2 Samuel 19

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 The king shuddered. He went up to the room over the gate and burst into tears; and, as he wept, hekept saying, 'Oh, my son Absalom! My son! My son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you! Oh, Absalom myson, my son!'	1 Allora il re fu scosso da un tremito, salì al piano di sopra della porta e pianse; diceva in lacrime: "Figlio mio! Assalonne figlio mio, figlio mio Assalonne! Fossi morto io invece di te, Assalonne, figlio mio, figlio mio!".
2 Word was brought to Joab, 'The king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.'	2 Fu riferito a Ioab: "Ecco il re piange e fa lutto per Assalonne".
3 And for the entire army that day, victory was turned to mourning, the troops having learnt that the kingwas grieving for his son.	3 La vittoria in quel giorno si cambiò in lutto per tutto il popolo, perché il popolo sentì dire in quel giorno: "Il re è molto afflitto a causa del figlio".
4 And that day the troops came furtively back into town, like troops creeping shamefacedly away whendeserting in battle.	4 Il popolo in quel giorno rientrò in città furtivamente, come avrebbe fatto gente vergognosa per essere fuggita in battaglia.
5 The king had covered his face and kept crying aloud, 'My son Absalom! Oh, Absalom my son, myson!'	5 Il re si era coperta la faccia e gridava a gran voce: "Figlio mio Assalonne, Assalonne figlio mio, figlio mio!".
6 Joab went inside to the king and said, 'Today you have made al your servants feel ashamed-today,when they have saved your life, the lives of your sons and daughters, the lives of your wives and the lives ofyour concubines!-because you love those who hate you and hate those who love you.	6 Allora Ioab entrò in casa del re e disse: "Tu copri oggi di rossore il volto di tutta la tua gente, che in questo giorno ha salvato la vita a te, ai tuoi figli e alle tue figlie, alle tue mogli e alle tue concubine,
7 Today you have made it plain that commanders and soldiers mean nothing to you -- for today I cansee that you would be content if we were all dead, provided that Absalom was alive!	7 perché mostri di amare quelli che ti odiano e di odiare quelli che ti amano. Infatti oggi tu mostri chiaramente che capi e ministri per te non contano nulla; ora io ho capito che, se Assalonne fosse vivo e noi fossimo quest'oggi tutti morti, allora sarebbe una cosa giusta ai tuoi occhi.
8 Now get up, come out and reassure your soldiers; for if you do not come out, I swear by Yahweh, notone man wil stay with you tonight; and this will be a worse misfortune for you than anything that has happenedto you from your youth until now!'	8 Ora dunque alzati, esci e parla al cuore della tua gente; perché io giuro per il Signore che, se non esci, neppure un uomo resterà con te questa notte; questa sarebbe per te la peggiore sventura di tutte quelle che ti sono cadute addosso dalla tua giovinezza fino ad oggi".
9 The king got up and took his seat at the gate. An announcement was made to the whole army: 'Theking is sitting at the gate.' And the whole army assembled in front of the king.	9 Allora il re si alzò e si sedette sulla porta; fu dato quest'annunzio a tutto il popolo: "Ecco il re sta seduto alla porta". E tutto il popolo venne alla presenza del re. Gli Israeliti erano fuggiti ognuno alla sua tenda.
10 Israel had fled, dispersing to their homes. Throughout the tribes of Israel al was dissension and people began saying, 'The king, having freed us from the clutches of our enemies, having saved us from theclutches of the Philistines, has himself had to flee the country to escape from Absalom;	10 In tutte le tribù d'Israele tutto il popolo stava discutendo e diceva: "Il re ci ha liberati dalle mani dei nostri nemici e ci ha salvati dalle mani dei Filistei; ora è dovuto fuggire dal paese a causa di Assalonne.
11 and now Absalom, whom we had anointed to reign over us, has died in battle. Why does no onesuggest that the king should be brought back?'What was being said throughout Israel reached the king.	11 Ma quanto ad Assalonne, che noi avevamo consacrato perché regnasse su di noi, è morto in battaglia. Ora perché non cercate di far tornare il re?".
12 King David then sent word to the priests Zadok and Abiathar, 'Say to the elders of Judah, "Whyshould you be the last to bring the king home?	12 Ciò che si diceva in tutto Israele era giunto a conoscenza del re. Il re Davide mandò a dire ai sacerdoti Zadòk ed Ebiatàr: "Riferite agli anziani di Giuda: Perché volete essere gli ultimi a far tornare il re alla sua casa?
13 You are my brothers, you are my own flesh and bone: why should you be the last to bring the kingback?"	13 Voi siete mio osso e mia carne e perché dunque sareste gli ultimi a far tornare il re?
14 And say to Amasa, "Are you not my own flesh and bone? May God bring unnameable il s on me andworse il s, too, if you do not become my permanent army commander instead of Joab!" '	14 Dite ad Amasà: Non sei forse mio osso e mia carne? Dio mi faccia questo e mi aggiunga quest'altro, se tu non diventerai davanti a me capo dell'esercito per sempre al posto di Ioab!".
