Deuteronomy 29

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 Moses called all Israel together and said to them: 'You have seen everything that Yahweh did beforeyour eyes in Egypt, to Pharaoh, to his servants and to his whole country-	1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: "Voi avete visto quanto il Signore ha fatto sotto i vostri occhi, nel paese d'Egitto, al faraone, a tutti i suoi ministri e a tutto il suo paese;
2 the great ordeals which you yourselves witnessed, those signs and the great wonders.	2 le prove grandiose che i tuoi occhi hanno visto, i segni e i grandi prodigi.
3 But until today Yahweh has not given you a heart to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.	3 Ma fino ad oggi il Signore non vi ha dato una mente per comprendere, né occhi per vedere, né orecchi per udire.
4 'I have been leading you for forty years in the desert, yet the clothes which you have been wearinghave not worn out, nor have the sandals on your feet.	4 Io vi ho condotti per quarant'anni nel deserto; i vostri mantelli non vi si sono logorati addosso e i vostri sandali non vi si sono logorati ai piedi.
5 You have had no bread to eat, you have had no wine or fermented liquor to drink, so that you wouldlearn that I, Yahweh, am your God.	5 Non avete mangiato pane, non avete bevuto vino, né bevanda inebriante, perché sapevate che io sono il Signore vostro Dio.
6 'When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to do battleagainst us; we defeated them.	6 Quando foste arrivati in questo luogo e Sicon re di Chesbon e Og re di Basan uscirono contro di noi per combattere, noi li abbiamo sconfitti,
7 We conquered their country and gave it as heritage to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.	7 abbiamo preso il loro paese e l'abbiamo dato in possesso ai Rubeniti, ai Gaditi e a metà della tribù di Manàsse.
8 'Keep the words of this covenant, put them into practice, and you wil thrive in everything you do.	8 Osservate dunque le parole di questa alleanza e mettetela in pratica, perché abbiate successo in quanto farete.
9 'Al of you are standing here today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your tribal leaders, yourelders, your scribes, al the men of Israel,	9 Oggi voi state tutti davanti al Signore vostro Dio, i vostri capi, le vostre tribù, i vostri anziani, i vostri scribi, tutti gli Israeliti,
10 with your children and your wives (and the foreigner too who is in your camp, be he your wood-cutteror your water-carrier),	10 i vostri bambini, le vostre mogli, il forestiero che sta in mezzo al tuo accampamento, da chi ti spacca la legna a chi ti attinge l'acqua,
11 and you are about to pass into the covenant of Yahweh your God, sworn with imprecation, which hehas made with you today,	11 per entrare nell'alleanza del Signore tuo Dio e nell'imprecazione che il Signore tuo Dio sancisce oggi con te,
12 and by which, today, he makes you a nation for himself and he himself becomes a God to you, as hehas promised you, and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	12 per costituirti oggi suo popolo e per essere Egli il tuo Dio, come ti ha detto e come ha giurato ai tuoi padri, ad Abramo, ad Isacco e a Giacobbe.
13 Not only on your behalf am I today making this covenant and pronouncing this solemn curse,	13 Non soltanto con voi io sancisco questa alleanza e pronunzio questa imprecazione,
14 not only on behalf of those standing here with us in the presence of Yahweh our God today, but alsoon behalf of those not here with us today.	14 ma con chi oggi sta qui con noi davanti al Signore nostro Dio e con chi non è oggi qui con noi.
15 'Yes, you know the people with whom we used to live in Egypt, and those through whose countrieswe have travel ed -- the nations through whom we have passed.	15 Poiché voi sapete come abbiamo abitato nel paese d'Egitto e come siamo passati in mezzo alle nazioni, che avete attraversate;
16 You have seen their abominations and their idols made of wood and stone, silver and gold, whichwere there.	16 avete visto i loro abomini e gli idoli di legno, di pietra, d'argento e d'oro, che sono presso di loro.
