1 Thessalonians 5

1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 Riguardo poi ai tempi e ai momenti, fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva;
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 infatti voi ben sapete che come un ladro di notte, così verrà il giorno del Signore.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 E quando si dirà: "Pace e sicurezza", allora d'improvviso li colpirà la rovina, come le doglie una donna incinta; e nessuno scamperà.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, così che quel giorno possa sorprendervi come un ladro:
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 voi tutti infatti siete figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non siamo della notte, né delle tenebre.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Non dormiamo dunque come gli altri, ma restiamo svegli e siamo sobrii.
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Quelli che dormono, infatti, dormono di notte; e quelli che si ubriacano, sono ubriachi di notte.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Noi invece, che siamo del giorno, dobbiamo essere sobrii, 'rivestiti con la corazza' della fede e della carità e avendo come 'elmo' la speranza 'della salvezza'.
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Poiché Dio non ci ha destinati alla sua collera ma all'acquisto della salvezza per mezzo del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 il quale è morto per noi, perché, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Perciò confortatevi a vicenda edificandovi gli uni gli altri, come già fate.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Vi preghiamo poi, fratelli, di aver riguardo per quelli che faticano tra di voi, che vi sono preposti nel Signore e vi ammoniscono;
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 trattateli con molto rispetto e carità, a motivo del loro lavoro. Vivete in pace tra voi.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 Vi esortiamo, fratelli: correggete gli indisciplinati, confortate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, siate pazienti con tutti.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Guardatevi dal rendere male per male ad alcuno; ma cercate sempre il bene tra voi e con tutti.
16 Always be joyful;	16 State sempre lieti,
17 pray constantly;	17 pregate incessantemente,
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 in ogni cosa rendete grazie; questa è infatti la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù verso di voi.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito,
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 non disprezzate le profezie;
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 esaminate ogni cosa, tenete ciò che è buono.
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 Astenetevi da ogni specie di male.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Il Dio della pace vi santifichi fino alla perfezione, e tutto quello che è vostro, spirito, anima e corpo, si conservi irreprensibile per la venuta del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Colui che vi chiama è fedele e farà tutto questo!
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Fratelli, pregate anche per noi.
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con il bacio santo.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Vi scongiuro, per il Signore, che si legga questa lettera a tutti i fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ	28 La grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi.
