1 After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them. From the grip of the Philistines he wrested. . .1 Dopo, Davide sconfisse i Filistei e li sottomise e tolse di mano ai Filistei Gat e le sue dipendenze.
2 He also defeated the Moabites and, making them lie on the ground, measured them off by the line; hemeasured out two lines to be put to death and one ful line to have their lives spared. The Moabites becameDavid's subjects and paid him tribute.2 Sconfisse anche i Moabiti e, facendoli coricare per terra, li misurò con la corda; ne misurò due corde per farli mettere a morte e una corda intera per lasciarli in vita. I Moabiti divennero sudditi di Davide, a lui tributari.
3 David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when the latter mounted an expedition toextend his power over the River.3 Davide sconfisse anche Hadad-Èzer, figlio di Recòb, re di Zobà, mentre egli andava ad estendere il dominio sul fiume Eufrate.
4 David captured one thousand seven hundred charioteers and twenty thousand foot soldiers from him;David hamstrung all the chariot teams, keeping only a hundred of them.4 Davide gli prese millesettecento combattenti sui carri e ventimila fanti: tagliò i garretti a tutte le pariglie di cavalli, riservandone soltanto cento.
5 The Aramaeans of Damascus came to the help of Hadadezer king of Zobah, but David kil ed twenty-two thousand of the Aramaeans.5 Quando gli Aramei di Damasco vennero per soccorrere Hadad-Èzer, re di Zobà, Davide ne uccise ventiduemila.
6 David then imposed governors on Aram of Damascus, and the Aramaeans became David's subjectsand paid him tribute. 10 he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him on having made war onHadadezer and on having defeated him, since Hadadezer was at war with Tou. Adduràm gli portò vasi d'argento, vasi d'oro e vasi di rame.
11 which King David also consecrated to Yahweh, as he had already consecrated the silver and goldtaken from al the nations which he had subjugated-11 Il re Davide consacrò anche quelli al Signore, come già aveva consacrato l'argento e l'oro tolto alle nazioni che aveva soggiogate,
12 from Aram, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines and Amalek; and from the spoil of Hadadezer son ofRehob, king of Zobah.12 agli Aramei, ai Moabiti, agli Ammoniti, ai Filistei, agli Amaleciti, e come aveva fatto del bottino di Hadad-Èzer figlio di Recòb, re di Zobà.
13 David became famous when he came home from defeating the Edomites in the Valley of Salt --eighteen thousand of them.13 Al ritorno dalla sua vittoria sugli Aramei, Davide acquistò ancora fama, sconfiggendo nella Valle del Sale diciottomila Idumei.
14 He imposed governors on Edom and all the Edomites became David's subjects. Wherever Davidwent, Yahweh gave him victory.14 Stabilì guarnigioni in Idumea; ne mise per tutta l'Idumea e tutti gli Idumei divennero sudditi di Davide; il Signore rendeva vittorioso Davide dovunque egli andava.
15 David ruled over al Israel, administering law and justice to al his people.15 Davide regnò su tutto Israele e pronunziava giudizi e faceva giustizia a tutto il suo popolo.
16 Joab son of Zeruiah was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was herald;16 Ioab figlio di Zeruià comandava l'esercito; Giosafat figlio di Achilùd era archivista;
17 Zadok and Abiathar son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, were priests; Seraiah was secretary;17 Zadòk figlio di Achitùb e Achimèlech figlio di Ebiatàr erano sacerdoti; Seraià era segretario,
18 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in command of the Cherethites and Pelethites; David's sons werepriests.18 Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, era capo dei Cretei e dei Peletei e i figli di Davide erano ministri.
