1 Samuel 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges of Israel.	1 Quando Samuele fu vecchio, stabilì giudici di Israele i suoi figli.
2 His eldest son was cal ed Joel and his second one, Abijah; they were judges at Beersheba.	2 Il primogenito si chiamava Ioèl, il secondogenito Abià; esercitavano l'ufficio di giudici a Bersabea.
3 His sons did not fol ow his example but, seduced by the love of money, took bribes and gave biasedverdicts.	3 I figli di lui però non camminavano sulle sue orme, perché deviavano dietro il lucro, accettavano regali e sovvertivano il giudizio.
4 The elders of Israel all assembled, went back to Samuel at Ramah, and said,	4 Si radunarono allora tutti gli anziani d'Israele e andarono da Samuele a Rama.
5 'Look, you are old, and your sons are not fol owing your example. So give us a king to judge us, like theother nations.'	5 Gli dissero: "Tu ormai sei vecchio e i tuoi figli non ricalcano le tue orme. Ora stabilisci per noi un re che ci governi, come avviene per tutti i popoli".
6 Samuel thought that it was wrong of them to say, 'Let us have a king to judge us,' so he prayed toYahweh.	6 Agli occhi di Samuele era cattiva la proposta perché avevano detto: "Dacci un re che ci governi". Perciò Samuele pregò il Signore.
7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Obey the voice of the people in al that they say to you: it is not you theyhave rejected	7 Il Signore rispose a Samuele: "Ascolta la voce del popolo per quanto ti ha detto, perché costoro non hanno rigettato te, ma hanno rigettato me, perché io non regni più su di essi.
8 but me, not wishing me to reign over them any more. They are now doing to you exactly what they havedone to me since the day I brought them out of Egypt until now, deserting me and serving other gods.	8 Come si sono comportati dal giorno in cui li ho fatti uscire dall'Egitto fino ad oggi, abbandonando me per seguire altri dèi, così intendono fare a te.
9 So, do what they ask; only, you must give them a solemn warning, and must tell them what the kingwho is to reign over them will do.'	9 Ascolta pure la loro richiesta, però annunzia loro chiaramente le pretese del re che regnerà su di loro".
10 Everything that Yahweh had said, Samuel then repeated to the people who were asking him for aking.	10 Samuele riferì tutte le parole del Signore al popolo che gli aveva chiesto un re.
11 He said, 'This is what the king who is to reign over you wil do. He wil take your sons and direct themto his chariotry and cavalry, and they wil run in front of his chariot.	11 Disse loro: "Queste saranno le pretese del re che regnerà su di voi: prenderà i vostri figli per destinarli ai suoi carri e ai suoi cavalli, li farà correre davanti al suo cocchio,
12 He wil use them as leaders of a thousand and leaders of fifty; he wil make them plough his fields andgather in his harvest and make his weapons of war and the gear for his chariots.	12 li farà capi di migliaia e capi di cinquantine; li costringerà ad arare i suoi campi, a mietere le sue messi, ad apprestargli armi per le sue battaglie e attrezzature per i suoi carri.
13 He wil take your daughters as perfumers, cooks and bakers.	13 Prenderà anche le vostre figlie per farle sue profumiere e cuoche e fornaie.
14 He wil take the best of your fields, your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his officials.	14 Si farà consegnare ancora i vostri campi, le vostre vigne, i vostri oliveti più belli e li regalerà ai suoi ministri.
15 He wil tithe your crops and vineyards to provide for his courtiers and his officials.	15 Sulle vostre sementi e sulle vostre vigne prenderà le decime e le darà ai suoi consiglieri e ai suoi ministri.
16 He wil take the best of your servants, men and women, of your oxen and your donkeys, and makethem work for him.	16 Vi sequestrerà gli schiavi e le schiave, i vostri armenti migliori e i vostri asini e li adopererà nei suoi lavori.
17 He wil tithe your flocks, and you yourselves wil become his slaves.	17 Metterà la decima sui vostri greggi e voi stessi diventerete suoi schiavi.
18 When that day comes, you wil cry aloud because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, but onthat day Yahweh wil not hear you.'	18 Allora griderete a causa del re che avrete voluto eleggere, ma il Signore non vi ascolterà".
19 The people, however, refused to listen to Samuel. They said, 'No! We are determined to have a king,	19 Il popolo non diede retta a Samuele e rifiutò di ascoltare la sua voce, ma gridò: "No, ci sia un re su di noi.
20 so that we can be like the other nations, with our own king to rule us and lead us and fight our battles.'	20 Saremo anche noi come tutti i popoli; il nostro re ci farà da giudice, uscirà alla nostra testa e combatterà le nostre battaglie".
21 Samuel listened to al that the people had to say and repeated it in Yahweh's ear.	21 Samuele ascoltò tutti i discorsi del popolo e li riferì all'orecchio del Signore.
22 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'Do as they ask and give them a king.' Samuel then said to theIsraelites, 'Go home, each of you, to his own town.'	22 Rispose il Signore a Samuele: "Ascoltali; regni pure un re su di loro". Samuele disse agli Israeliti: "Ciascuno torni alla sua città!".
