NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 Whoever loves discipline, loves knowledge, stupid are those who hate correction.1 Chi ama la disciplina ama la scienza,
chi odia la correzione è stolto.
2 The honest obtains Yahweh's favour, the schemer incurs his condemnation.2 Il buono si attira il favore del Signore,
ma egli condanna l'intrigante.
3 No one is made secure by wickedness, but nothing shakes the roots of the upright.3 Non resta saldo l'uomo con l'empietà,
ma la radice dei giusti non sarà smossa.
4 A capable wife, her husband's crown, a shameless wife, a cancer in his bones.4 La donna perfetta è la corona del marito,
ma quella che lo disonora è come carie nelle sue ossa.
5 The plans of the upright are honest, the intrigues of the wicked are full of deceit.5 I pensieri dei giusti sono equità,
i propositi degli empi sono frode.
6 The words of the wicked are snares to shed blood, what the honest say keeps them safe.6 Le parole degli empi sono agguati sanguinari,
ma la bocca degli uomini retti vi si sottrarrà.
7 Once thrown down, the wicked are no more, but the house of the upright stands firm.7 Gli empi, una volta abbattuti, più non sono,
ma la casa dei giusti sta salda.
8 Prudence wins praise, but a tortuous heart incurs only contempt.8 Un uomo è lodato per il senno,
chi ha un cuore perverso è disprezzato.
9 Better a common fel ow who has a slave than someone who gives himself airs and has nothing to eat.9 Un uomo di poco conto che basta a se stesso
vale più di un uomo esaltato a cui manca il pane.
10 The upright has compassion on his animals, but the heart of the wicked is ruthless.10 Il giusto ha cura del suo bestiame,
ma i sentimenti degli empi sono spietati.
11 Whoever works his land shall have bread and to spare, but no one who chases fantasies has anysense.11 Chi coltiva la sua terra si sazia di pane,
chi insegue chimere è privo di senno.
12 The godless delights in the snare of the wicked, but the root of the upright bears fruit.12 Le brame dell'empio sono una rete di mali,
la radice dei giusti produce frutti.
13 In the sin of the lips lies a disastrous trap, but the upright finds a way out of misfortune.13 Nel peccato delle sue labbra si impiglia il malvagio,
ma il giusto sfuggirà a tale angoscia.
14 Abundance of good things is the fruit of the lips; labour brings its own return.14 Ognuno si sazia del frutto della sua bocca,
ma ciascuno sarà ripagato secondo le sue opere.
15 Fools think the way they go is straight, the wise listens to advice.15 Lo stolto giudica diritta la sua condotta,
il saggio, invece, ascolta il consiglio.
16 The fool shows anger straightaway, the discreet conceals dislike.16 Lo stolto manifesta subito la sua collera,
l'accorto dissimula l'offesa.
17 To tel the truth is to further justice, a false witness is nothing but deceit.17 Chi aspira alla verità proclama la giustizia,
il falso testimone proclama l'inganno.
18 Thoughtless words can wound like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.18 V'è chi parla senza riflettere: trafigge come una spada;
ma la lingua dei saggi risana.
19 Sincere lips endure for ever, the lying tongue lasts only a moment.19 La bocca verace resta ferma per sempre,
la lingua bugiarda per un istante solo.
20 Deceit is in the heart of the schemer, joy with those who give counsels of peace.20 Amarezza è nel cuore di chi trama il male,
gioia hanno i consiglieri di pace.
21 No harm can come to the upright, but the wicked are swamped by misfortunes.21 Al giusto non può capitare alcun danno,
gli empi saranno pieni di mali.
22 Lying lips are abhorrent to Yahweh; dear to him those who make truth their way of life.22 Le labbra menzognere sono un abominio per il Signore
che si compiace di quanti agiscono con sincerità.
23 The discreet keeps knowledge hidden, the heart of fools proclaims their folly.23 L'uomo accorto cela il sapere,
il cuore degli stolti proclama la stoltezza.
24 For the diligent hand, authority; for the slack hand, forced labour.24 La mano operosa ottiene il comando,
quella pigra sarà per il lavoro forzato.
25 Worry makes a heart heavy, a kindly word makes it glad.25 L'affanno deprime il cuore dell'uomo,
una parola buona lo allieta.
26 The upright shows the way to a friend; the way of the wicked leads them astray.26 Il giusto è guida per il suo prossimo,
ma la via degli empi fa smarrire.
27 The idle has no game to roast; diligence is anyone's most precious possession.27 Il pigro non troverà selvaggina;
la diligenza è per l'uomo un bene prezioso.
28 In the way of uprightness is life, the ways of the vengeful lead to death.28 Nella strada della giustizia è la vita,
il sentiero dei perversi conduce alla morte.
