NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 Now after Joshua's death, the Israelites consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Which of us is to march on theCanaanites first, to make war on them?'	1 Dopo la morte di Giosuè, gli Israeliti consultarono il Signore dicendo: "Chi di noi andrà per primo a combattere contro i Cananei?".
2 And Yahweh replied, 'Judah is to march on them first; I am delivering the country into his hands.'	2 Il Signore rispose: "Andrà Giuda: ecco, ho messo il paese nelle sue mani".
3 Judah then said to his brother Simeon, 'March with me into the territory al otted to me; we shall makewar on the Canaanites, and then I in my turn shal march into your territory with you.' And Simeon marched withhim.	3 Allora Giuda disse a Simeone suo fratello: "Vieni con me nel paese, che mi è toccato in sorte, e combattiamo contro i Cananei; poi anch'io verrò con te in quello che ti è toccato in sorte". Simeone andò con lui.
4 So Judah marched on them, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, andthey defeated them at Bezek-ten thousand of them!	4 Giuda dunque si mosse e il Signore mise nelle loro mani i Cananei e i Perizziti; sconfissero a Bezek diecimila uomini.
5 At Bezek they came upon Adoni-Bezek; they joined battle with him and defeated the Canaanites andPerizzites.	5 Incontrato Adoni-Bezek a Bezek, l'attaccarono e sconfissero i Cananei e i Perizziti.
6 Adoni-Bezek took to flight, but they chased and captured him and cut off his thumbs and big toes.	6 Adoni-Bezek fuggì, ma essi lo inseguirono, lo catturarono e gli amputarono i pollici delle mani e dei piedi.
7 Adoni-Bezek said, 'Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up the crumbsunder my table. As I did, God does to me.' He was taken to Jerusalem, and there he died.	7 Adoni-Bezek disse: "Settanta re con i pollici delle mani e dei piedi amputati, raccattavano gli avanzi sotto la mia tavola. 8 (The sons of Judah attacked Jerusalem and took it: they put its people to the sword and set fire to thecity.)	8 I figli di Giuda attaccarono Gerusalemme e la presero; la passarono a fil di spada e l'abbandonarono alle fiamme.
9 After this the sons of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites who were living in the highlands,the Negeb and the lowlands.	9 Poi andarono a combattere contro i Cananei che abitavano le montagne, il Negheb e la Sefela.
10 Judah next marched on the Canaanites living in Hebron -- the name of Hebron in olden days wasKiriath-Arba -- and beat Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.	10 Giuda marciò contro i Cananei che abitavano a Ebron, che prima si chiamava Kiriat-Arba, e sconfisse Sesai, Achiman e Talmai.
11 From there, he marched on the inhabitants of Debir -- the name of Debir in olden days was Kiriath-Sepher.	11 Di là andò contro gli abitanti di Debir, che prima si chiamava Kiriat-Sefer.
12 Caleb said, 'To the man who conquers and captures Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'	12 Allora Caleb disse: "A chi batterà Kiriat-Sefer e la prenderà io darò in moglie Acsa mia figlia".
13 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, who gave him hisdaughter Achsah as wife.	13 La prese Otniel, figlio di Kenaz, fratello minore di Caleb, e questi gli diede in moglie sua figlia Acsa.
14 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'	14 Ora, mentre andava dal marito, egli la indusse a chiedere un campo a suo padre. Essa scese dall'asino e Caleb le disse: "Che hai?".
15 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springs ofwater, too!' 16 The sons of Hobab the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, marched up with the sons of Judah from theCity of Palm Trees into the desert of Judah lying in the Negeb of Arad, where they went and settled among thepeople.	16 I figli del suocero di Mosè, il Kenita, salirono dalla città delle Palme con i figli di Giuda nel deserto di Giuda, a mezzogiorno di Arad; andarono dunque e si stabilirono in mezzo al popolo.
17 Judah then set out with his brother Simeon. They beat the Canaanites who lived in Zephath anddelivered it over to the curse of destruction; hence the town was given the name of Hormah.	17 Poi Giuda marciò con Simeone suo fratello: sconfissero i Cananei che abitavano in Sefat, votarono allo sterminio la città, che fu chiamata Corma.
18 Judah then captured Gaza and its territory, Ashkelon and its territory, Ekron and its territory.AndYahweh was with Judah, who made himself master of the highlands;	18 Giuda prese anche Gaza con il suo territorio, Ascalon con il suo territorio ed Ekron con il suo territorio.
19 he could not, however, dispossess the inhabitants of the plain, since they had iron chariots.	19 Il Signore fu con Giuda, che scacciò gli abitanti delle montagne, ma non poté espellere gli abitanti della pianura, perché muniti di carri di ferro.
