NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 When they had finished eating and drinking and it seemed time to go to bed, the young man was takenfrom the dining room to the bedroom.	1 Quando ebbero finito di mangiare e di bere, decisero di andare a dormire. Accompagnarono il giovane e lo introdussero nella camera da letto.
2 Tobias remembered Raphael's advice; he went to his bag, took the fish's heart and liver out of it and putsome on the burning incense.	2 Tobia allora si ricordò delle parole di Raffaele: prese dal suo sacco il fegato e il cuore del pesce e li pose sulla brace dell'incenso.
3 The reek of the fish distressed the demon, who fled through the air to Egypt. Raphael pursued himthere, shackled him and strangled him forthwith.	3 L'odore del pesce respinse il demonio, che fuggì nelle regioni dell'alto Egitto. Raffaele vi si recò all'istante e in quel luogo lo incatenò e lo mise in ceppi.
4 The parents meanwhile had gone out and shut the door behind them. Tobias rose from the bed, andsaid to Sarah, 'Get up, my sister! You and I must pray and petition our Lord to win his grace and his protection.'	4 Gli altri intanto erano usciti e avevano chiuso la porta della camera. Tobia si alzò dal letto e disse a Sara: "Sorella, alzati! Preghiamo e domandiamo al Signore che ci dia grazia e salvezza".
5 She stood up, and they began praying for protection, and this was how he began: You are blessed, OGod of our fathers; blessed too is your name for ever and ever. Let the heavens bless you and al things youhave made for evermore.	5 Essa si alzò e si misero a pregare e a chiedere che venisse su di loro la salvezza, dicendo: "Benedetto sei tu, Dio dei nostri padri, e benedetto per tutte le generazioni è il tuo nome! Ti benedicano i cieli e tutte le creature per tutti i secoli!
6 You it was who created Adam, you who created Eve his wife to be his help and support; and from thesetwo the human race was born. You it was who said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone; let us make hima helper like him.'	6 Tu hai creato Adamo e hai creato Eva sua moglie, perché gli fosse di aiuto e di sostegno. Da loro due nacque tutto il genere umano. Tu hai detto: non è cosa buona che l'uomo resti solo; facciamogli un aiuto simile a lui.
7 And so I take my sister not for any lustful motive, but I do it in singleness of heart. Be kind enough tohave pity on her and on me and bring us to old age together.	7 Ora non per lussuria io prendo questa mia parente, ma con rettitudine d'intenzione. Dègnati di aver misericordia di me e di lei e di farci giungere insieme alla vecchiaia".
8 And together they said, 'Amen, Amen,'	8 E dissero insieme: "Amen, amen!".
9 and lay down for the night. But Raguel rose and cal ed his servants, who came and helped him dig agrave.	9 Poi dormirono per tutta la notte.
10 He had thought, 'Heaven grant he does not die! We should be overwhelmed with ridicule and shame.'	10 Ma Raguele si alzò; chiamò i servi e andò con loro a scavare una fossa. Diceva infatti: "Caso mai sia morto, non abbiamo a diventare oggetto di scherno e di ribrezzo".
11 When the grave was ready, Raguel went back to the house, called his wife	11 Quando ebbero terminato di scavare la tomba, Raguele tornò in casa; chiamò la moglie
12 and said, 'Will you send a maid to the room to see if Tobias is stil alive? For if he is dead, we may beable to bury him without anyone else knowing.'	12 e le disse: "Manda in camera una delle serve a vedere se è vivo; così, se è morto, lo seppelliremo senza che nessuno lo sappia".
13 They sent the maid, lit the lamp, opened the door and the maid went in. She found the two fast asleeptogether;	13 Mandarono avanti la serva, accesero la lampada e aprirono la porta; essa entrò e li trovò che dormivano insieme, immersi in un sonno profondo.
14 she came out again and whispered, 'He is not dead; al is wel .'	14 La serva uscì e riferì loro che era vivo e che non era successo nulla di male.
15 Then Raguel blessed the God of heaven with these words: You are blessed, my God, with everyblessing that is pure; may you be blessed for evermore!	15 Benedissero allora il Dio del cielo: "Tu sei benedetto, o Dio, con ogni pura benedizione. Ti benedicano per tutti i secoli!
16 You are blessed for having made me glad. What I feared has not happened, instead you have shownus your boundless mercy.	16 Tu sei benedetto, perché mi hai rallegrato e non è avvenuto ciò che temevo, ma ci hai trattato secondo la tua grande misericordia.
17 You are blessed for taking pity on this only son, this only daughter. Grant them, Master, your mercyand your protection; let them live out their lives in happiness and in mercy.	17 Tu sei benedetto, perché hai avuto compassione dei due figli unici. Concedi loro, Signore, grazia e salvezza e falli giungere fino al termine della loro vita in mezzo alla gioia e alla grazia".
18 And he made his servants fil the grave in before dawn broke.	18 Allora ordinò ai servi di riempire la fossa prima che si facesse giorno.
19 He told his wife to make an ovenful of bread; he went to his flock, brought back two oxen and foursheep and gave orders for them to be cooked; and preparations began.	19 Raguele ordinò alla moglie di fare il pane in abbondanza; andò a prendere dalla mandria due vitelli e quattro montoni; li fece macellare e cominciarono così a preparare il banchetto.
20 He called Tobias and said, 'I wil not hear of your leaving here for a fortnight. You are to stay whereyou are, eating and drinking, with me. You wil make my daughter happy again after al her troubles.	20 Poi chiamò Tobia e sotto giuramento gli disse: "Per quattordici giorni non te ne andrai di qui, ma ti fermerai da me a mangiare e a bere e così allieterai l'anima già tanto afflitta di mia figlia.
21 After that, take away a half of al I have, and take her safe and sound back to your father. When mywife and I are dead you shall have the other half. Courage, my boy! I am your father, and Edna is your mother.We are your parents in future, as we are your sister's. Courage, my son!'	21 Di quanto possiedo prenditi la metà e torna sano e salvo da tuo padre. Quando io e mia moglie saremo morti, anche l'altra metà sarà vostra. Coraggio, figlio! Io sono tuo padre ed Edna è tua madre; noi apparteniamo a te come a questa tua sorella da ora per sempre. Coraggio, figlio!".
