NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
For we are well aware that when the tent that houses us on earth is folded up, there is a house for usfrom God, not made by human hands but everlasting, in the heavens.1 Sappiamo infatti che quando verrà disfatto questo corpo, nostra abitazione sulla terra, riceveremo un'abitazione da Dio, una dimora eterna, non costruita da mani di uomo, nei cieli.
And in this earthly state we do indeed groan,2 Perciò sospiriamo in questo nostro stato, desiderosi di rivestirci del nostro corpo celeste:
longing to put on our heavenly home over the present one; if indeed we are to be found clothed ratherthan stripped bare.3 a condizione però di esser trovati già vestiti, non nudi.
Yes, indeed, in this present tent, we groan under the burden, not that we want to be stripped of ourcovering, but because we want to be covered with a second garment on top, so that what is mortal in us may beswal owed up by life.4 In realtà quanti siamo in questo corpo, sospiriamo come sotto un peso, non volendo venire spogliati ma sopravvestiti, perché ciò che è mortale venga assorbito dalla vita.
It is God who designed us for this very purpose, and he has given us the Spirit as a pledge.5 È Dio che ci ha fatti per questo e ci ha dato la caparra dello Spirito.
We are always ful of confidence, then, realising that as long as we are at home in the body we areexiled from the Lord,6 Così, dunque, siamo sempre pieni di fiducia e sapendo che finché abitiamo nel corpo siamo in esilio lontano dal Signore,
guided by faith and not yet by sight;7 camminiamo nella fede e non ancora in visione.
we are ful of confidence, then, and long instead to be exiled from the body and to be at home with theLord.8 Siamo pieni di fiducia e preferiamo andare in esilio dal corpo ed abitare presso il Signore.
And so whether at home or exiled, we make it our ambition to please him.9 Perciò ci sforziamo, sia dimorando nel corpo sia esulando da esso, di essere a lui graditi.
For at the judgement seat of Christ we are al to be seen for what we are, so that each of us mayreceive what he has deserved in the body, matched to whatever he has done, good or bad.10 Tutti infatti dobbiamo comparire davanti al tribunale di Cristo, ciascuno per ricevere la ricompensa delle opere compiute finché era nel corpo, sia in bene che in male.

And so it is with the fear of the Lord always in mind that we try to win people over. But God sees us forwhat we are, and I hope your consciences do too.11 Consapevoli dunque del timore del Signore, noi cerchiamo di convincere gli uomini; per quanto invece riguarda Dio, gli siamo ben noti. E spero di esserlo anche davanti alle vostre coscienze.
Again we are saying this not to commend ourselves to you, but simply to give you the opportunity totake pride in us, so that you may have an answer for those who take pride in appearances and not inner reality.12 Non ricominciamo a raccomandarci a voi, ma è solo per darvi occasione di vanto a nostro riguardo, perché abbiate di che rispondere a coloro il cui vanto è esteriore e non nel cuore.
If we have been unreasonable, it was for God; if reasonable, for you.13 Se infatti siamo stati fuori di senno, era per Dio; se siamo assennati, è per voi.
For the love of Christ overwhelms us when we consider that if one man died for all, then al have died;14 Poiché l'amore del Cristo ci spinge, al pensiero che uno è morto per tutti e quindi tutti sono morti.
his purpose in dying for all humanity was that those who live should live not any more for themselves, but for him who died and was raised to life.15 Ed egli è morto per tutti, perché quelli che vivono non vivano più per se stessi, ma per colui che è morto e risuscitato per loro.
From now onwards, then, we wil not consider anyone by human standards: even if we were oncefamiliar with Christ according to human standards, we do not know him in that way any longer.16 Cosicché ormai noi non conosciamo più nessuno secondo la carne; e anche se abbiamo conosciuto Cristo secondo la carne, ora non lo conosciamo più così.
So for anyone who is in Christ, there is a new creation: the old order is gone and a new being is thereto see.17 Quindi se uno è in Cristo, è una creatura nuova; le cose vecchie sono passate, ecco ne sono nate di nuove.
It is all God's work; he reconciled us to himself through Christ and he gave us the ministry ofreconciliation.18 Tutto questo però viene da Dio, che ci ha riconciliati con sé mediante Cristo e ha affidato a noi il ministero della riconciliazione.
I mean, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not holding anyone's faults against them, but entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.19 È stato Dio infatti a riconciliare a sé il mondo in Cristo, non imputando agli uomini le loro colpe e affidando a noi la parola della riconciliazione.
So we are ambassadors for Christ; it is as though God were urging you through us, and in the name ofChrist we appeal to you to be reconciled to God.20 Noi fungiamo quindi da ambasciatori per Cristo, come se Dio esortasse per mezzo nostro. Vi supplichiamo in nome di Cristo: lasciatevi riconciliare con Dio.
For our sake he made the sinless one a victim for sin, so that in him we might become the uprightnessof God.21 Colui che non aveva conosciuto peccato, Dio lo trattò da peccato in nostro favore, perché noi potessimo diventare per mezzo di lui giustizia di Dio.
