2 Chronicles 20

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 Some time later, the Moabites and Ammonites, and with them the Meunites, advanced to war againstJehoshaphat.	1 In seguito i Moabiti e gli Ammoniti, aiutati dai Meuniti, mossero guerra a Giòsafat.
2 Jehoshaphat received the following intel igence, 'A vast horde is advancing on you from the other sideof the Sea, from Edom; they are already at Hazazon-Tamar, that is, En-Gedi.'	2 Andarono ad annunziare a Giòsafat: "Una grande moltitudine è venuta contro di te da oltre il mare, da Edom. Ecco sono in Cazezon-Tamàr, cioè in Engàddi".
3 Jehoshaphat was alarmed and resolved to have recourse to Yahweh; he proclaimed a fast throughoutal Judah.	3 Nella paura Giòsafat si rivolse al Signore; per questo indisse un digiuno per tutto Giuda.
4 So Judah assembled to seek help from Yahweh; to seek Yahweh they came from every town inJudah.	4 Quelli di Giuda si radunarono per implorare aiuto dal Signore; vennero da tutte le città di Giuda per implorare aiuto dal Signore.
5 Then, standing in the Temple of Yahweh in front of the new court among the assembled people ofJudah and Jerusalem, Jehoshaphat	5 Giòsafat stette in piedi in mezzo all'assemblea di Giuda e di Gerusalemme nel tempio, di fronte al nuovo cortile.
6 said, 'Yahweh, God of our ancestors, are you not God in heaven, and do you not rule al the kingdomsof the nations? Your power and might are such that no one can resist you.	6 Egli disse: "Signore, Dio dei nostri padri, non sei forse tu il Dio che è in cielo? Tu domini su tutti i regni dei popoli. Nelle tue mani sono la forza e la potenza; nessuno può opporsi a te.
7 Did not you, our God, dispossess the inhabitants of this country for your people Israel and give it tothe descendants of Abraham, your friend, for ever?	7 Non hai scacciato tu, nostro Dio, gli abitanti di questa regione di fronte al tuo popolo Israele e non hai consegnato il paese per sempre alla discendenza del tuo amico Abramo?
8 They have lived in it and built you a sanctuary there for your name,	8 Gli Israeliti lo hanno abitato e vi hanno costruito un santuario al tuo nome dicendo:
9 saying, "If disaster, war, flood, pestilence or famine befal us, and we stand in front of this Temple,before you -- for your name is in this Temple -- and cry to you in our distress, then you wil listen and rescue us."	9 Se ci piomberà addosso una sciagura, una spada punitrice, una peste o una carestia, noi ci presenteremo a te in questo tempio, poiché il tuo nome è in questo tempio, e grideremo a te dalla nostra sciagura e tu ci ascolterai e ci aiuterai.
10 'Now see, the Ammonites and Moabites and the people of Mount Seir, whom you would not al owIsrael to invade when they came out of Egypt -- on the contrary, Israel avoided them, and did not destroy them-	10 Ora, ecco gli Ammoniti, i Moabiti e quelli delle montagne di Seir, nelle cui terre non hai permesso agli Israeliti di entrare, quando venivano dal paese d'Egitto, e perciò si sono tenuti lontani da quelli e non li hanno distrutti,
11 see how they reward us, by coming to drive us out of your possession which you allotted to us!	11 ecco, ora ci ricompensano venendoci a scacciare dalla eredità che tu hai acquistata per noi.
12 Our God, will you not pass sentence on them, since we are helpless against this vast horde about toattack us? Because we do not know what to do, we look to you.'	12 Dio nostro, non ci vorrai rendere giustizia nei loro riguardi, poiché noi non abbiamo la forza di opporci a una moltitudine così grande piombataci addosso? Non sappiamo che cosa fare; perciò i nostri occhi sono rivolti a te".
13 Al Judah, including their families, wives and children, were standing before Yahweh,	13 Tutti gli abitanti di Giuda stavano in piedi davanti al Signore, con i loro bambini, le loro mogli e i loro figli.
14 when, in the middle of the assembly, the spirit of Yahweh came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son ofBenaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah the Levite, a member of the clan of Asaph,	14 Allora lo spirito del Signore, in mezzo all'assemblea, fu su Iacazièl, figlio di Zaccaria, figlio di Benaià, figlio di Ieièl, figlio di Mattania, levita dei figli di Asaf.
15 who then cried, 'Listen, al Judah and you citizens of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat!Yahweh says this to you, "Do not be afraid, do not be daunted by this vast horde, for the war is not your affair butGod's.	15 Egli disse: "Porgete l'orecchio, voi tutti di Giuda, abitanti di Gerusalemme e tu, re Giòsafat. Vi dice il Signore: Non temete e non spaventatevi davanti a questa moltitudine immensa perché la guerra non è diretta contro di voi, ma contro Dio.
16 Go down against them tomorrow; they are coming up by the Slope of Ziz and you wil encounterthem at the end of the ravine near the desert of Jeruel.	16 Domani, scendete contro di loro; ecco, saliranno per la salita di Ziz. Voi li sorprenderete al termine della valle di fronte al deserto di Ieruel.
17 You wil not need to fight in this battle. Take up your position, stand firm, and see what salvationYahweh has in store for you. Judah and Jerusalem, be fearless, be dauntless; march out against them tomorrowand Yahweh will be with you." '	17 Non toccherà a voi combattere in tale momento; fermatevi bene ordinati e vedrete la salvezza che il Signore opererà per voi, o Giuda e Gerusalemme. Non temete e non abbattetevi. Domani, uscite loro incontro; il Signore sarà con voi".
