NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year ofSolomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began building the Temple ofYahweh.1 Alla costruzione del tempio del Signore fu dato inizio l'anno quattrocentottanta dopo l'uscita degli Israeliti dal paese d'Egitto, l'anno quarto del regno di Salomone su Israele, nel mese di Ziv, cioè nel secondo mese.
The temple which King Solomon built for Yahweh was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and twenty-five high.2 Il tempio costruito dal re Salomone per il Signore, era lungo sessanta cubiti, largo venti, alto trenta.
The portico in front of the Hekal of the Temple was twenty cubits long across the width of the Templeand ten cubits wide along the length of the Temple.3 Davanti al tempio vi era un atrio lungo venti cubiti, in base alla larghezza del tempio, ed esteso per dieci cubiti secondo la lunghezza del tempio.
He made windows for the Temple with frames and latticework.4 Fece nel tempio finestre quadrangolari con grate.
He also built an annex against the Temple wal , right round the Hekal and Debir. He built lateral storeysal round;5 Intorno al muro del tempio fu costruito un edificio a piani, lungo la navata e la cella.
the lowest lateral storey was five cubits wide, the middle one six cubits, and the third seven cubits, for hehad made the outside of the Temple wal correspondingly stepped back al round, so that the annex was notattached to the Temple wal s.6 Il piano più basso era largo cinque cubiti, quello di mezzo sei e il terzo sette, perché le mura esterne, intorno, erano state costruite a riseghe, in modo che le travi non poggiassero sulle mura del tempio.
(The building of the Temple was done with quarry -- dressed stone; no sound of hammer or pick or anyiron tool was to be heard in the Temple while it was being built.)7 Per la sua costruzione si usarono pietre lavorate e intere; durante i lavori nel tempio non si udì rumore di martelli, di piccone o di altro arnese di ferro.
The entrance to the lowest storey was at the right-hand corner of the Temple; access to the middlestorey was by a spiral staircase, and so from the middle storey to the third.8 La porta del piano più basso era sul lato destro del tempio; per mezzo di una scala a chiocciola si passava al piano di mezzo e dal piano di mezzo a quello superiore.
Having finished building the Temple, he roofed the Temple with a coffered ceiling of cedar wood.9 In tal modo Salomone costruì il tempio; dopo averlo terminato, lo ricoprì con assi e travi di cedro.
Round the outside of the Temple he then built the annex which was five cubits high and was joined tothe Temple by cedar-wood beams.10 Innalzò anche l'ala laterale intorno al tempio, alta cinque cubiti per piano; la unì al tempio con travi di cedro.
And the word of Yahweh came to Solomon,11 E il Signore parlò a Salomone e disse:
'With regard to this temple which you are now building, if you follow my statutes and obey myordinances and faithful y follow my commandments, I shal fulfil the promise which I made about you to yourfather David.12 "Riguardo al tempio che stai edificando, se camminerai secondo i miei decreti, se eseguirai le mie disposizioni e osserverai tutti i miei comandi, uniformando ad essi la tua condotta, io confermerò a tuo favore le parole dette da me a Davide tuo padre.
And I shal make my home among the Israelites and never forsake Israel my people.'13 Io abiterò in mezzo agli Israeliti; non abbandonerò il mio popolo Israele".
Solomon finished building the Temple.14 Terminata la costruzione del tempio,
He lined the inside of the Temple wal s with panels of cedar wood-panelling them on the inside fromthe floor of the Temple to the beams of the ceiling -- and laid the floor of the Temple with juniper planks.15 Salomone rivestì all'interno le pareti del tempio con tavole di cedro dal pavimento al soffitto; rivestì anche con legno di cedro la parte interna del soffitto e con tavole di cipresso il pavimento.
The twenty cubits measured from the end of the Temple he built of cedar planks from the floor to thebeams, and this part was reserved as the Debir, the Holy of Holies.16 Separò uno spazio di venti cubiti, a partire dal fondo del tempio, con un assito di tavole di cedro che dal pavimento giungeva al soffitto, e la cella che ne risultò all'interno divenne il santuario, il Santo dei santi.
The Temple measured forty cubits -- the Hekal -- in front of the Debir.17 La navata di fronte ad esso era di quaranta cubiti.
