NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Then God spoke al these words. He said,1 Dio allora pronunciò tutte queste parole:
'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.2 "Io sono il Signore, tuo Dio, che ti ho fatto uscire dal paese d'Egitto, dalla condizione di schiavitù:
'You shal have no other gods to rival me.3 non avrai altri dèi di fronte a me.
'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.4 Non ti farai idolo né immagine alcuna di ciò che è lassù nel cielo né di ciò che è quaggiù sulla terra, né di ciò che è nelle acque sotto la terra.
'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;5 Non ti prostrerai davanti a loro e non li servirai.
but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.6 ma che dimostra il suo favore fino a mille generazioni, per quelli che mi amano e osservano i miei comandi.
'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.7 Non pronuncerai invano il nome del Signore, tuo Dio, perché il Signore non lascerà impunito chi pronuncia il suo nome invano.
'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.8 Ricordati del giorno di sabato per santificarlo:
For six days you shal labour and do al your work,9 sei giorni faticherai e farai ogni tuo lavoro;
but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.10 ma il settimo giorno è il sabato in onore del Signore, tuo Dio: tu non farai alcun lavoro, né tu, né tuo figlio, né tua figlia, né il tuo schiavo, né la tua schiava, né il tuo bestiame, né il forestiero che dimora presso di te.
For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.11 Perché in sei giorni il Signore ha fatto il cielo e la terra e il mare e quanto è in essi, ma si è riposato il giorno settimo.
'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.12 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, perché si prolunghino i tuoi giorni nel paese che ti dà il Signore, tuo Dio.
'You shal not kil .13 Non uccidere.
'You shal not commit adultery.14 Non commettere adulterio.
'You shal not steal.15 Non rubare.
'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.16 Non pronunciare falsa testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo.
'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'17 Non desiderare la casa del tuo prossimo.
Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking, the people were al terrified and kept their distance.18 Tutto il popolo percepiva i tuoni e i lampi, il suono del corno e il monte fumante.
'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'19 Allora dissero a Mosè: "Parla tu a noi e noi ascolteremo, ma non ci parli Dio, altrimenti moriremo!".
Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'20 Mosè disse al popolo: "Non abbiate timore: Dio è venuto per mettervi alla prova e perché il suo timore vi sia sempre presente e non pecchiate".
So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.21 Il popolo si tenne dunque lontano, mentre Mosè avanzò verso la nube oscura, nella quale era Dio.
Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.22 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Dirai agli Israeliti: Avete visto che vi ho parlato dal cielo!
You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.23 Non fate dèi d'argento e dèi d'oro accanto a me: non fatene per voi!
"You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.24 Farai per me un altare di terra e, sopra, offrirai i tuoi olocausti e i tuoi sacrifici di comunione, le tue pecore e i tuoi buoi; in ogni luogo dove io vorrò ricordare il mio nome, verrò a te e ti benedirò.
If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.25 Se tu mi fai un altare di pietra, non lo costruirai con pietra tagliata, perché alzando la tua lama su di essa, tu la renderesti profana.
You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '26 Non salirai sul mio altare per mezzo di gradini, perché là non si scopra la tua nudità.
