NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 Israel was a luxuriant vine yielding plenty of fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built;the richer his land became, the richer he made the sacred pil ars.1 Rigogliosa vite era Israele,che dava frutto abbondante;
ma più abbondante era il suo frutto,
più moltiplicava gli altari;
più ricca era la terra,
più belle faceva le sue stele.
2 Theirs is a divided heart; now they wil have to pay for it. He himself will hack down their altars andwreck their sacred pil ars.2 Il loro cuore è falso;
orbene, sconteranno la pena!
Egli stesso demolirà i loro altari,distruggerà le loro stele.
3 Then they wil say, 'We have no king because we have not feared Yahweh, but what could the king dofor us?'3 Allora diranno: "Non abbiamo più re,
perché non temiamo il Signore.
Ma anche il re che potrebbe fare per noi?".
4 Speeches are made, oaths sworn to no purpose, agreements concluded, and so-called justicespreads like a poisonous weed along the furrows of the fields!4 Dicono parole vane, giurano il falso,
concludono alleanze:
la giustizia fiorisce come cicuta
nei solchi dei campi.
5 Samaria's citizens wil tremble for the calf of Beth-Aven; the people there wil mourn for it, so wil itsidol-priests, as they exult in its glory once it has been carried away!5 Gli abitanti di Samaria trepidano
per il vitello di Bet-Avèn,
ne fa lutto il suo popolo
e i suoi sacerdoti ne fanno lamento,
perché la sua gloria sta per andarsene.
6 It wil be carried off to Assyria as tribute to the Great King. Ephraim will reap the shame, and Israelblush for his intentions.6 Sarà portato anch'esso in Assiria
come offerta al gran re.
Èfraim ne avrà vergogna,
Israele arrossirà del suo consiglio.
7 Samaria has had her day. Her king is like a straw drifting on the water.7 Perirà il re di Samaria
come un fuscello sull'acqua.
8 The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, wil be destroyed; thorns and thistles wil grow over theiraltars. Then they wil say to the mountains, 'Cover us!' and to the hil s, 'Fal on us!'8 Le alture dell'iniquità, peccato d'Israele,
saranno distrutte,
spine e rovi cresceranno sui loro altari;
diranno ai monti: "Copriteci"
e ai colli: "Cadete su di noi".
9 Since the days of Gibeah, Israel, you have sinned. There they have taken their stand, and will not warovertake the guilty at Gibeah?9 Fin dai giorni di Gàbaa
tu hai peccato, Israele.
Là si fermarono, e la battaglia
non li raggiungerà forse in Gàbaa
contro i figli dell'iniquità?
10 I am coming to punish them; nations will muster against them to punish them for their two crimes.10 Io verrò a colpirli:
si raduneranno i popoli contro di loro
perché sono attaccati alla loro duplice colpa.

11 Ephraim is a wel -trained heifer that loves to tread the grain. But I have laid a yoke on her fine neck, Ishall put Ephraim into harness, Judah wil have to plough, Jacob must draw the harrow.11 Èfraim è una giovenca addestrata
cui piace trebbiare il grano.
Ma io farò pesare il giogo
sul suo bel collo;
attaccherò Èfraim all'aratro
e Giacobbe all'erpice.
12 Sow saving justice for yourselves, reap a harvest of faithful love; break up your fal ow ground: it istime to seek out Yahweh until he comes to rain saving justice down on you.12 Seminate per voi secondo giustizia
e mieterete secondo bontà;
dissodatevi un campo nuovo,
perché è tempo di cercare il Signore,
finché egli venga
e diffonda su di voi la giustizia.
13 You have ploughed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity, you have eaten the fruit of falsehood.Because you have trusted in your chariots, in your great numbers of warriors,13 Avete arato empietà e mietuto ingiustizia,
avete mangiato il frutto della menzogna.
Poiché hai riposto fiducia nei tuoi carri
e nella moltitudine dei tuoi guerrieri,
14 turmoil is going to break out among your people, and al your fortresses will be laid waste. AsShalman laid Beth-Arbel waste on the day of battle, dashing mothers to pieces on their children,14 un rumore di guerra si alzerà contro le tue città
e tutte le tue fortezze saranno distrutte.
Come Salmàn devastò Bet-Arbèl
nel giorno della battaglia
in cui la madre fu sfracellata sui figli,
15 so it shal be done to you, Bethel, because of your great wickedness; at dawn, the king of Israel wilbe no more.15 così sarà fatto a te, gente d'Israele,
per l'enormità della tua malizia.
All'alba sarà la fine del re d'Israele.
