NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Then, on the order of King Darius, search was made in the archives deposited in the treasuries inBabylon1 Allora il re Dario ordinò che si facessero ricerche nell'archivio, là dove si conservano i tesori a Babilonia,
and a scrol was found in the fortress of Ecbatana, which ran as follows: 'Memorandum.2 e a Ecbàtana, la fortezza che è nella provincia di Media, si trovò un rotolo in cui era scritto:
"Promemoria.
'In the first year of King Cyrus, King Cyrus issued this order: "Temple of God in Jerusalem. "The Templeis to be rebuilt as a place of offering sacrifice and its foundations retained. Its height is to be sixty cubits, its widthsixty cubits,3 Nell'anno primo del re Ciro, il re Ciro prese questa decisione riguardo al tempio in Gerusalemme: la casa sia ricostruita come luogo in cui si facciano sacrifici; le sue fondamenta siano salde, la sua altezza sia di sessanta cubiti, la sua larghezza di sessanta cubiti.
with three layers of large stones and one layer of timber. The cost is to be met by the royal treasury.4 Vi siano nei muri tre spessori di blocchi di pietra e uno di legno. La spesa sia pagata dalla reggia.
Furthermore, the gold and silver articles belonging to the Temple of God which Nebuchadnezzar tookfrom the Temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon are to be given back and returned to the temple inJerusalem, each to its proper place, and deposited in the Temple of God."5 Inoltre gli arredi del tempio fatti d'oro e d'argento, che Nabucodònosor ha portato via dal tempio di Gerusalemme e trasferito a Babilonia, siano restituiti e rimessi al loro posto nel tempio di Gerusalemme e ricollocati nella casa di Dio".
'Hence, Tattenai governor of Transeuphrates, Shethar-Bozenai and your associates, the officials ofTranseuphrates, keep away from there!6 "Quindi voi Tatténai, governatore d'Oltrefiume e Setar-Boznai, con i vostri colleghi funzionari residenti nell'Oltrefiume, tenetevi in disparte.
Leave the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews alone, to get on with their work on thatTemple of God; they are permitted to rebuild that Temple of God on that site.7 Lasciate che lavorino a quella casa di Dio il governatore dei Giudei e i loro anziani. Essi ricostruiscano questo tempio al suo posto.
And herewith are my instructions as to how you will assist these elders of the Jews in the rebuilding ofthat Temple of God: the cost is to be paid in ful to these men from the royal revenue, that is, from the taxes ofTranseuphrates, and without interruption.8 Ecco i miei ordini sull'atteggiamento che dovete tenere con questi anziani dei Giudei per la ricostruzione del tempio: dalle entrate del re, cioè dalla imposta dell'Oltrefiume, saranno rimborsate puntualmente le spese a quegli uomini, senza interruzione.
And whatever is required -- young bul s, rams, lambs for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, oil, as the priests in Jerusalem request -- is to be given them day by day without fail,9 Ciò che loro occorre, giovenchi, arieti e agnelli, per gli olocausti al Dio del cielo, come anche grano, sale, vino e olio, siano loro forniti ogni giorno senza esitazione, secondo le indicazioni dei sacerdoti di Gerusalemme,
so that they may offer sacrifices acceptable to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king andhis sons.10 perché si facciano offerte di odore soave al Dio del cielo e si preghi per la vita del re e dei suoi figli.
Furthermore I have issued an instruction that if anyone disobeys this order, a beam is to be torn fromhis house, he is to be impaled on it and his house is to be reduced to a rubbish-heap for his offence;11 Ordino ancora: se qualcuno trasgredisce questo decreto, si tolga una trave dalla sua casa, la si rizzi ed egli vi sia impiccato. Poi la sua casa sia ridotta a letamaio.
and may the God who has caused his name to live there overthrow the king of any people who daresto defy this and destroy that Temple of God in Jerusalem! I, Darius, have issued this order.
Tattenai governor of Transeuphrates, Shethar-Bozenai and their associates punctiliously obeyed theinstructions sent by King Darius;13 Allora Tatténai, governatore dell'Oltrefiume, Setar-Boznai e i loro colleghi eseguirono alla lettera quel che aveva comandato il re Dario.
and the elders of the Jews made good progress over their building, thanks to the prophetic activity ofthe prophet Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo, completing the reconstruction in accordance with the commandof the God of Israel and the order of Cyrus and of Darius.14 Quanto agli anziani dei Giudei, essi continuarono a costruire e fecero progressi con l'incoraggiamento delle parole ispirate del profeta Aggeo e di Zaccaria figlio di Iddo. Portarono a compimento la costruzione secondo il comando del Dio d'Israele e secondo il decreto di Ciro, di Dario e di Artaserse re di Persia.
This Temple was completed on the twenty-third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reignof King Darius.15 Si terminò la costruzione di questo tempio il giorno tre del mese di Adar nell'anno sesto del regno del re Dario.
The Israelites -- the priests, the Levites and the remainder of the exiles -- joyful y celebrated thededication of this Temple of God;16 Allora gli Israeliti, i sacerdoti, i leviti e gli altri rimpatriati celebrarono con gioia la dedicazione di questa casa di Dio;
for the dedication of this Temple of God they offered one hundred bul s, two hundred rams, fourhundred lambs and, as a sin offering for al Israel, twelve he-goats, corresponding to the number of the tribes ofIsrael.17 offrirono per la dedicazione di questa casa di Dio cento tori, duecento arieti, quattrocento agnelli; inoltre dodici capri come sacrifici espiatori per tutto Israele, secondo il numero delle tribù d'Israele.
Then they installed the priests in their orders and the Levites in their positions for the ministry of theTemple of God in Jerusalem, as prescribed in the Book of Moses.18 Inoltre stabilirono i sacerdoti divisi secondo le loro classi e i leviti secondo i loro turni per il servizio di Dio a Gerusalemme, come è scritto nel libro di Mosè.
The exiles celebrated the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.19 I rimpatriati celebrarono la pasqua il quattordici del primo mese,
The Levites, as one man, had purified themselves; al were pure, so they sacrificed the Passover for althe exiles, for their brothers the priests and for themselves.20 poiché i sacerdoti e i leviti si erano purificati tutti insieme come un sol uomo: tutti erano mondi. Così immolarono la pasqua per tutti i rimpatriati, per i loro fratelli sacerdoti e per se stessi.
So the Israelites who had returned from exile and al those who had renounced the filthy practices ofthe people of the country to join them in resorting to Yahweh, God of Israel, ate the Passover.21 Mangiarono la pasqua gli Israeliti che erano tornati dall'esilio e quanti si erano separati dalla contaminazione del popolo del paese e si erano uniti a loro per aderire al Signore Dio d'Israele.
For seven days they joyful y celebrated the feast of Unleavened Bread, for Yahweh had given themcause to rejoice, having moved the heart of the king of Assyria in their favour to support them in their work on theTemple of God, the God of Israel.22 Celebrarono con gioia la festa degli azzimi per sette giorni poiché il Signore li aveva colmati di gioia, avendo piegato a loro favore il cuore del re di Assiria, per rafforzare le loro mani nel lavoro per il tempio del Dio d'Israele.
