Genesis 30

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 Rachel, seeing that she herself gave Jacob no children, became jealous of her sister. And she said toJacob, 'Give me children, or I shal die!'	1 Rachele, vedendo che non le era concesso di procreare figli a Giacobbe, divenne gelosa della sorella e disse a Giacobbe: "Dammi dei figli, se no io muoio!".
2 This made Jacob angry with Rachel, and he retorted, 'Am I in the position of God, who has denied youmotherhood?'	2 Giacobbe s'irritò contro Rachele e disse: "Tengo forse io il posto di Dio, il quale ti ha negato il frutto del grembo?".
3 So she said, 'Here is my slave-girl, Bilhah. Sleep with her and let her give birth on my knees; throughher, then, I too shal have children!'	3 Allora essa rispose: "Ecco la mia serva Bila: unisciti a lei, così che partorisca sulle mie ginocchia e abbia anch'io una mia prole per mezzo di lei".
4 So she gave him her slave-girl Bilhah as concubine. Jacob slept with her,	4 Così essa gli diede in moglie la propria schiava Bila e Giacobbe si unì a lei.
5 and Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son by Jacob.	5 Bila concepì e partorì a Giacobbe un figlio.
6 Then Rachel said, 'God has done me justice; yes, he has heard my prayer and given me a son.'Accordingly she named him Dan.	6 Rachele disse: "Dio mi ha fatto giustizia e ha anche ascoltato la mia voce, dandomi un figlio". Per questo essa lo chiamò Dan.
7 Again Rachel's slave-girl Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	7 Poi Bila, la schiava di Rachele, concepì ancora e partorì a Giacobbe un secondo figlio.
8 Then Rachel said, 'I have fought a fateful battle with my sister, and I have won!' So she named himNaphtali.	8 Rachele disse: "Ho sostenuto contro mia sorella lotte difficili e ho vinto!". Perciò lo chiamò Nèftali.
9 Now Leah, seeing that she had ceased to bear children, took her slave-girl Zilpah and gave her toJacob as concubine.	9 Allora Lia, vedendo che aveva cessato di aver figli, prese la propria schiava Zilpa e la diede in moglie e Giacobbe.
10 So Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a son by Jacob.	10 Zilpa, la schiava di Lia, partorì a Giacobbe un figlio.
11 Then Leah exclaimed, 'What good fortune!' So she named him Gad.	11 Lia disse: "Per fortuna!" e lo chiamò Gad.
12 Leah's slave-girl Zilpah gave birth to a second son by Jacob.	12 Poi Zilpa, la schiava di Lia, partorì un secondo figlio a Giacobbe.
13 Then Leah said, 'What blessedness! Women will cal me blessed!' So she named him Asher.	13 Lia disse: "Per mia felicità! Perché le donne mi diranno felice". Perciò lo chiamò Aser.
14 One day, at the time of the wheat harvest, Reuben found some mandrakes in the field and broughtthem to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, 'Please give me some of your son's mandrakes.'	14 Al tempo della mietitura del grano, Ruben uscì e trovò mandragore, che portò alla madre Lia. Rachele disse a Lia: "Dammi un po' delle mandragore di tuo figlio".
15 Leah replied, 'Is it not enough to have taken my husband, without your taking my son's mandrakesas well?' So Rachel said, 'Very wel , he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes.'	15 Ma Lia rispose: "È forse poco che tu mi abbia portato via il marito perché voglia portar via anche le mandragore di mio figlio?". Riprese Rachele: "Ebbene, si corichi pure con te questa notte, in cambio delle mandragore di tuo figlio".
16 When Jacob came back from the fields that night, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You mustcome to me, for I have hired you at the price of my son's mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night.	16 Alla sera, quando Giacobbe arrivò dalla campagna, Lia gli uscì incontro e gli disse: "Da me devi venire, perché io ho pagato il diritto di averti con le mandragore di mio figlio". Così egli si coricò con lei quella notte.
17 God heard Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son by Jacob.	17 Il Signore esaudì Lia, la quale concepì e partorì a Giacobbe un quinto figlio.
18 Then Leah said, 'God has given me my reward for giving my slave-girl to my husband.' So shenamed him Issachar.	18 Lia disse: "Dio mi ha dato il mio salario, per avere io dato la mia schiava a mio marito". Perciò lo chiamò Ìssacar.
19 Again Leah conceived and gave birth to a sixth son by Jacob,	19 Poi Lia concepì e partorì ancora un sesto figlio a Giacobbe.
20 and said, 'God has given me a fine gift; now my husband wil bring me presents, for I have borne himsix sons.' So she named him Zebulun.	20 Lia disse: "Dio mi ha fatto un bel regalo: questa volta mio marito mi preferirà, perché gli ho partorito sei figli". Perciò lo chiamò Zàbulon.
21 Later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.	21 In seguito partorì una figlia e la chiamò Dina.
22 Then God remembered Rachel; he heard her and opened her womb.	22 Poi Dio si ricordò anche di Rachele; Dio la esaudì e la rese feconda.
23 She conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, 'God has taken away my disgrace!'	23 Essa concepì e partorì un figlio e disse: "Dio ha tolto il mio disonore".