15 Thus he rallied the hearts of the men of Judah to a man and, as a result, they sent word to the king,'Come back, you and al who serve you.'	15 Così piegò il cuore di tutti gli uomini di Giuda, come se fosse stato il cuore di un sol uomo; essi mandarono a dire al re: "Ritorna tu e tutti i tuoi ministri".
16 So the king started home and reached the Jordan. Judah, coming to meet the king to escort himacross the Jordan, had arrived at Gilgal.	16 Il re dunque tornò e giunse al Giordano; quelli di Giuda vennero a Gàlgala per andare incontro al re e per fargli passare il Giordano.
17 Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite of Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet KingDavid.	17 Simeì, figlio di Ghera, Beniaminita, che era di Bacurìm, si affrettò a scendere con gli uomini di Giuda incontro al re Davide.
18 With him were a thousand men from Benjamin. Ziba, servant of the House of Saul, with his fifteensons and twenty servants, arrived at the Jordan before the king	18 Aveva con sé mille uomini di Beniamino. Zibà, il servo della casa di Saul, i suoi quindici figli con lui e i suoi venti servi si erano precipitati al Giordano prima del re
19 and worked manful y ferrying the king's family across and doing whatever he required. While the kingwas crossing the Jordan, Shimei son of Gera fel at the king's feet	19 e avevano servito per far passare la famiglia del re e per fare quanto a lui sarebbe piaciuto. Intanto Simeì, figlio di Ghera, si gettò ai piedi del re nel momento in cui passava il Giordano
20 and said to the king, 'I hope my lord does not regard me as guilty of a crime! Forget about the wrongyour servant did on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. Let my lord not hold my guilt against me.	20 e disse al re: "Il mio signore non tenga conto della mia colpa! Non ricordarti di quanto il tuo servo ha commesso quando il re mio signore è uscito da Gerusalemme; il re non lo conservi nella sua mente!
21 For your servant is aware of having sinned, and that is why I have come today -- the first member ofthe whole House of Joseph to come down to meet my lord the king.'	21 Perché il tuo servo riconosce di aver peccato ed ecco, oggi, primo di tutta la casa di Giuseppe, sono sceso incontro al re mio signore".
22 At this, Abishai son of Zeruiah spoke up and said, 'Does Shimei not deserve death for having cursedYahweh's anointed?'	22 Ma Abisài figlio di Zeruià, disse: "Non dovrà forse essere messo a morte Simeì perché ha maledetto il consacrato del Signore?".
23 To which David replied, 'What concern is my business to you, sons of Zeruiah, that you shouldoppose my wishes today? Could anyone be put to death in Israel today? Today I know for sure that I am king ofIsrael?'	23 Davide disse: "Che ho io in comune con voi, o figli di Zeruià, che vi mostriate oggi miei avversari? Si può mettere a morte oggi qualcuno in Israele? Non so dunque che oggi divento re di Israele?".
24 'Your life is spared,' the king said. And the king gave him his oath.	24 Il re disse a Simeì: "Tu non morirai!". E il re glielo giurò.
25 Meribbaal son of Saul also went down to meet the king. He had not cared for his feet or hands, hehad not trimmed his moustache or washed his clothes from the day of the king's departure til the day of hispeaceful return.	25 Anche Merib-Bàal nipote di Saul scese incontro al re. Non si era curato i piedi e le mani, né la barba intorno alle labbra e non aveva lavato le vesti dal giorno in cui il re era partito a quello in cui tornava in pace.
26 When he arrived from Jerusalem to greet the king, the king asked him, 'Why did you not come withme, Meribbaal?'	26 Quando giunse da Gerusalemme incontro al re, il re gli disse: "Perché non sei venuto con me, Merib-Bàal?".
27 'My lord king,' he replied, 'my retainer deceived me. Your servant said to him, "Saddle the donkey forme to ride, so that I can go with the king," your servant being lame.	27 Egli rispose: "Re, mio signore, il mio servo mi ha ingannato! Il tuo servo aveva detto: Io mi farò sellare l'asino, monterò e andrò con il re, perché il tuo servo è zoppo.
28 He has slandered your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king, however, is like the Angel ofGod, so do as you think right.	28 Ma egli ha calunniato il tuo servo presso il re mio signore. Però il re mio signore è come un angelo di Dio; fa' dunque ciò che sembrerà bene ai tuoi occhi.
29 My father's entire family deserved no better than death from my lord the king, and yet you admittedyour servant to the ranks of those who eat at your table. What right have I to make any further appeal to theking?'	29 Perché tutti quelli della casa di mio padre non avevano meritato dal re mio signore altro che la morte; ma tu avevi posto il tuo servo fra quelli che mangiano alla tua tavola. E che diritto avrei ancora di implorare presso il re?".