18 Jehoshaphat bowed his head, his face to the ground, and al Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem feldown before Yahweh to worship Yahweh.	18 Giòsafat si inginocchiò con la faccia a terra; tutto Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme si prostrarono davanti al Signore per adorarlo.
19 Then the Levites -- both the Kohathites and Korahites -- stood up to praise Yahweh, God of Israel, atthe top of their voices.	19 I leviti, dei figli dei Keatiti e dei figli dei Korachiti, si alzarono a lodare il Signore, Dio di Israele, a piena voce.
20 Early next morning they prepared to set out for the desert of Tekoa. As they were setting out,Jehoshaphat stood up and said, 'Listen to me, Judah and you citizens of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh yourGod and you wil be secure; believe in his prophets and you wil be successful.'	20 La mattina dopo si alzarono presto e partirono per il deserto di Tekòa. Mentre si muovevano, Giòsafat si fermò e disse: "Ascoltatemi, Giuda e abitanti di Gerusalemme! Credete nel Signore vostro Dio e sarete saldi; credete nei suoi profeti e riuscirete".
21 Then, having conferred with the people, he appointed singers who were to praise Yahweh and go outahead of the army in sacred vestments, singing Praise Yahweh, for his faithful love endures for ever!	21 Quindi, consigliatosi con il popolo, mise i cantori del Signore, vestiti con paramenti sacri, davanti agli uomini in armi, perché lodassero il Signore dicendo: 'Lodate il Signore, perché la sua grazia dura sempre'.
22 The moment they began their shouts of praise, Yahweh sprang an ambush on the Ammonites,Moabites and the people of Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and that was the end of them,	22 Appena cominciarono i loro canti di esultanza e di lode, il Signore tese un agguato contro gli Ammoniti, i Moabiti e quelli delle montagne di Seir, venuti contro Giuda e furono sconfitti.
23 for the Ammonites and Moabites turned on the people of Mount Seir, and put them under the curseof destruction and then, having finished off the people of Seir, set to work slaughtering one another.	23 Gli Ammoniti e i Moabiti insorsero contro gli abitanti delle montagne di Seir per votarli allo sterminio e distruggerli. Quando ebbero finito con gli abitanti delle montagne di Seir, contribuirono a distruggersi a vicenda.
24 When Judah reached the point overlooking the desert and looked towards the horde, there werenothing but corpses lying on the ground; no one escaped.	24 Quando quelli di Giuda raggiunsero la collina da dove si vedeva il deserto, si voltarono verso la moltitudine, ed ecco non c'erano che cadaveri gettati per terra, senza alcun superstite.
25 When Jehoshaphat arrived to take the booty, they found quantities of cattle and innumerablepossessions, clothes and valuables, which they seized for themselves; it was impossible to carry it, and it tookthem three days to collect it.	25 Giòsafat e la sua gente andarono a raccogliere la loro preda. Vi trovarono in abbondanza bestiame, ricchezze, vesti e oggetti preziosi. Ne presero più di quanto ne potessero portare. Passarono tre giorni a raccogliere il bottino, perché esso era molto abbondante.
26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they blessed Yahweh -- hence theplace was given the name Val ey of Beracah, which it stil has today.	26 Il quarto giorno si radunarono nella valle di Beracà; poiché là benedissero il Signore, chiamarono quel luogo valle della Benedizione, nome ancora in uso.
27 Then al the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem with Jehoshaphat at theirhead as Yahweh had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies.	27 Quindi tutto Giuda e tutti quelli di Gerusalemme, con Giòsafat alla testa, partirono per tornare in Gerusalemme, pieni di gioia perché il Signore li aveva riempiti di letizia a spese dei loro nemici.
28 To the sound of lyre, harp and trumpet they came to Jerusalem, to the Temple of Yahweh,	28 Entrarono in Gerusalemme diretti al tempio, fra suoni di arpe, di cetre e di trombe.
29 and a panic from Yahweh seized al the neighbouring kings when they heard how Yahweh hadfought against the enemies of Israel.	29 Quando si seppe che il Signore aveva combattuto contro i nemici di Israele, il terrore di Dio si diffuse su tutti i regni dei vari paesi.
30 And henceforth Jehoshaphat's reign was undisturbed, for his God gave him peace all round.	30 Il regno di Giòsafat fu tranquillo; Dio gli aveva concesso la pace su tutte le frontiere.
31 So Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne and hereigned for twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.	31 Giòsafat regnò su Giuda. Aveva trentacinque anni quando divenne re; regnò venticinque anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Azuba figlia di Silchi.
32 He fol owed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what Yahweh regards as right.	32 Seguì la strada di suo padre, senza allontanarsi, per fare ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore.
33 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people had still not set their hearts on the God oftheir ancestors.	33 Ma non scomparvero le alture; il popolo non aveva ancora rafforzato il cuore nella ricerca del Dio dei suoi padri.
34 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, from first to last, is written down in the records of Jehu son ofHanani, which are quoted in the Book of the Kings of Israel.	34 Le altre gesta di Giòsafat, le prime come le ultime, ecco sono descritte negli atti di Ieu, figlio di Canàni, inseriti nel libro dei re di Israele.
35 Afterwards, Jehoshaphat formed a partnership with Ahaziah king of Israel, which was very wrong ofhim.	35 In seguito Giòsafat, re di Giuda, si alleò con Acazia re di Israele che agiva con empietà.

37 Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah then prophesied against Jehoshaphat as fol ows, 'Becauseyou have become Ahaziah's partner, Yahweh has wrecked your efforts.' The ships were wrecked and werenever fit to sail for Tarshish.	37 Ma Elièzer figlio di Dodava, di Maresa, predisse contro Giòsafat: "Perché ti sei alleato con Acazia, il Signore ha aperto una breccia nei tuoi lavori".