20 As Moses had directed, Hebron was given to Caleb, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of it.	20 Come Mosè aveva ordinato, Ebron fu data a Caleb, che da essa scacciò i tre figli di Anak.
21 As regards the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not dispossess them, and theJebusites have been living in Jerusalem with the sons of Benjamin ever since.	21 I figli di Beniamino non scacciarono i Gebusei che abitavano Gerusalemme, perciò i Gebusei abitano con i figli di Beniamino in Gerusalemme fino ad oggi.
22 Similarly, the House of Joseph marched on Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.	22 Anche la casa di Giuseppe marciò contro Betel e il Signore fu con loro.
23 The House of Joseph made a reconnaissance of Bethel. (In olden days, the name of the town wasLuz.)	23 La casa di Giuseppe mandò a esplorare Betel, città che prima si chiamava Luz.
24 The scouts saw a man coming out of the town and said to him, 'Show us how to get into the town andwe shal show you faithful love.'	24 Gli esploratori videro un uomo che usciva dalla città e gli dissero: "Insegnaci una via di accesso alla città e noi ti faremo grazia".
25 And when he had shown them a way into the town, they put the town to the sword but let the man andhis whole clan go.	25 Egli insegnò loro la via di accesso alla città ed essi passarono la città a fil di spada, ma risparmiarono quell'uomo con tutta la sua famiglia.
26 The man went off to the country of the Hittites and built a town which he called Luz; and that has been its name ever since.	26 Quell'uomo andò nel paese degli Hittiti e vi edificò una città che chiamò Luz: questo è il suo nome fino ad oggi.
27 Manasseh did not dispossess Beth-Shean and its dependencies, nor Taanach and its dependencies,nor the inhabitants of Dor and its dependencies, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its dependencies, nor theinhabitants of Megiddo and its dependencies; in those parts the Canaanites held their ground.	27 Manàsse non scacciò gli abitanti di Beisan e delle sue dipendenze, né quelli di Taanach e delle sue dipendenze, né quelli di Dor e delle sue dipendenze, né quelli d'Ibleam e delle sue dipendenze, né quelli di Meghiddo e delle sue dipendenze; i Cananei continuarono ad abitare in quel paese.
28 But when the Israelites became stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour, althoughthey did not dispossess them.	28 Quando Israele divenne più forte, costrinse ai lavori forzati i Cananei, ma non li scacciò del tutto.
29 Nor did Ephraim dispossess the Canaanites living in Gezer; thus, the Canaanites went on living inGezer with him.	29 Nemmeno Efraim scacciò i Cananei, che abitavano a Ghezer, perciò i Cananei abitarono in Ghezer in mezzo ad Efraim.
30 Zebulun did not dispossess the inhabitants of Kitron or of Nahalol. The Canaanites lived on withZebulun but were subjected to forced labour.	30 Zàbulon non scacciò gli abitanti di Kitron, né gli abitanti di Naalol; i Cananei abitarono in mezzo a Zàbulon e furono ridotti in schiavitù.
31 Asher did not dispossess the inhabitants of Acco, nor those of Sidon, of Mahalab, of Achzib, of Helbah,of Aphek or of Rehob.	31 Aser non scacciò gli abitanti di Acco, né gli abitanti di Sidòne, né quelli di Aclab, di Aczib, di Elba, di Afik, di Recob;
32 So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the country, not having dispossessed them.	32 i figli di Aser si stabilirono in mezzo ai Cananei che abitavano il paese, perché non li avevano scacciati.
33 Naphtali did not dispossess the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh or of Beth-Anath; they settled among theCanaanite inhabitants of the country, but the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath were subjected toforced labour for them.	33 Nèftali non scacciò gli abitanti di Bet-Semes, né gli abitanti di Bet-Anat e si stabilì in mezzo ai Cananei che abitavano il paese; ma gli abitanti di Bet-Semes e di Bet-Anat furono da loro costretti ai lavori forzati.
34 The Amorites drove the Danites back into the highlands and would not let them come down into theplain.	34 Gli Amorrei respinsero i figli di Dan sulle montagne e non li lasciarono scendere nella pianura.
35 The Amorites held their ground at Har -- Heres and Shaalbim, but when the hand of the House ofJoseph grew heavier, they were subjected to forced labour. (	35 Gli Amorrei continuarono ad abitare Ar-Cheres, Aialon e Saalbim; ma la mano della casa di Giuseppe si aggravò su di loro e furono costretti ai lavori forzati.
36 The territory of the Edomites begins at the Ascent of Scorpions, runs to the Rock and continues onupwards.)	36 Il confine degli Amorrei si estendeva dalla salita di Akrabbim, da Sela in su.