24 She named him Joseph, saying, 'May Yahweh add another son for me!'	24 E lo chiamò Giuseppe dicendo: "Il Signore mi aggiunga un altro figlio!".
25 When Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, 'Release me and let me go home tomy own country.	25 Dopo che Rachele ebbe partorito Giuseppe, Giacobbe disse a Làbano: "Lasciami andare e tornare a casa mia, nel mio paese.
26 Give me my wives for whom I have worked for you, and my children, and let me go. You are welaware how long I have worked for you.'	26 Dammi le mogli, per le quali ti ho servito, e i miei bambini perché possa partire: tu conosci il servizio che ti ho prestato".
27 Laban replied, 'If I have done what pleases you . . . I have learnt by divination that Yahweh hasblessed me because of you.	27 Gli disse Làbano: "Se ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi... Per divinazione ho saputo che il Signore mi ha benedetto per causa tua".
28 So name your wages,' he added, 'and I wil pay.'	28 E aggiunse: "Fissami il tuo salario e te lo darò".
29 He replied, 'You know how hard I have worked for you, and how your stock has fared in my charge.	29 Gli rispose: "Tu stesso sai come ti ho servito e quanti sono diventati i tuoi averi per opera mia.
30 The little you had before I came has increased enormously, and Yahweh has blessed you wherever Ihave been. When am I to provide for my own household too?'	30 Perché il poco che avevi prima della mia venuta è cresciuto oltre misura e il Signore ti ha benedetto sui miei passi. Ma ora, quando lavorerò anch'io per la mia casa?".
31 Laban said, 'How much am I to pay you?' Jacob replied, 'You need not pay me anything. I shallchange my mind and go on tending your flock, if you do this one thing for me.	31 Riprese Làbano: "Che ti devo dare?". Giacobbe rispose: "Non mi devi nulla; se tu farai per me quanto ti dico, ritornerò a pascolare il tuo gregge e a custodirlo.
32 'Go through your entire flock today and remove every black animal among the sheep, and everyspeckled or spotted one among the goats. These wil be my wages,	32 Oggi passerò fra tutto il tuo bestiame; metti da parte ogni capo di colore scuro tra le pecore e ogni capo chiazzato e punteggiato tra le capre: sarà il mio salario.
33 and my uprightness wil answer for me later: when you come to check my wages, every goat I havethat is not speckled or spotted, and every sheep that is not black will count as stolen by me.'	33 In futuro la mia stessa onestà risponderà per me; quando verrai a verificare il mio salario, ogni capo che non sarà punteggiato o chiazzato tra le capre e di colore scuro tra le pecore, se si troverà presso di me, sarà come rubato".
34 Laban replied, 'Good, just as you say.'	34 Làbano disse: "Bene, sia come tu hai detto!".
35 That same day he removed the striped and speckled he-goats and all the spotted and speckled she-goats, every one that had white on it, and al the black sheep, and entrusted these to his sons.	35 In quel giorno mise da parte i capri striati e chiazzati e tutte le capre punteggiate e chiazzate, ogni capo che aveva del bianco e ogni capo di colore scuro tra le pecore. Li affidò ai suoi figli
36 Then he put a three days' journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob grazed the rest ofLaban's flock.	36 e stabilì una distanza di tre giorni di cammino tra sé e Giacobbe, mentre Giacobbe pascolava l'altro bestiame di Làbano.
37 Jacob then got fresh shoots from poplar, almond and plane trees, and peeled them in white strips,laying bare the white part of the shoots.	37 Ma Giacobbe prese rami freschi di pioppo, di mandorlo e di platano, ne intagliò la corteccia a strisce bianche, mettendo a nudo il bianco dei rami.
38 He set up the shoots he had peeled in front of the animals, in the troughs, in the water-holes wherethe animals came to drink. 39 the goats thus mated in front of the shoots and so the goats produced striped, spotted and speckledyoung.	39 Così le bestie si accoppiarono di fronte ai rami e le capre figliarono capretti striati, punteggiati e chiazzati.
40 The ewes, on the other hand, Jacob kept apart and made these face whatever was striped or blackin Laban's flock. Thus he built up droves of his own which he did not put with Laban's flocks.	40 Quanto alle pecore, Giacobbe le separò e fece sì che le bestie avessero davanti a sé gli animali striati e tutti quelli di colore scuro del gregge di Làbano. E i branchi che si era così costituiti per conto suo, non li mise insieme al gregge di Làbano.
41 Furthermore, whenever the sturdier animals were mating, Jacob put the shoots where the animalscould see them, in the troughs, so that they would mate in front of the shoots.	41 Ogni qualvolta si accoppiavano bestie robuste, Giacobbe metteva i rami nei truogoli in vista delle bestie, per farle concepire davanti ai rami.
42 But when the animals were feeble, he did not put them there; so Laban got the feeble, and Jacob thesturdy.	42 Quando invece le bestie erano deboli, non li metteva. Così i capi di bestiame deboli erano per Làbano e quelli robusti per Giacobbe.
43 Thus the man grew extremely rich, and came to own large flocks, men and women slaves, camelsand donkeys.	43 Egli si arricchì oltre misura e possedette greggi in grande quantità, schiave e schiavi, cammelli e asini.
