John 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 After this Jesus travel ed round Galilee; he could not travel round Judaea, because the Jews wereseeking to kil him.	1 Dopo questi fatti Gesù se ne andava per la Galilea; infatti non voleva più andare per la Giudea, perché i Giudei cercavano di ucciderlo.
2 As the Jewish feast of Shelters drew near,	2 Si avvicinava intanto la festa dei Giudei, detta delle Capanne;
3 his brothers said to him, 'Leave this place and go to Judaea, so that your disciples, too, can see the works you are doing;	3 i suoi fratelli gli dissero: "Parti di qui e va' nella Giudea perché anche i tuoi discepoli vedano le opere che tu fai.
4 no one who wants to be publicly known acts in secret; if this is what you are doing, you should revealyourself to the world.'	4 Nessuno infatti agisce di nascosto, se vuole venire riconosciuto pubblicamente. Se fai tali cose, manifèstati al mondo!".
5 Not even his brothers had faith in him.	5 Neppure i suoi fratelli infatti credevano in lui.
6 Jesus answered, 'For me the right time has not come yet, but for you any time is the right time.	6 Gesù allora disse loro: "Il mio tempo non è ancora venuto, il vostro invece è sempre pronto.
7 The world cannot hate you, but it does hate me, because I give evidence that its ways are evil.	7 Il mondo non può odiare voi, ma odia me, perché di lui io attesto che le sue opere sono cattive.
8 Go up to the festival yourselves: I am not going to this festival, because for me the time is not ripe yet.'	8 Andate voi a questa festa; io non ci vado, perché il mio tempo non è ancora compiuto".
9 Having said that, he stayed behind in Galilee.	9 Dette loro queste cose, restò nella Galilea.
10 However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went up as well, not publicly but secretly.	10 Ma andati i suoi fratelli alla festa, allora vi andò anche lui; non apertamente però: di nascosto.
11 At the festival the Jews were on the look-out for him: 'Where is he?' they said.	11 I Giudei intanto lo cercavano durante la festa e dicevano: "Dov'è quel tale?".
12 There was a great deal of talk about him in the crowds. Some said, 'He is a good man'; others, 'No, heis leading the people astray.'	12 E si faceva sommessamente un gran parlare di lui tra la folla; gli uni infatti dicevano: "È buono!". Altri invece: "No, inganna la gente!".
13 Yet no one spoke about him openly, for fear of the Jews.	13 Nessuno però ne parlava in pubblico, per paura dei Giudei.
14 When the festival was half over, Jesus went to the Temple and began to teach.	14 Quando ormai si era a metà della festa, Gesù salì al tempio e vi insegnava.
15 The Jews were astonished and said, 'How did he learn to read? He has not been educated.'	15 I Giudei ne erano stupiti e dicevano: "Come mai costui conosce le Scritture, senza avere studiato?".
16 Jesus answered them: 'My teaching is not from myself: it comes from the one who sent me;	16 Gesù rispose: "La mia dottrina non è mia, ma di colui che mi ha mandato.
17 anyone who is prepared to do his wil , wil know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speakon my own account.	17 Chi vuol fare la sua volontà, conoscerà se questa dottrina viene da Dio, o se io parlo da me stesso.
18 When someone speaks on his own account, he is seeking honour for himself; but when he is seekingthe honour of the person who sent him, then he is true and altogether without dishonesty.	18 Chi parla da se stesso, cerca la propria gloria; ma chi cerca la gloria di colui che l'ha mandato è veritiero, e in lui non c'è ingiustizia.
19 Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law!	19 Non è stato forse Mosè a darvi la Legge? Eppure nessuno di voi osserva la Legge! Perché cercate di uccidermi?".
20 The crowd replied, 'You are mad! Who wants to kil you?'	20 Rispose la folla: "Tu hai un demonio! Chi cerca di ucciderti?".
21 Jesus answered, 'One work I did, and you are all amazed at it.	21 Rispose Gesù: "Un'opera sola ho compiuto, e tutti ne siete stupiti.
22 Moses ordered you to practise circumcision -- not that it began with him, it goes back to the patriarchs-- and you circumcise on the Sabbath.	22 Mosè vi ha dato la circoncisione - non che essa venga da Mosè, ma dai patriarchi - e voi circoncidete un uomo anche di sabato.
23 Now if someone can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses is not broken, why areyou angry with me for making someone completely healthy on a Sabbath?	23 Ora se un uomo riceve la circoncisione di sabato perché non sia trasgredita la Legge di Mosè, voi vi sdegnate contro di me perché ho guarito interamente un uomo di sabato?
24 Do not keep judging according to appearances; let your judgement be according to what is right.'	24 Non giudicate secondo le apparenze, ma giudicate con giusto giudizio!".
25 Meanwhile some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, 'Isn't this the man they want to kil ?	25 Intanto alcuni di Gerusalemme dicevano: "Non è costui quello che cercano di uccidere?
26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they have nothing to say to him! Can it be true the authoritieshave recognised that he is the Christ?	26 Ecco, egli parla liberamente, e non gli dicono niente. Che forse i capi abbiano riconosciuto davvero che egli è il Cristo?
27 Yet we al know where he comes from, but when the Christ appears no one wil know where he comesfrom.'	27 Ma costui sappiamo di dov'è; il Cristo invece, quando verrà, nessuno saprà di dove sia".
