NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.1 'Al maestro del coro. Su "Iditum". Di Asaf. Salmo.'
2 In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.2 La mia voce sale a Dio e grido aiuto;
la mia voce sale a Dio, finché mi ascolti.
3 I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause3 Nel giorno dell'angoscia io cerco il Signore,
tutta la notte la mia mano è tesa e non si stanca;
io rifiuto ogni conforto.
4 You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;4 Mi ricordo di Dio e gemo,
medito e viene meno il mio spirito.

5 I thought of former times, years long past5 Tu trattieni dal sonno i miei occhi,
sono turbato e senza parole.
6 I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:6 Ripenso ai giorni passati,
ricordo gli anni lontani.
7 Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?7 Un canto nella notte mi ritorna nel cuore:
rifletto e il mio spirito si va interrogando.

8 Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?8 Forse Dio ci respingerà per sempre,
non sarà più benevolo con noi?
9 Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause9 È forse cessato per sempre il suo amore,
è finita la sua promessa per sempre?
10 And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'10 Può Dio aver dimenticato la misericordia,
aver chiuso nell'ira il suo cuore?

11 Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,11 E ho detto: "Questo è il mio tormento:
è mutata la destra dell'Altissimo".
12 I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.12 Ricordo le gesta del Signore,
ricordo le tue meraviglie di un tempo.
13 God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?13 Mi vado ripetendo le tue opere,
considero tutte le tue gesta.

14 You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,14 O Dio, santa è la tua via;
quale dio è grande come il nostro Dio?
15 with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause15 Tu sei il Dio che opera meraviglie,
manifesti la tua forza fra le genti.
16 When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.16 È il tuo braccio che ha salvato il tuo popolo,
i figli di Giacobbe e di Giuseppe.

17 The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.17 Ti videro le acque, Dio,
ti videro e ne furono sconvolte;
sussultarono anche gli abissi.
18 The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.18 Le nubi rovesciarono acqua,
scoppiò il tuono nel cielo;
le tue saette guizzarono.
19 Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.19 Il fragore dei tuoi tuoni nel turbine,
i tuoi fulmini rischiararono il mondo,
la terra tremò e fu scossa.

20 You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20 Sul mare passava la tua via,
i tuoi sentieri sulle grandi acque
e le tue orme rimasero invisibili.
21 Guidasti come gregge il tuo popolo
per mano di Mosè e di Aronne.
