1 Arise, shine out, for your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen on you.1 Alzati, rivestiti di luce, perché viene la tua luce,
la gloria del Signore brilla sopra di te.
2 Look! though night stil covers the earth and darkness the peoples, on you Yahweh is rising and overyou his glory can be seen.2 Poiché, ecco, le tenebre ricoprono la terra,
nebbia fitta avvolge le nazioni;
ma su di te risplende il Signore,
la sua gloria appare su di te.
3 The nations wil come to your light and kings to your dawning brightness.3 Cammineranno i popoli alla tua luce,
i re allo splendore del tuo sorgere.
4 Lift up your eyes and look around: al are assembling and coming towards you, your sons coming fromfar away and your daughters being carried on the hip.4 Alza gli occhi intorno e guarda:
tutti costoro si sono radunati, vengono a te.
I tuoi figli vengono da lontano,
le tue figlie sono portate in braccio.
5 At this sight you wil grow radiant, your heart will throb and dilate, since the riches of the sea wil flow toyou, the wealth of the nations come to you;5 A quella vista sarai raggiante,
palpiterà e si dilaterà il tuo cuore,
perché le ricchezze del mare si riverseranno su di te,
verranno a te i beni dei popoli.
6 camels in throngs wil fill your streets, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; everyone in Saba willcome, bringing gold and incense and proclaiming Yahweh's praises.6 Uno stuolo di cammelli ti invaderà,
dromedari di Madian e di Efa,
tutti verranno da Saba, portando oro e incenso
e proclamando le glorie del Signore.
7 Al the flocks of Kedar will gather inside you, the rams of Nebaioth wil be at your service as acceptablevictims on my altar, and I shal glorify my glorious house.7 Tutti i greggi di Kedàr si raduneranno da te,
i montoni dei Nabatei saranno a tuo servizio,
saliranno come offerta gradita sul mio altare;
renderò splendido il tempio della mia gloria.
8 Who are these flying like a cloud, like doves to their dovecote?8 Chi sono quelle che volano come nubi
e come colombe verso le loro colombaie?
9 Why, the coasts and islands put their hope in me and the vessels of Tarshish take the lead in bringing your children from far away, and their silver and gold with them, for the sake of the name of Yahweh your God,of the Holy One of Israel who has made you glorious.9 Sono navi che si radunano per me,
le navi di Tarsis in prima fila,
per portare i tuoi figli da lontano,
con argento e oro,
per il nome del Signore tuo Dio,
per il Santo di Israele che ti onora.
10 Foreigners wil rebuild your walls and their kings wil serve you. For though I struck you in anger, inmercy I have pitied you.10 Stranieri ricostruiranno le tue mura,
i loro re saranno al tuo servizio,
perché nella mia ira ti ho colpito,
ma nella mia benevolenza ho avuto pietà di te.
11 Your gates wil always be open, never closed, either day or night, for the riches of the nations to bebrought you and their kings to be let in.11 Le tue porte saranno sempre aperte,
non si chiuderanno né di giorno né di notte,
per lasciar introdurre da te le ricchezze dei popolie i loro re che faranno da guida.
12 For the nation and kingdom that wil not serve you wil perish, and the nations wil be utterly destroyed.12 Perché il popolo e il regno
che non vorranno servirti periranno
e le nazioni saranno tutte sterminate.
13 The glory of the Lebanon wil come to you, cypress, plane-tree, box-tree, one and all, to adorn the siteof my sanctuary, for me to honour the place where I stand.13 La gloria del Libano verrà a te,
cipressi, olmi e abeti insieme,
per abbellire il luogo del mio santuario,
per glorificare il luogo dove poggio i miei piedi.
14 Your oppressors' children wil humbly approach you, at your feet al who despised you will faladdressing you as 'City of Yahweh', 'Zion of the Holy One of Israel'.14 Verranno a te in atteggiamento umile
i figli dei tuoi oppressori;
ti si getteranno proni alle piante dei piedi
quanti ti disprezzavano.
Ti chiameranno Città del Signore,
Sion del Santo di Israele.
15 Instead of your being forsaken and hated, avoided by everyone, I will make you an object of eternalpride, a source of joy from age to age.15 Dopo essere stata derelitta,
odiata, senza che alcuno passasse da te,
io farò di te l'orgoglio dei secoli,
la gioia di tutte le generazioni.
16 You wil suck the milk of nations, you wil suck the wealth of kings, and you wil know that I, Yahweh,am your Saviour, that your redeemer is the Mighty One of Jacob.16 Tu succhierai il latte dei popoli,
succhierai le ricchezze dei re.
Saprai che io sono il Signore tuo salvatore
e tuo redentore, io il Forte di Giacobbe.
17 For bronze I shal bring gold and for iron I shal bring silver, and for wood, bronze, and for stone, iron; Ishall make Peace your administration and Saving Justice your government.17 Farò venire oro anziché bronzo,
farò venire argento anziché ferro,
bronzo anziché legno,
ferro anziché pietre.
Costituirò tuo sovrano la pace,
tuo governatore la giustizia.
18 Violence wil no longer be heard of in your country, nor devastation and ruin within your frontiers. Youwil cal your wal s 'Salvation' and your gates 'Praise'.18 Non si sentirà più parlare di prepotenza nel tuo paese,
di devastazione e di distruzione entro i tuoi confini.
Tu chiamerai salvezza le tue mura
e gloria le tue porte.
19 No more wil the sun give you daylight, nor moonlight shine on you, but Yahweh wil be youreverlasting light, your God wil be your splendour.19 Il sole non sarà più la tua luce di giorno,
né ti illuminerà più
il chiarore della luna.
Ma il Signore sarà per te luce eterna,
il tuo Dio sarà il tuo splendore.
20 Your sun will set no more nor wil your moon wane, for Yahweh wil be your everlasting light and yourdays of mourning will be over.20 Il tuo sole non tramonterà più
né la tua luna si dileguerà,
perché il Signore sarà per te luce eterna;
saranno finiti i giorni del tuo lutto.
21 Your people, al of them upright, wil possess the country for ever, the shoot I myself have planted, myhandiwork, for my own glory.21 Il tuo popolo sarà tutto di giusti,
per sempre avranno in possesso la terra,
germogli delle piantagioni del Signore,
lavoro delle sue mani per mostrare la sua gloria.
22 The smal est wil grow into a thousand, the weakest one into a mighty nation. When the time is ripe, I,Yahweh, shal quickly bring it about.22 Il piccolo diventerà un migliaio,
il minimo un immenso popolo;
io sono il Signore:
a suo tempo, farò ciò speditamente.