There was cedar wood round the inside of the Temple, ornamentally carved with gourds and rosettes;al was cedar wood, with no stone showing.18 Il cedro all'interno del tempio era scolpito a rosoni e a boccioli di fiori; tutto era di cedro e non si vedeva una pietra.
In the inner part of the Temple he designed a Debir, to contain the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.19 Per l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore fu apprestata una cella nella parte più segreta del tempio.
The Debir was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty high, and he overlaid it on the insidewith pure gold. He made an altar of cedar wood20 La cella interna era lunga venti cubiti e alta venti.
He overlaid the whole Temple with gold, the whole Temple entirely.22 E d'oro fu rivestito tutto l'interno del tempio, e rivestì d'oro anche tutto l'altare che era nella cella.
In the Debir he made two great winged creatures of wild-olive wood. . .It was ten cubits high.23 Nella cella fece due cherubini di legno di ulivo, alti dieci cubiti.
One winged creature's wing was five cubits long and the other wing five cubits: ten cubits from wing tipto wing tip.24 L'ala di un cherubino era di cinque cubiti e di cinque cubiti era anche l'altra ala del cherubino; c'erano dieci cubiti da una estremità all'altra delle ali.
The other winged creature also measured ten cubits; both had the same measurements and the sameshape.25 Di dieci cubiti era l'altro cherubino; i due cherubini erano identici nella misura e nella forma.
The height of one was the same as the other's.26 L'altezza di un cherubino era di dieci cubiti, così anche quella dell'altro.
He placed them in the middle of the inner chamber; their wings were spread out so that the wing of onetouched one of the wal s and the wing of the other touched the other wall, while their wings met in the middle ofthe chamber wing to wing.27 Pose i cherubini nella parte più riposta del tempio, nel santuario. I cherubini avevano le ali spiegate; l'ala di uno toccava la parete e l'ala dell'altro toccava l'altra parete; le loro ali si toccavano in mezzo al tempio, ala contro ala.
And he overlaid them with gold.28 Erano anch'essi rivestiti d'oro.
Al round the Temple wal s he carved figures of winged creatures, palm trees and rosettes, both insideand outside.29 Ricoprì le pareti del tempio con sculture e incisioni di cherubini, di palme e di boccioli di fiori, all'interno e all'esterno.
He overlaid the floor of the Temple with gold, both inside and outside.30 Ricoprì d'oro il pavimento del tempio, all'interno e all'esterno.
He made the door of the Debir with uprights of wild-olive wood, and door jambs with five indentedsections,31 Fece costruire la porta della cella con battenti di legno di ulivo; il frontale e gli stipiti formavano un pentagono.
and the two leaves of wild-olive wood. He carved figures of great winged creatures, palm trees androsettes which he overlaid with gold, and he gilded winged creatures and palm trees.32 I due battenti erano di legno di ulivo. Su di essi fece scolpire cherubini, palme e boccioli di fiori, che ricoprì d'oro, stendendo lamine d'oro sui cherubini e sulle palme.
Similarly, he made uprights of wild-olive wood for the door of the Hekal, and door jambs with fourindented sections,33 Lo stesso procedimento adottò per la porta della navata, che aveva stipiti di legno di ulivo a forma quadrangolare.
and the two leaves of juniper: one leaf had two ribs binding it, and the other had two ribs binding it.34 I due battenti erano di legno di abete; un battente era costituito da due pezzi girevoli e così l'altro battente.
He carved winged creatures, palm trees and rosettes, which he overlaid with gold laid evenly over thecarvings.35 Vi scolpì cherubini, palme e boccioli di fiori, che ricoprì d'oro lungo le linee dell'incisione.
He built the wal of the inner court in three courses of dressed stone and one course of cedar beams.36 Costruì il muro del cortile interno con tre ordini di pietre squadrate e con un ordine di tavole di cedro.
In the fourth year, in the month of Ziv, the foundations of the Temple were laid;37 Nell'anno quarto, nel mese di Ziv, si gettarono le fondamenta del tempio del Signore.
in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul -- that is, the eighth month -- the Temple was completedexactly as it had been planned and designed. Solomon took seven years to build it.38 Nell'anno undecimo, nel mese di Bul, che è l'ottavo mese, fu terminato il tempio in tutte le sue parti e con tutto l'occorrente. Salomone lo edificò in sette anni.