28 Then, as Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he cried out: You know me and you know where I camefrom. Yet I have not come of my own accord: but he who sent me is true; You do not know him,	28 Gesù allora, mentre insegnava nel tempio, esclamò: "Certo, voi mi conoscete e sapete di dove sono. Eppure io non sono venuto da me e chi mi ha mandato è veritiero, e voi non lo conoscete.
29 but I know him because I have my being from him and it was he who sent me.	29 Io però lo conosco, perché vengo da lui ed egli mi ha mandato".
30 They wanted to arrest him then, but because his hour had not yet come no one laid a hand on him.	30 Allora cercarono di arrestarlo, ma nessuno riuscì a mettergli le mani addosso, perché non era ancora giunta la sua ora.
31 There were many people in the crowds, however, who believed in him; they were saying, 'When theChrist comes, wil he give more signs than this man has?'	31 Molti della folla invece credettero in lui, e dicevano: "Il Cristo, quando verrà, potrà fare segni più grandi di quelli che ha fatto costui?".
32 Hearing that talk like this about him was spreading among the people, the Pharisees sent the Templeguards to arrest him.	32 I farisei intanto udirono che la gente sussurrava queste cose di lui e perciò i sommi sacerdoti e i farisei mandarono delle guardie per arrestarlo.
33 Then Jesus said: For a short time I am with you stil ; then I shal go back to the one who sent me.	33 Gesù disse: "Per poco tempo ancora rimango con voi, poi vado da colui che mi ha mandato.
34 You will look for me and wil not find me; where I am you cannot come.	34 Voi mi cercherete, e non mi troverete; e dove sono io, voi non potrete venire".
35 So the Jews said to one another, 'Where is he intending to go that we shal not be able to find him? Ishe intending to go abroad to the people who are dispersed among the Greeks and to teach the Greeks?	35 Dissero dunque tra loro i Giudei: "Dove mai sta per andare costui, che noi non potremo trovarlo? Andrà forse da quelli che sono dispersi fra i Greci e ammaestrerà i Greci?
36 'Why do you want to kil me?' What does he mean when he says: "You will look for me and wil not findme; where I am, you cannot come?" '	36 Che discorso è questo che ha fatto: Mi cercherete e non mi troverete e dove sono io voi non potrete venire?".
37 On the last day, the great day of the festival, Jesus stood and cried out: 'Let anyone who is thirstycome to me!	37 Nell'ultimo giorno, il grande giorno della festa, Gesù levatosi in piedi esclamò ad alta voce: "Chi ha sete venga a me e beva
38 Let anyone who believes in me come and drink! As scripture says, "From his heart shal flow streamsof living water." '	38 chi crede in me; come dice la Scrittura: fiumi di acqua viva sgorgheranno dal suo seno".
39 He was speaking of the Spirit which those who believed in him were to receive; for there was no Spiritas yet because Jesus had not yet been glorified.	39 Questo egli disse riferendosi allo Spirito che avrebbero ricevuto i credenti in lui: infatti non c'era ancora lo Spirito, perché Gesù non era stato ancora glorificato.
40 Some of the crowd who had been listening said, 'He is indeed the prophet,'	40 All'udire queste parole, alcuni fra la gente dicevano: "Questi è davvero il profeta!".
41 and some said, 'He is the Christ,' but others said, 'Would the Christ come from Galilee?	41 Altri dicevano: "Questi è il Cristo!". Altri invece dicevano: "Il Cristo viene forse dalla Galilea?
42 Does not scripture say that the Christ must be descended from David and come from Bethlehem, thevil age where David was?'	42 Non dice forse la Scrittura che il Cristo 'verrà dalla stirpe di Davide' e 'da Betlemme', il villaggio di Davide?".
43 So the people could not agree about him.	43 E nacque dissenso tra la gente riguardo a lui.
44 Some wanted to arrest him, but no one actual y laid a hand on him.	44 Alcuni di loro volevano arrestarlo, ma nessuno gli mise le mani addosso.
45 The guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees who said to them, 'Why haven't you broughthim?'	45 Le guardie tornarono quindi dai sommi sacerdoti e dai farisei e questi dissero loro: "Perché non lo avete condotto?".
46 The guards replied, 'No one has ever spoken like this man.'	46 Risposero le guardie: "Mai un uomo ha parlato come parla quest'uomo!".
47 'So,' the Pharisees answered, 'you, too, have been led astray?	47 Ma i farisei replicarono loro: "Forse vi siete lasciati ingannare anche voi?
48 Have any of the authorities come to believe in him? Any of the Pharisees?	48 Forse gli ha creduto qualcuno fra i capi, o fra i farisei?
49 This rabble knows nothing about the Law -- they are damned.'	49 Ma questa gente, che non conosce la Legge, è maledetta!".
50 One of them, Nicodemus -- the same man who had come to Jesus earlier -- said to them,	50 Disse allora Nicodèmo, uno di loro, che era venuto precedentemente da Gesù:
51 'But surely our Law does not al ow us to pass judgement on anyone without first giving him a hearingand discovering what he is doing?'	51 "La nostra Legge giudica forse un uomo prima di averlo ascoltato e di sapere ciò che fa?".
52 To this they answered, 'Are you a Galilean too? Go into the matter, and see for yourself: prophets donot arise in Galilee.'	52 Gli risposero: "Sei forse anche tu della Galilea? Studia e vedrai che non sorge profeta dalla Galilea".
53 They al went home,	53 E tornarono ciascuno a casa sua.
