Joshua 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua and said,	1 Quando tutta la gente ebbe finito di attraversare il Giordano, il Signore disse a Giosuè:
2 'Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and give them this order,	2 "Sceglietevi dal popolo dodici uomini, un uomo per ogni tribù,
3 "Here, from mid-Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet were standing, take twelve stones; carrythem with you and set them down in the camp where you pass the night." '	3 e comandate loro: Prendetevi dodici pietre da qui, in mezzo al Giordano, dal luogo dove stanno immobili i piedi dei sacerdoti; trasportatele con voi e deponetele nel luogo, dove vi accamperete questa notte".
4 Joshua cal ed the twelve men whom he had selected from the Israelites, one man from each tribe,	4 Allora Giosuè convocò i dodici uomini, che aveva designati tra gli Israeliti, un uomo per ogni tribù,
5 and Joshua said to them, 'Go on ahead of the ark of Yahweh your God into mid-Jordan, and each ofyou take one stone on his shoulder, corresponding to the number of the tribes of Israel,	5 e disse loro: "Passate davanti all'arca del Signore vostro Dio in mezzo al Giordano e caricatevi sulle spalle ciascuno una pietra, secondo il numero delle tribù degli Israeliti,
6 to make this a sign among you; and when, in the future, your children ask you, "What do these stonesmean for you?"	6 perché diventino un segno in mezzo a voi. Quando domani i vostri figli vi chiederanno: Che significano per voi queste pietre?
7 you will then tell them, "The waters of the Jordan separated before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh;when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the river separated. These stones are an everlasting reminder of thisto the Israelites."	7 risponderete loro: Perché si divisero le acque del Giordano dinanzi all'arca dell'alleanza del Signore; mentre essa attraversava il Giordano, le acque del Giordano si divisero e queste pietre dovranno essere un memoriale per gli Israeliti, per sempre".
8 The Israelites did as Joshua ordered; they took twelve stones from mid-Jordan corresponding to thenumber of the tribes of Israel, as Yahweh had told Joshua; they carried them over to the camp and set themdown there.	8 Fecero dunque gli Israeliti come aveva comandato Giosuè, presero dodici pietre in mezzo al Giordano, secondo quanto aveva comandato il Signore a Giosuè, in base al numero delle tribù degli Israeliti, le trasportarono con sé verso l'accampamento e le deposero in quel luogo.
9 Joshua then erected twelve stones in mid-Jordan, on the spot where the feet of the priests carrying theark of the covenant had stood; and they are stil there today.	9 Giosuè fece collocare altre dodici pietre in mezzo al Giordano, nel luogo dove poggiavano i piedi dei sacerdoti che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza: esse si trovano là fino ad oggi.
10 The priests carrying the ark stood stil in mid-Jordan, until everything had been done that Yahweh hadordered Joshua to tel the people (in accordance with everything that Moses had ordered Joshua); and thepeople hurried across.	10 I sacerdoti che portavano l'arca si erano fermati in mezzo al Giordano, finché fosse eseguito ogni ordine che il Signore aveva comandato a Giosuè di comunicare al popolo, e secondo tutte le prescrizioni di Mosè a Giosuè. Il popolo dunque si affrettò a passare.
11 When the people had finished crossing, the ark of Yahweh then crossed, with the priests, to the headof the people.	11 Quando poi tutto il popolo ebbe terminato la traversata, passò l'arca del Signore e i sacerdoti, dinanzi al popolo.
12 The sons of Reuben, the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed in battle formation at thehead of the Israelites, as Moses had told them.	12 Passarono i figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse, ben armati, davanti agli Israeliti, secondo quanto aveva comandato loro Mosè;
13 Some forty thousand warriors in arms, they crossed in Yahweh's presence, ready for battle, towardsthe plain of Jericho.	13 circa quarantamila, armati per la guerra, passarono davanti al Signore per il combattimento verso le steppe di Gèrico.
14 That day, Yahweh made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, who respected him as they hadrespected Moses, as long as he lived.	14 In quel giorno il Signore glorificò Giosuè agli occhi di tutto Israele e lo temettero, come avevano temuto Mosè in tutti i giorni della sua vita.
15 Yahweh said to Joshua,	15 Disse allora il Signore a Giosuè:
16 'Order the priests carrying the ark of the Testimony to come up out of the Jordan.'	16 "Comanda ai sacerdoti che portano l'arca della testimonianza che salgano dal Giordano".
17 And Joshua gave the order to the priests, 'Come up, out of the Jordan!'	17 Giosuè comandò ai sacerdoti: "Salite dal Giordano".
18 Now, when the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of mid-Jordan, nosooner had the soles of the priests' feet touched solid ground, than the waters of the Jordan returned to their bedand ran on, in spate as before.	18 Non appena i sacerdoti, che portavano l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore, furono saliti dal Giordano, mentre le piante dei piedi dei sacerdoti raggiungevano l'asciutto, le acque del Giordano tornarono al loro posto e rifluirono come prima su tutta l'ampiezza delle loro sponde.
19 It was the tenth day of the first month when the people came up from the Jordan and made their campat Gilgal, on the eastern border of Jericho.	19 Il popolo salì dal Giordano il dieci del primo mese e si accampò in Gàlgala, dalla parte orientale di Gèrico.
20 As regards those twelve stones, which they had taken from the Jordan, Joshua set them up at Gilgal.	20 Quelle dodici pietre che avevano portate dal Giordano, Giosuè le eresse in Gàlgala.
21 He then said to the Israelites, 'When, in the future, your children ask their fathers, "What are thesestones?"	21 Si rivolse poi agli Israeliti: "Quando domani i vostri figli interrogheranno i loro padri: Che cosa sono queste pietre?,
22 you wil explain to your children, "Israel crossed this Jordan dry-shod.	22 farete sapere ai vostri figli: All'asciutto Israele ha attraversato questo Giordano,
23 For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan in front of you until you had crossed, just asYahweh your God did to the Sea of Reeds, which he dried up before us until we had crossed it;	23 poiché il Signore Dio vostro prosciugò le acque del Giordano dinanzi a voi, finché foste passati, come fece il Signore Dio vostro al Mare Rosso, che prosciugò davanti a noi finché non fummo passati;
24 so that al the peoples of the earth may know how mighty the hand of Yahweh is, and always stand inawe of Yahweh your God." '	24 perché tutti i popoli della terra sappiano quanto è forte la mano del Signore e temiate il Signore Dio vostro, per sempre".
