NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.1 Trascorsero tre anni senza guerra fra Aram e Israele.
Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.2 Nel terzo anno Giòsafat re di Giuda fece visita al re di Israele.
The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'3 Ora il re di Israele aveva detto ai suoi ufficiali: "Non sapete che Ramot di Gàlaad è nostra? Eppure noi ce ne stiamo inerti, senza riprenderla dalle mani di Aram".
He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'4 Disse a Giòsafat: "Verresti con me a combattere per Ramot di Gàlaad?".
Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'5 Giòsafat disse al re di Israele: "Consulta oggi stesso la parola del Signore".
The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'6 Il re di Israele radunò i profeti, in numero di circa quattrocento, e domandò loro: "Devo muovere contro Ramot di Gàlaad oppure devo rinunziarvi?".
Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'7 Giòsafat disse: "Non c'è più nessun altro profeta del Signore da consultare?".
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.8 Il re di Israele rispose a Giòsafat: "Ci sarebbe ancora un uomo, attraverso il quale si potrebbe consultare il Signore, ma io lo detesto perché non mi predice altro che male, mai qualcosa di buono. Si tratta di Michea, figlio di Imla". Giòsafat disse: "Il re non parli così!".
The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'9 Il re di Israele, chiamato un eunuco, gli ordinò: "Convoca subito Michea, figlio di Imla".
The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.10 Il re di Israele e Giòsafat re di Giuda sedevano ognuno sul suo trono, vestiti dei loro mantelli, nell'aia di fronte alla porta di Samaria; tutti i profeti predicevano davanti a loro.
Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '11 Sedecìa, figlio di Chenaana, che si era fatte corna di ferro, affermava: "Dice il Signore: Con queste cozzerai contro gli Aramei fino al loro sterminio".
And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'12 Tutti i profeti predicevano allo stesso modo: "Assali Ramot di Gàlaad, riuscirai. Il Signore la metterà nelle mani del re".
The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'13 Il messaggero, che era andato a chiamare Michea, gli disse: "Ecco, le parole dei profeti sono concordi nel predire il successo del re; ora la tua parola sia identica alla loro; preannunzia il successo".
Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'14 Michea rispose: "Per la vita del Signore, comunicherò quanto il Signore mi dirà".
When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'15 Si presentò al re che gli domandò: "Michea, dobbiamo muovere contro Ramot di Gàlaad oppure dobbiamo rinunziarvi?".
The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'16 Il re gli disse: "Quante volte ti devo scongiurare di non dirmi se non la verità nel nome del Signore?".
Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'17 Quegli disse:

"Vedo tutti gli Israeliti
vagare sui monti
come pecore senza pastore.

At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'18 Il re di Israele disse a Giòsafat: "Non te l'avevo forse detto che non mi avrebbe profetizzato nulla di buono, ma solo il male?".
Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.19 Michea disse: "Per questo, ascolta la parola del Signore. Io ho visto il Signore seduto sul trono; tutto l'esercito del cielo gli stava intorno, a destra e a sinistra.
Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.20 Il Signore ha domandato: Chi ingannerà Acab perché muova contro Ramot di Gàlaad e vi perisca? Chi ha risposto in un modo e chi in un altro.
A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."21 Si è fatto avanti uno spirito che - postosi davanti al Signore - ha detto: Lo ingannerò io. Il Signore gli ha domandato: Come?
"How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."22 Ha risposto: Andrò e diventerò spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti i suoi profeti.
And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'23 Ecco, dunque, il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti; ma il Signore a tuo riguardo preannunzia una sciagura".
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'24 Allora Sedecìa, figlio di Chenaana, si avvicinò e percosse Michea sulla guancia dicendo: "Per quale via lo spirito del Signore è passato quando è uscito da me per parlare a te?".
'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'25 Michea rispose: "Ecco, lo vedrai quando passerai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti".
The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash, the king's son,26 Il re di Israele disse: "Prendi Michea e conducilo da Amon governatore della città e da Ioas figlio del re.
and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '27 Dirai loro: Il re ordina: Mettetelo in prigione e mantenetelo con il minimo indispensabile di pane e di acqua finché tornerò sano e salvo".
Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'28 Michea disse: "Se tornerai in pace, il Signore non ha parlato per mio mezzo".
The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.29 Il re di Israele marciò, insieme con Giòsafat re di Giuda, contro Ramot di Gàlaad.
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.30 Il re di Israele disse a Giòsafat: "Io per combattere mi travestirò: tu resta con i tuoi abiti".
Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'31 Il re di Aram aveva ordinato ai capi dei suoi carri - erano trentadue -: "Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, se non contro il re di Israele".
So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry32 Appena videro Giòsafat, i capi dei carri dissero: "Certo, questi è il re di Israele". Si volsero contro di lui per investirlo. Giòsafat lanciò un grido
the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.33 e allora i capi dei carri si accorsero che egli non era il re di Israele e si allontanarono da lui.
Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'34 Ma un uomo tese a caso l'arco e colpì il re di Israele fra le maglie dell'armatura e la corazza.
But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.35 La battaglia infuriò per tutto quel giorno; il re se ne stava sul suo carro di fronte agli Aramei.
At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!36 Al tramonto un grido si diffuse per l'accampamento: "Ognuno alla sua città e ognuno alla sua tenda!
The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.37 Il re è morto!". Lo portarono in Samaria e là lo seppellirono.
They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.38 Il carro fu lavato nella piscina di Samaria dove si lavavano le prostitute e i cani leccarono il suo sangue, secondo la parola pronunziata dal Signore.
