NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 [For the choirmaster For Jeduthun Psalm Of David] I said, 'I wil watch how I behave so that I do notsin by my tongue. I will keep a muzzle on my mouth as long as any sinner is near.'1 'Al maestro del coro, Iditun. Salmo. Di Davide.'

2 I stayed dumb, silent, speechless, but the sinner's prosperity redoubled my torment.2 Ho detto: "Veglierò sulla mia condotta
per non peccare con la mia lingua;
porrò un freno alla mia bocca
mentre l'empio mi sta dinanzi".
3 My heart had been smouldering within me, but at the thought of this it flared up and the words camebursting out,3 Sono rimasto quieto in silenzio: tacevo privo di bene,
la sua fortuna ha esasperato il mio dolore.
4 'Yahweh, let me know my fate, how much longer I have to live. Show me just how frail I am.4 Ardeva il cuore nel mio petto,
al ripensarci è divampato il fuoco;
allora ho parlato:
5 'Look, you have given me but a hand's breadth or two of life, the length of my life is as nothing to you.Every human being that stands on earth is a mere puff of wind,5 "Rivelami, Signore, la mia fine;
quale sia la misura dei miei giorni
e saprò quanto è breve la mia vita".

6 every human being that walks only a shadow; a mere puff of wind is the wealth stored away -- noknowing who wil profit from it.'6 Vedi, in pochi palmi hai misurato i miei giorni
e la mia esistenza davanti a te è un nulla.
Solo un soffio è ogni uomo che vive,
7 So now, Lord, what am I to hope for? My hope is in you.7 come ombra è l'uomo che passa;
solo un soffio che si agita,
accumula ricchezze e non sa chi le raccolga.

8 Save me from al my sins, do not make me the butt of fools.8 Ora, che attendo, Signore?
In te la mia speranza.
9 I keep silence, I speak no more since you yourself have been at work.9 Liberami da tutte le mie colpe,
non rendermi scherno dello stolto.
10 Take your scourge away from me. I am worn out by the blows you deal me.10 Sto in silenzio, non apro bocca,
perché sei tu che agisci.

11 You correct human beings by punishing sin, like a moth you eat away all their desires -- a humanbeing is a mere puff of wind.11 Allontana da me i tuoi colpi:
sono distrutto sotto il peso della tua mano.
12 Yahweh, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for help, do not remain deaf to my weeping. For I am astranger in your house, a nomad like al my ancestors.12 Castigando il suo peccato tu correggi l'uomo,
corrodi come tarlo i suoi tesori.
Ogni uomo non è che un soffio.

13 Turn away your gaze that I may breathe freely before I depart and am no more!13 Ascolta la mia preghiera, Signore,
porgi l'orecchio al mio grido,
non essere sordo alle mie lacrime,
poiché io sono un forestiero,
uno straniero come tutti i miei padri.
14 Distogli il tuo sguardo, che io respiri,
prima che me ne vada e più non sia.