30 The king said, 'You need say no more. I rule that you and Ziba divide the property between you.'	30 Il re gli disse: "Non occorre che tu aggiunga altre parole. Ho deciso: tu e Zibà vi dividerete i campi".
31 'Let him take it al ,' Meribbaal said to the king, 'since my lord the king has come back home in peace!'	31 Merib-Bàal rispose al re: "Se li prenda pure tutti lui, dato che ormai il re mio signore è tornato in pace a casa!".
32 Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim and accompanied the king towards the Jordan,intending to take leave of him at the Jordan.	32 Barzillài il Galaadita era sceso da Roghelìm e aveva passato il Giordano con il re, per congedarsi da lui presso il Giordano.
33 Barzillai was a man of great age; he was eighty years old. He had kept the king in provisions duringhis stay at Mahanaim, being a very wealthy man.	33 Barzillài era molto vecchio: aveva ottant'anni. Aveva fornito i viveri al re mentre questi si trovava a Macanàim, perché era un uomo molto facoltoso.
34 'Come with me', the king said to Barzil ai, 'and I will provide for you at my side in Jerusalem.'	34 Il re disse a Barzillài: "Vieni con me; io provvederò al tuo sostentamento presso di me, a Gerusalemme".
35 Barzillai replied to the king, 'How many years have I left to live, for me to go up to Jerusalem with theking?	35 Ma Barzillài rispose al re: "Quanti sono gli anni che mi restano da vivere, perché io salga con il re a Gerusalemme?
36 I am now eighty years old; can I tel the good from the bad? Has your servant any taste for his foodand drink? Can I stil hear the voices of men and women singers? Why should your servant be a further burdento my lord the king?	36 Io ho ora ottant'anni; posso forse ancora distinguere ciò che è buono da ciò che è cattivo? Può il tuo servo gustare ancora ciò che mangia e ciò che beve? Posso udire ancora la voce dei cantori e delle cantanti? E perché allora il tuo servo dovrebbe essere di peso al re mio signore?
37 Your servant will go a little way across the Jordan with the king; but why should the king reward meso generously for that?	37 Solo per poco tempo il tuo servo verrà con il re oltre il Giordano; perché il re dovrebbe darmi una tale ricompensa?
38 Please allow your servant to go home again, so that I can die in my own town near the grave of myfather and mother. But here is your servant Chimham; let him go with my lord the king; treat him as you thinkright.'	38 Lascia che il tuo servo torni indietro e che io possa morire nella mia città presso la tomba di mio padre e di mia madre. Ecco qui mio figlio, il tuo servo Chimàm; venga lui con il re mio signore; fa' per lui quello che ti piacerà".
39 The king said, 'Let Chimham come along with me then; I shall do whatever you wish for him, andanything you request I shal do for your sake.'	39 Il re rispose: "Venga dunque con me Chimàm e io farò per lui quello che a te piacerà; farò per te quello che desidererai da me".
40 The people then al crossed the Jordan, and the king, having crossed, kissed Barzil ai and blessedhim, and the latter went home.	40 Poi tutto il popolo passò il Giordano; il re l'aveva già passato. Allora il re baciò Barzillài e lo benedisse; quegli tornò a casa.
41 The king went on to Gilgal and Chimham went with him. Al the people of Judah accompanied theking, and also half the people of Israel.	41 Così il re passò verso Gàlgala e Chimàm era venuto con lui. Tutta la gente di Giuda e anche metà della gente d'Israele aveva fatto passare il re.
42 Al the men of Israel then came to the king. 'Why', they asked the king, 'have our brothers, the men ofJudah, carried you off and brought the king and his family across the Jordan, and al David's men with him?'	42 Allora tutti gli Israeliti vennero dal re e gli dissero: "Perché i nostri fratelli, gli uomini di Giuda, ti hanno portato via di nascosto e hanno fatto passare il Giordano al re, alla sua famiglia e a tutta la gente di Davide?".
43 Al the men of Judah retorted to the men of Israel, 'Because the king is more closely related to us.Why do you take offence at this? Have we been eating at the king's expense? Have we taken any position forourselves?'	43 Tutti gli uomini di Giuda risposero agli Israeliti: "Il re è un nostro parente stretto; perché vi adirate per questo? Abbiamo forse mangiato a spese del re o ci fu portata qualche porzione?".
44 The men of Israel replied to the men of Judah, 'We have ten shares in the king and, what is more, weare your elder brothers, so why have you slighted us? Were we not the first to suggest bringing back our king?'The men of Judah's words were even more intemperate than those of the men of Israel.	44 Gli Israeliti replicarono agli uomini di Giuda: "Dieci parti mi spettano sul re; inoltre sono io il primogenito e non tu; perché mi hai disprezzato? Non sono forse stato il primo a proporre di far tornare il re?". Ma il parlare degli uomini di Giuda fu più violento di quello degli Israeliti.
