NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
'Do not judge, and you will not be judged;1 Non giudicate, per non essere giudicati;
because the judgements you give are the judgements you wil get, and the standard you use wil be thestandard used for you.2 perché col giudizio con cui giudicate sarete giudicati, e con la misura con la quale misurate sarete misurati.
Why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the great log in your own?3 Perché osservi la pagliuzza nell'occhio del tuo fratello, mentre non ti accorgi della trave che hai nel tuo occhio?
And how dare you say to your brother, "Let me take that splinter out of your eye," when, look, there is agreat log in your own?4 O come potrai dire al tuo fratello: permetti che tolga la pagliuzza dal tuo occhio, mentre nell'occhio tuo c'è la trave?
Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you wil see clearly enough to take thesplinter out of your brother's eye.5 Ipocrita, togli prima la trave dal tuo occhio e poi ci vedrai bene per togliere la pagliuzza dall'occhio del tuo fratello.

'Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls in front of pigs, or they may trample themand then turn on you and tear you to pieces.6 Non date le cose sante ai cani e non gettate le vostre perle davanti ai porci, perché non le calpestino con le loro zampe e poi si voltino per sbranarvi.

'Ask, and it wil be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.7 Chiedete e vi sarà dato; cercate e troverete; bussate e vi sarà aperto;
Everyone who asks receives; everyone who searches finds; everyone who knocks will have the dooropened.8 perché chiunque chiede riceve, e chi cerca trova e a chi bussa sarà aperto.
Is there anyone among you who would hand his son a stone when he asked for bread?9 Chi tra di voi al figlio che gli chiede un pane darà una pietra?
Or would hand him a snake when he asked for a fish?10 O se gli chiede un pesce, darà una serpe?
If you, then, evil as you are, know how to give your children what is good, how much more wil yourFather in heaven give good things to those who ask him!11 Se voi dunque che siete cattivi sapete dare cose buone ai vostri figli, quanto più il Padre vostro che è nei cieli darà cose buone a quelli che gliele domandano!

'So always treat others as you would like them to treat you; that is the Law and the Prophets.12 Tutto quanto volete che gli uomini facciano a voi, anche voi fatelo a loro: questa infatti è la Legge ed i Profeti.

'Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and manytake it;13 Entrate per la porta stretta, perché larga è la porta e spaziosa la via che conduce alla perdizione, e molti sono quelli che entrano per essa;
but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.14 quanto stretta invece è la porta e angusta la via che conduce alla vita, e quanto pochi sono quelli che la trovano!

'Beware of false prophets who come to you disguised as sheep but underneath are ravenous wolves.15 Guardatevi dai falsi profeti che vengono a voi in veste di pecore, ma dentro son lupi rapaci.
You wil be able to tel them by their fruits. Can people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?16 Dai loro frutti li riconoscerete. Si raccoglie forse uva dalle spine, o fichi dai rovi?
In the same way, a sound tree produces good fruit but a rotten tree bad fruit.17 Così ogni albero buono produce frutti buoni e ogni albero cattivo produce frutti cattivi;
A sound tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a rotten tree bear good fruit.18 un albero buono non può produrre frutti cattivi, né un albero cattivo produrre frutti buoni.
Any tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown on the fire.19 Ogni albero che non produce frutti buoni viene tagliato e gettato nel fuoco.
I repeat, you wil be able to tel them by their fruits.20 Dai loro frutti dunque li potrete riconoscere.

'It is not anyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," who wil enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the personwho does the wil of my Father in heaven.21 Non chiunque mi dice: Signore, Signore, entrerà nel regno dei cieli, ma colui che fa la volontà del Padre mio che è nei cieli.
When the day comes many wil say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, drive outdemons in your name, work many miracles in your name?"22 Molti mi diranno in quel giorno: Signore, Signore, non abbiamo noi profetato nel tuo nome e cacciato demòni nel tuo nome e compiuto molti miracoli nel tuo nome?
Then I shal tel them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, al evil doers!23 Io però dichiarerò loro: Non vi ho mai conosciuti; allontanatevi da me, voi operatori di iniquità.
'Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock.24 Perciò chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e le mette in pratica, è simile a un uomo saggio che ha costruito la sua casa sulla roccia.
Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fal :it was founded on rock.25 Cadde la pioggia, strariparono i fiumi, soffiarono i venti e si abbatterono su quella casa, ed essa non cadde, perché era fondata sopra la roccia.
But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid manwho built his house on sand.26 Chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e non le mette in pratica, è simile a un uomo stolto che ha costruito la sua casa sulla sabbia.
Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!'27 Cadde la pioggia, strariparono i fiumi, soffiarono i venti e si abbatterono su quella casa, ed essa cadde, e la sua rovina fu grande".
Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say, and his teaching made a deep impression on thepeople28 Quando Gesù ebbe finito questi discorsi, le folle restarono stupite del suo insegnamento:
because he taught them with authority, unlike their own scribes.29 egli infatti insegnava loro come uno che ha autorità e non come i loro scribi.
