NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 A false balance is abhorrent to Yahweh, a just weight is pleasing to him.1 La bilancia falsa è in abominio al Signore,
ma del peso esatto egli si compiace.
2 Pride comes first; disgrace soon fol ows; with the humble is wisdom found.2 Viene la superbia, verrà anche l'obbrobrio,
mentre la saggezza è presso gli umili.
3 The honest have their own honesty for guidance, the treacherous are ruined by their own perfidy.3 L'integrità degli uomini retti li guida,
la perversità dei perfidi li rovina.
4 In the day of retribution riches wil be useless, but uprightness delivers from death.4 Non serve la ricchezza nel giorno della collera,
ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.
5 The uprightness of the good makes their way straight, the wicked fal by their own wickedness.5 La giustizia dell'uomo onesto gli spiana la via;
per la sua empietà cade l'empio.
6 Their uprightness sets the honest free, the treacherous are imprisoned by their own desires.6 La giustizia degli uomini retti li salva,
nella cupidigia restano presi i perfidi.
7 The hope of the wicked perishes with death, hope placed in riches comes to nothing.7 Con la morte dell'empio svanisce ogni sua speranza,
la fiducia dei malvagi scompare.
8 The upright escapes affliction, the wicked incurs it instead.8 Il giusto sfugge all'angoscia,
al suo posto subentra l'empio.
9 Through his mouth the godless is the ruin of his neighbour, but by knowledge the upright aresafeguarded.9 Con la bocca l'empio rovina il suo prossimo,
ma i giusti si salvano con la scienza.
10 When the upright prosper the city rejoices, when the wicked are ruined there is a shout of joy.10 Della prosperità dei giusti la città si rallegra,
per la scomparsa degli empi si fa festa.
11 A city is raised on the blessing of the honest, and demolished by the mouth of the wicked.11 Con la benedizione degli uomini retti si innalza una città,
la bocca degli empi la demolisce.
12 Whoever looks down on a neighbour lacks good sense; the intelligent keeps a check on the tongue.12 Chi disprezza il suo prossimo è privo di senno,
l'uomo prudente invece tace.
13 A tittle-tattler lets secrets out, the trustworthy keeps things hidden.13 Chi va in giro sparlando svela il segreto,
lo spirito fidato nasconde ogni cosa.
14 For want of leadership a people perishes, safety lies in many advisers.14 Senza una direzione un popolo decade,
il successo sta nel buon numero di consiglieri.
15 Whoever goes bail for a stranger does himself harm, but one who shuns going surety is safe.15 Chi garantisce per un estraneo si troverà male,
chi avversa le strette di mano a garanzia, vive tranquillo.
16 A gracious woman acquires honour, violent people acquire wealth.16 Una donna graziosa ottiene gloria,
ma gli uomini laboriosi acquistano ricchezza.
17 Faithful love brings its own reward, the inflexible injure their own selves.17 Benefica se stesso l'uomo misericordioso,
il crudele invece tormenta la sua stessa carne.
18 Disappointment crowns the labours of the wicked, whoever sows uprightness reaps a solid reward.18 L'empio realizza profitti fallaci,
ma per chi semina la giustizia il salario è sicuro.
19 Whoever establishes uprightness is on the way to life, whoever pursues evil, on the way to death.19 Chi pratica la giustizia si procura la vita,
chi segue il male va verso la morte.
20 Tortuous hearts are abhorrent to Yahweh, dear to him, those whose ways are blameless.20 I cuori depravati sono in abominio al Signore
che si compiace di chi ha una condotta integra.
21 Be sure of it, the wicked wil not go unpunished, but the race of the upright wil come to no harm.21 Certo non resterà impunito il malvagio,
ma la discendenza dei giusti si salverà.
22 A golden ring in the snout of a pig is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.22 Un anello d'oro al naso d'un porco,
tale è la donna bella ma priva di senno.
23 The hope of the upright is nothing but good, the expectation of the wicked is retribution.23 La brama dei giusti è solo il bene,
la speranza degli empi svanisce.
24 One scatters money around, yet only adds to his wealth, another is excessively mean, but only growsthe poorer.24 C'è chi largheggia e la sua ricchezza aumenta,
c'è chi risparmia oltre misura e finisce nella miseria.
25 The soul who blesses wil prosper, whoever satisfies others wil also be satisfied.25 La persona benefica avrà successo
e chi disseta sarà dissetato.
26 The people's curse is on those who hoard the wheat, their blessing on the head of those who sel it.26 Chi accaparra il grano è maledetto dal popolo,
la benedizione è invocata sul capo di chi lo vende.
27 Whoever strives for good obtains favour, whoever looks for evil wil get an evil return.27 Chi è sollecito del bene trova il favore,
chi ricerca il male, male avrà.
28 Whoever trusts in riches wil have a fal , the upright wil flourish like the leaves.28 Chi confida nella propria ricchezza cadrà;
i giusti invece verdeggeranno come foglie.
29 Whoever misgoverns a house inherits the wind, and the fool becomes slave to the wise.29 Chi crea disordine in casa erediterà vento
e lo stolto sarà schiavo dell'uomo saggio.
30 The fruit of the upright is a tree of life: the sage captivates souls.30 Il frutto del giusto è un albero di vita,
il saggio conquista gli animi.
31 If here on earth the upright gets due reward, how much more the wicked and the sinner!31 Ecco, il giusto è ripagato sulla terra,
tanto più lo saranno l'empio e il peccatore.
