NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Looking up, he saw rich people putting their offerings into the treasury;1 Alzati gli occhi, vide alcuni ricchi che gettavano le loro offerte nel tesoro.
and he noticed a poverty-stricken widow putting in two smal coins,2 Vide anche una vedova povera che vi gettava due spiccioli
and he said, 'I tell you truly, this poor widow has put in more than any of them;3 e disse: "In verità vi dico: questa vedova, povera, ha messo più di tutti.
for these have al put in money they could spare, but she in her poverty has put in al she had to liveon.'4 Tutti costoro, infatti, han deposto come offerta del loro superfluo, questa invece nella sua miseria ha dato tutto quanto aveva per vivere".

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework andvotive offerings, he said,5 Mentre alcuni parlavano del tempio e delle belle pietre e dei doni votivi che lo adornavano, disse:
'Al these things you are staring at now -- the time will come when not a single stone will be left onanother; everything will be destroyed.'6 "Verranno giorni in cui, di tutto quello che ammirate, non resterà pietra su pietra che non venga distrutta".
And they put to him this question, 'Master,' they said, 'when wil this happen, then, and what sign wilthere be that it is about to take place?'7 Gli domandarono: "Maestro, quando accadrà questo e quale sarà il segno che ciò sta per compiersi?".

But he said, 'Take care not to be deceived, because many wil come using my name and saying, "I amthe one" and "The time is near at hand." Refuse to join them.8 Rispose: "Guardate di non lasciarvi ingannare. Molti verranno sotto il mio nome dicendo: "Sono io" e: "Il tempo è prossimo"; non seguiteli.
And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, for this is something that must happenfirst, but the end wil not come at once.'9 Quando sentirete parlare di guerre e di rivoluzioni, non vi terrorizzate. Devono infatti accadere prima queste cose, ma non sarà subito la fine".
Then he said to them, 'Nation wil fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.10 Poi disse loro: "Si solleverà popolo contro popolo e regno contro regno,
There wil be great earthquakes and plagues and famines in various places; there wil be terrifyingevents and great signs from heaven.11 e vi saranno di luogo in luogo terremoti, carestie e pestilenze; vi saranno anche fatti terrificanti e segni grandi dal cielo.
'But before all this happens, you will be seized and persecuted; you will be handed over to thesynagogues and to imprisonment, and brought before kings and governors for the sake of my name12 Ma prima di tutto questo metteranno le mani su di voi e vi perseguiteranno, consegnandovi alle sinagoghe e alle prigioni, trascinandovi davanti a re e a governatori, a causa del mio nome.
-and that wil be your opportunity to bear witness.13 Questo vi darà occasione di render testimonianza.
Make up your minds not to prepare your defence,14 Mettetevi bene in mente di non preparare prima la vostra difesa;
because I myself shal give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents wil be ableto resist or contradict.15 io vi darò lingua e sapienza, a cui tutti i vostri avversari non potranno resistere, né controbattere.
You wil be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relations and friends; and some of you wil be putto death.16 Sarete traditi perfino dai genitori, dai fratelli, dai parenti e dagli amici, e metteranno a morte alcuni di voi;
You wil be hated universal y on account of my name,17 sarete odiati da tutti per causa del mio nome.
but not a hair of your head wil be lost.18 Ma nemmeno un capello del vostro capo perirà.
Your perseverance wil win you your lives.19 Con la vostra perseveranza salverete le vostre anime.

'When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you must realise that it wil soon be laiddesolate.20 Ma quando vedrete Gerusalemme circondata da eserciti, sappiate allora che la sua devastazione è vicina.
Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those incountry districts must not take refuge in it.21 Allora coloro che si trovano nella Giudea fuggano ai monti, coloro che sono dentro la città se ne allontanino, e quelli in campagna non tornino in città;
For this is the time of retribution when al that scripture says must be fulfil ed.22 saranno infatti giorni di vendetta, perché tutto ciò che è stato scritto si compia.

Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!23 Guai alle donne che sono incinte e allattano in quei giorni, perché vi sarà grande calamità nel paese e ira contro questo popolo.
'For great misery wil descend on the land and retribution on this people. They will fal by the edge ofthe sword and be led captive to every gentile country; and Jerusalem wil be trampled down by the gentiles untiltheir time is complete.24 Cadranno a fil di spada e saranno condotti prigionieri tra tutti i popoli; Gerusalemme sarà calpestata dai pagani finché i tempi dei pagani siano compiuti.

'There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by theturmoil of the ocean and its waves;25 Vi saranno segni nel sole, nella luna e nelle stelle, e sulla terra angoscia di popoli in ansia per il fragore del mare e dei flutti,
men fainting away with terror and fear at what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven wil beshaken.26 mentre gli uomini moriranno per la paura e per l'attesa di ciò che dovrà accadere sulla terra. 'Le' potenze 'dei cieli' infatti saranno sconvolte.
And then they wil see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.27 Allora vedranno 'il Figlio dell'uomo venire su una nube' con potenza e gloria grande.
When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation isnear at hand.'28 Quando cominceranno ad accadere queste cose, alzatevi e levate il capo, perché la vostra liberazione è vicina".

And he told them a parable, 'Look at the fig tree and indeed every tree.29 E disse loro una parabola: "Guardate il fico e tutte le piante;
As soon as you see them bud, you can see for yourselves that summer is now near.30 quando già germogliano, guardandoli capite da voi stessi che ormai l'estate è vicina.
So with you when you see these things happening: know that the kingdom of God is near.31 Così pure, quando voi vedrete accadere queste cose, sappiate che il regno di Dio è vicino.
In truth I tell you, before this generation has passed away al wil have taken place.32 In verità vi dico: non passerà questa generazione finché tutto ciò sia avvenuto.
Sky and earth wil pass away, but my words wil never pass away.33 Il cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno.

'Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened by debauchery and drunkenness and the caresof life, and that day wil come upon you unexpectedly,34 State bene attenti che i vostri cuori non si appesantiscano in dissipazioni, ubriachezze e affanni della vita e che quel giorno non vi piombi addosso improvviso;
like a trap. For it wil come down on all those living on the face of the earth.35 come un laccio esso si abbatterà sopra tutti coloro che abitano sulla faccia di tutta la terra.
Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to holdyour ground before the Son of man.'36 Vegliate e pregate in ogni momento, perché abbiate la forza di sfuggire a tutto ciò che deve accadere, e di comparire davanti al Figlio dell'uomo".

All day long he would be in the Temple teaching, but would spend the night in the open on the hilcal ed the Mount of Olives.37 Durante il giorno insegnava nel tempio, la notte usciva e pernottava all'aperto sul monte detto degli Ulivi.
And from early morning the people thronged to him in the Temple to listen to him.38 E tutto il popolo veniva a lui di buon mattino nel tempio per ascoltarlo.
