NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Although Jehoshaphat enjoyed great wealth and honour, he al ied himself by marriage to Ahab.1 Giòsafat, che aveva ricchezza e gloria in abbondanza, si imparentò con Acab.
After some years he paid a visit to Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered an immense number of sheepand oxen for him and his retinue, to induce him to attack Ramoth-Gilead.2 Dopo alcuni anni scese da Acab in Samaria e Acab uccise per lui e per la gente del suo seguito pecore e buoi in quantità e lo persuase ad attaccare con lui Ramot di Gàlaad.
Ahab king of Israel then said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, 'Wil you come with me to Ramoth-Gilead?' He replied, 'I wil share in battle with you, my men with yours.'3 Acab re di Israele disse a Giòsafat re di Giuda: "Vuoi venire con me contro Ramot di Gàlaad?".
Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please consult the word of Yahweh.'4 Allora Giòsafat disse al re di Israele: "Consulta oggi stesso l'oracolo del Signore".
So the king of Israel cal ed the prophets together, four hundred of them. 'Should we go and attackRamoth-Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'March,' they replied, 'for God wil deliver it into the king'spower.'5 Il re di Israele radunò i profeti, quattrocento circa, e domandò loro: "Devo marciare contro Ramot di Gàlaad o devo rinunziarvi?".
Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, for us to consult?'6 Giòsafat disse: "Non c'è qui nessun profeta del Signore da consultare?".
The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, always unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'The king should not say such things,' said Jehoshaphat.7 Il re di Israele rispose a Giòsafat: "Ci sarebbe un uomo con cui consultare il Signore, ma io lo detesto perché non mi predice il bene ma sempre il male. Si tratta di Michea figlio di Imla". Giòsafat disse: "Il re mio signore non parli così".
The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'8 Il re di Israele, chiamato un consigliere, gli ordinò: "Convoca subito Michea figlio di Imla!".
The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes;in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets prophesying before them,9 Il re di Israele e Giòsafat re di Giuda, seduti ognuno sul suo trono, vestiti dei loro mantelli sedevano nell'aia di fronte alla porta di Samaria e tutti i profeti predicevano davanti a loro.
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "Withhorns like these, you will gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '10 Sedecia, figlio di Chenaana, che si era fatto corna di ferro, affermava: "Così dice il Signore: Con queste cozzerai contro gli Aramei sino ad annientarli".
And al the prophets prophesied in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth-Gilead! Success issure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'11 Tutti i profeti predicevano allo stesso modo: "Assali Ramot di Gàlaad, avrai successo; il Signore la metterà nelle mani del re".
The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look! What the prophets are sayingis uniformly favourable to the king. So I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'12 Il messaggero, che era andato a chiamare Michea, gli disse: "Ecco le parole dei profeti sono concordi nel predire il successo del re; ora la tua parola sia identica alle loro; predici il successo".
Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak exactly as Yahweh tells me!'13 Michea rispose: "Per la vita del Signore, io annunzierò solo quanto mi dirà il mio Dio".
When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we march to attack Ramoth-Gilead, orshould I hold back?' He replied, 'Go and conquer, Yahweh wil deliver them into your power!'14 Si presentò al re, che gli domandò: "Michea, dobbiamo marciare contro Ramot di Gàlaad oppure dobbiamo rinunziarvi?". Quegli rispose: "Attaccatela, avrete successo; i suoi abitanti saranno messi nelle vostre mani".
The king went on, 'How often must I put you on oath to tel me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'15 Il re gli disse: "Quante volte ti devo scongiurare di non dirmi altro che la verità in nome del Signore?".
Then he spoke out. I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go peaceful y home!'16 Allora egli disse:

"Ho visto tutti gli Israeliti
vagare sui monti
come pecore senza pastore.

At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'17 Il re di Israele disse a Giòsafat: "Non te l'avevo forse detto che non mi avrebbe predetto nulla di buono, ma solo il male?".
Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing on his right and on his left.18 Michea disse: "Pertanto, ascoltate la parola del Signore. Io ho visto il Signore seduto sul trono; tutto l'esercito celeste stava alla sua destra e alla sua sinistra.
Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into marching to his death at Ramoth-Gilead?" Atwhich some answered one way, and some another.19 Il Signore domandò: Chi ingannerà Acab re di Israele, perché marci contro Ramot di Gàlaad e vi perisca? Chi rispose in un modo e chi in un altro.
A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him." "How?"
He replied, "I shall go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of all his prophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."21 Rispose: Andrò e diventerò uno spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti i suoi profeti. Quegli disse: Lo ingannerai; certo riuscirai; va' e fa' così.
And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'22 Ecco, dunque, il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti, ma il Signore a tuo riguardo preannunzia una sciagura".
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'23 Allora Sedecia figlio di Chenaana si avvicinò e percosse Michea sulla guancia dicendo: "Per quale via lo spirito del Signore è passato da me per venire a parlare in te?".
'That is what you wil find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'24 Michea rispose: "Ecco lo vedrai quando passerai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti".
The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon governor of the city, and Joashthe king's son,25 Il re di Israele disse: "Prendete Michea e conducetelo ad Amon capo della città e a Ioas figlio del re.
and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '26 Riferite loro: Il re ordina: Mettetelo in prigione e mantenetelo con il minimo di pane e di acqua finché tornerò in pace".
Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'27 Michea disse: "Se tu tornerai in pace, il Signore non ha parlato per mezzo mio".
The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth-Gilead.28 Il re di Israele e Giòsafat re di Giuda marciarono su Ramot di Gàlaad.
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shall disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.29 Il re di Israele disse a Giòsafat: "Io mi travestirò per andare in battaglia. Tu resta con i tuoi abiti". Il re di Israele si travestì ed entrarono in battaglia.
Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'30 Il re di Aram aveva ordinato ai suoi capi dei carri: "Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma unicamente contro il re di Israele!".
So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is the king of Israel,' andsurrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry, Yahweh came to his help, God drew themaway from him,31 Quando i capi dei carri videro Giòsafat dissero: "È il re di Israele!".
for the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.32 Quando si accorsero che non era il re di Israele, i capi dei carri si allontanarono da lui.
Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' he said to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'33 Ma uno, teso a caso l'arco, colpì il re di Israele fra le maglie dell'armatura e la corazza.
But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on, and the king of Israel had to be held upright in hischariot facing the Aramaeans until the evening, and at sunset he died.34 La battaglia infuriò per tutto quel giorno; il re di Israele stette sul carro di fronte agli Aramei sino alla sera e morì al tramonto del sole.
