NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
1 Job spoke next. He said:1 Allora rispose:

2 How often have I heard al this before! What sorry comforters you are!2 Ne ho udite già molte di simili cose!
Siete tutti consolatori molesti.
3 'When wil these windy arguments be over?' or again, 'What sickness drives you to defend yourself?'3 Non avran termine le parole campate in aria?
O che cosa ti spinge a rispondere così?
4 Oh yes! I too could talk as you do, if you were in my place; I could overwhelm you with speeches,shaking my head over you,4 Anch'io sarei capace di parlare come voi,
se voi foste al mio posto:
vi affogherei con parole
e scuoterei il mio capo su di voi.
5 and speak words of encouragement, and then have no more to say.5 Vi conforterei con la bocca
e il tremito delle mie labbra cesserebbe.
6 When I speak, my suffering does not stop; if I say nothing, is it in any way reduced?6 Ma se parlo, non viene impedito il mio dolore;
se taccio, che cosa lo allontana da me?
7 And now it is driving me to distraction; you have struck my whole acquaintanceship with horror,7 Ora però egli m'ha spossato, fiaccato,
tutto il mio vicinato mi è addosso;
8 now it rounds on me, my slanderer has now turned witness, he appears against me, accusing me faceto face;8 si è costituito testimone ed è insorto contro di
me:
il mio calunniatore mi accusa in faccia.
9 his anger tears and hounds me with gnashing teeth. My enemies look daggers at me,9 La sua collera mi dilania e mi perseguita;
digrigna i denti contro di me,
il mio nemico su di me aguzza gli occhi.
10 and open gaping jaws. Their sneers strike like slaps in the face; and they all set on me at once.10 Spalancano la bocca contro di me,
mi schiaffeggiano con insulti,
insieme si alleano contro di me.
11 Yes, God has handed me over to the godless, and cast me into the hands of the wicked.11 Dio mi consegna come preda all'empio,
e mi getta nelle mani dei malvagi.
12 I was living at peace, until he made me totter, taking me by the neck to shatter me. He has set me upas his target:12 Me ne stavo tranquillo ed egli mi ha rovinato,
mi ha afferrato per il collo e mi ha stritolato;
ha fatto di me il suo bersaglio.
13 he shoots his arrows at me from all sides, pitilessly pierces my loins, and pours my gal out on theground.13 I suoi arcieri mi circondano;
mi trafigge i fianchi senza pietà,
versa a terra il mio fiele,
14 Breach after breach he drives through me, charging on me like a warrior.14 mi apre ferita su ferita,
mi si avventa contro come un guerriero.
15 I have sewn sackcloth over my skin, thrown my forehead in the dust.15 Ho cucito un sacco sulla mia pelle
e ho prostrato la fronte nella polvere.
16 My face is red with tears, and shadow dark as death covers my eyelids.16 La mia faccia è rossa per il pianto
e sulle mie palpebre v'è una fitta oscurità.
17 Nonetheless, my hands are free of violence, and my prayer is pure.17 Non c'è violenza nelle mie mani
e pura è stata la mia preghiera.
18 Cover not my blood, O earth, and let my cry mount without cease!18 O terra, non coprire il mio sangue
e non abbia sosta il mio grido!
19 Henceforth I have a witness in heaven, my defender is there on high.19 Ma ecco, fin d'ora il mio testimone è nei cieli,
il mio mallevadore è lassù;
20 Interpreter of my thoughts there with God, before whom flow my tears,20 miei avvocati presso Dio sono i miei lamenti,
mentre davanti a lui sparge lacrime il mio occhio,
21 let my anguish plead the cause of a man at grips with God, just as a man might defend his fel ow.21 perché difenda l'uomo davanti a Dio,
come un mortale fa con un suo amico;
22 For the years of my life are numbered, and I am leaving by the road of no return.22 poiché passano i miei anni contati
e io me ne vado per una via senza ritorno.
