa il mio terrore.
5 They lay the table, spread the cloth, they eat, they drink. Up, princes, grease the shield!5 Si prepara la tavola,
si stende la tovaglia,
si mangia, si beve.
"Alzatevi, o capi,
ungete gli scudi!".
6 For this is what the Lord has told me, 'Go, post a look-out, let him report what he sees.6 Poiché così mi ha detto il Signore:
"Va', metti una sentinella
che annunzi quanto vede.
7 He will see cavalry, horsemen two by two, men mounted on donkeys, men mounted on camels; let himwatch alertly, be very alert indeed!'7 Se vede cavalleria,
coppie di cavalieri,
gente che cavalca asini,
gente che cavalca cammelli,
osservi attentamente,
con grande attenzione".
8 Then the look-out shouted, 'On the watchtower, Lord, I stay al day and at my post I stand al night.8 La vedetta ha gridato:
"Al posto di osservazione, Signore,
io sto sempre, tutto il giorno,
e nel mio osservatorio
sto in piedi, tutta la notte.
9 Now the cavalry is coming, horsemen two by two.' He shouted again and said, 'Babylon has fallen, hasfal en, and al the images of her gods he has shattered to the ground!'9 Ecco, arriva una schiera di cavalieri,
coppie di cavalieri".
Essi esclamano e dicono: "È caduta,
è caduta Babilonia!
Tutte le statue dei suoi dèi
sono a terra, in frantumi".
10 You whom I have threshed, grain of my threshing-floor, what I have heard from Yahweh Sabaoth, Godof Israel, I am tel ing you now.10 O popolo mio, calpestato,
che ho trebbiato come su un'aia,
ciò che ho udito
dal Signore degli eserciti,
Dio di Israele,
a voi ho annunziato.

11 Proclamation about Dumah: From Seir, someone shouts to me, 'Watchman, what time of night?Watchman, what time of night?'11 Oracolo sull'Idumea.

Mi gridano da Seir:
"Sentinella, quanto resta della notte?
Sentinella, quanto resta della notte?".
12 The watchman answers, 'Morning is coming, then night again. If you want to ask, ask! Come back!Come here!'12 La sentinella risponde:
"Viene il mattino, poi anche la notte;
se volete domandare, domandate,
convertitevi, venite!".

13 Proclamation about the wastelands: In the thickets, on the wastelands, you spend the night, youcaravans of Dedanites.13 Oracolo sull'Arabia.

Nel bosco, nell'Arabia, passate la notte,
carovane di Dedan;
14 Bring water for the thirsty! The inhabitants of Tema went with bread to greet the fugitive.14 andando incontro agli assetati,
portate acqua.
Abitanti del paese di Tema,
presentatevi ai fuggiaschi con pane per loro.
15 For these have fled before the sword, the naked sword and the bent bow, the press of battle.15 Perché essi fuggono di fronte alle spade,
di fronte alla spada affilata,
di fronte all'arco teso,
di fronte al furore della battaglia.

16 For this is what the Lord has told me, 'In one year's time as a hired worker reckons it, al the glory ofKedar will be finished16 Poiché mi ha detto il Signore: "Ancora un anno, contato alla maniera degli anni di un salariato, e scomparirà tutta la potenza gloriosa di Kedàr.
17 and, of the valiant archers, the Kedarites, hardly any wil be left, for Yahweh, God of Israel, hasspoken.'17 E il numero degli archi dei prodi di Kedàr resterà molto esiguo, perché il Signore Dio di Israele ha parlato".
