NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Jotham was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok.1 Quando Iotam divenne re, aveva venticinque anni; regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ierusa figlia di Zadòk.
He did what Yahweh regards as right, just as his father Uzziah had done. Only he did not enterYahweh's sanctuary. But the people continued to do wrong.2 Egli fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore come agì Ozia suo padre, ma non entrò nel tempio e il popolo continuava a pervertirsi.
It was he who built the Upper Gate of the Temple of Yahweh and carried out considerable work on thewal of the Ophel.3 Egli restaurò la porta Superiore del tempio; lavorò molto anche per le mura dell'Ofel.
He also built towns in the highlands of Judah and built forts and towers in the wooded areas.4 Ricostruì città sulle montagne di Giuda; costruì castelli e torri nelle zone boscose.
He also went to war against the king of the Ammonites and defeated them; and the Ammonites had togive him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand kor of wheat and ten thousand of barley that year. And theAmmonites paid him the same amount, the second and third years afterwards.5 Attaccò il re degli Ammoniti, vincendolo. Gli Ammoniti gli diedero in quell'anno - e anche nel secondo e terzo anno - cento talenti d'argento, diecimila 'kor' di grano e altrettanti di orzo; questo gli consegnarono gli Ammoniti.
Jotham became powerful because he kept an unswerving course before Yahweh his God.6 Iotam divenne potente, perché aveva sempre camminato davanti al Signore suo Dio.
The rest of the history of Jotham, al his wars and his policy, are recorded in the Book of the Kings ofIsrael and Judah.7 Le altre gesta di Iotam, tutte le sue guerre e la sua condotta, ecco sono descritte nel libro dei re di Israele e di Giuda.
He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem.8 Quando divenne re, aveva venticinque anni; regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme.
Then Jotham fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in the City of David; his son Ahazsucceeded him.9 Iotam si addormentò con i suoi padri; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Acaz.