17 'Let there be no man or woman of you, no clan or tribe, whose heart turns away from Yahweh yourGod today, to go and serve the gods of these nations. Among you let there be no root which bears poison orwormwood.	17 Non vi sia tra voi uomo o donna o famiglia o tribù che volga oggi il cuore lungi dal Signore nostro Dio, per andare a servire gli dèi di quelle nazioni. Non vi sia tra di voi radice alcuna che produca veleno e assenzio.
18 If, after hearing this imprecation, anyone, blessing himself, should say in his heart, "I shall do wellenough if I fol ow the dictates of my heart; much water drives away thirst,"	18 Se qualcuno, udendo le parole di questa imprecazione, si lusinga in cuor suo dicendo: Avrò benessere, anche se mi regolerò secondo l'ostinazione del mio cuore, con il pensiero che il terreno irrigato faccia sparire quello arido,
19 Yahweh wil not pardon him. The wrath and jealousy of Yahweh wil blaze against such a person;every curse written in this book wil fal on him, and Yahweh will blot his name out under heaven.	19 il Signore non consentirà a perdonarlo; anzi in tal caso la collera del Signore e la sua gelosia si accenderanno contro quell'uomo e si poserà sopra di lui ogni imprecazione scritta in questo libro e il Signore cancellerà il suo nome sotto il cielo.
20 Yahweh wil single him out of al the tribes of Israel for misfortune, in accordance with al the cursesof the covenant written in the book of this Law.	20 Il Signore lo segregherà, per sua sventura, da tutte le tribù d'Israele, secondo tutte le imprecazioni dell'alleanza scritta in questo libro della legge.
21 'The future generation, that of your children coming after you, and the foreigner arriving from somefar-away land, on seeing the plagues and diseases inflicted on this country by Yahweh, wil exclaim,	21 Allora la generazione futura, i vostri figli che sorgeranno dopo di voi e lo straniero che verrà da una terra lontana, quando vedranno i flagelli di quel paese e le malattie che il Signore gli avrà inflitte:
22 "Sulphur! Salt!-The whole country is burning! No one wil sow, nothing grow, no vegetation springever again! Devastation like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m, devastated by Yahweh in hisfurious wrath!"	22 tutto il suo suolo sarà zolfo, sale, arsura, non sarà seminato e non germoglierà, né erba di sorta vi crescerà, come dopo lo sconvolgimento di Sòdoma, di Gomorra, di Adma e di Zeboim, distrutte dalla sua collera e dal suo furore,
23 And al the nations wil exclaim, "Why has Yahweh treated this country like this? Why this great blazeof anger?"	23 diranno, dunque, tutte le nazioni: Perché il Signore ha trattato così questo paese? Perché l'ardore di questa grande collera?
24 'And people wil say, "Because they deserted the covenant of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, thecovenant which he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt;	24 E si risponderà: Perché hanno abbandonato l'alleanza del Signore, Dio dei loro padri: l'alleanza che egli aveva stabilita con loro, quando li ha fatti uscire dal paese d'Egitto;
25 because they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods hitherto unknown to them,gods that were no part of their heritage from him:	25 perché sono andati a servire altri dèi e si sono prostrati dinanzi a loro: dèi che essi non avevano conosciuti e che egli non aveva dato loro in sorte.
26 this is why Yahweh's anger has blazed against this country, afflicting it with al the curses written inthis book.	26 Per questo si è accesa la collera del Signore contro questo paese, mandandovi contro tutte le imprecazioni scritte in questo libro;
27 In anger, in fury, in fierce wrath, Yahweh has torn them from their own country and flung them intoanother country, where they are today."	27 il Signore li ha strappati dal loro suolo con ira, con furore e con grande sdegno e li ha gettati in un altro paese, come oggi.
28 Things hidden belong to Yahweh our God, but things revealed are ours and our children's for ever,so that we can put al the words of this Law into practice.'	28 Le cose occulte appartengono al Signore nostro Dio, ma le cose rivelate sono per noi e per i nostri figli, sempre, perché pratichiamo tutte le parole di questa legge.
