NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
The word of Yahweh came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:1 La parola del Signore fu rivolta a Ieu figlio di Canàni contro Baasa:
'I raised you from the dust and made you leader of my people Israel, but you have fol owed Jeroboam'sexample and led my people Israel into sins which provoke my anger.2 "Io ti ho innalzato dalla polvere e ti ho costituito capo del popolo di Israele, ma tu hai imitato la condotta di Geroboamo e hai fatto peccare Israele mio popolo fino a provocarmi con i loro peccati.
Now I shal sweep away Baasha and his House; I shal make your House like the House of Jeroboamson of Nebat.3 Ecco, io spazzerò Baasa e la sua casa e renderò la tua casa come la casa di Geroboamo figlio di Nebàt.
Those of Baasha's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the open country, the birds of the air wil eat.'4 I cani divoreranno quanti della casa di Baasa moriranno in città; quelli morti in campagna li divoreranno gli uccelli dell'aria".
The rest of the history of Baasha, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annalsof the Kings of Israel?5 Le altre gesta di Baasa, le sue azioni e le sue prodezze, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.
When Baasha fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Tirzah; his son Elah succeeded him.6 Baasa si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto in Tirza e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ela.
Furthermore, the word of Yahweh was delivered through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani againstBaasha and his House, first because of the many ways in which he had displeased Yahweh, provoking him toanger by his actions and becoming like the House of Jeroboam; secondly because he had destroyed that House.7 Attraverso il profeta Ieu figlio di Canàni la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Baasa e alla sua casa. Dio condannò Baasa per tutto il male che aveva commesso agli occhi del Signore, irritandolo con le sue opere, tanto che la sua casa era diventata come quella di Geroboamo, e perché egli aveva sterminato quella famiglia.
In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel at Tirzah, fortwo years.8 Nell'anno ventiseiesimo di Asa re di Giuda, su Israele in Tirza divenne re Ela figlio di Baasa; regnò due anni.
Zimri, one of his officers, captain of half his chariotry, plotted against him. While he was at Tirzah, drinking himself senseless in the house of Arza who was master of the palace in Tirzah,9 Contro di lui congiurò un suo ufficiale, Zimri, capo di una metà dei carri. Mentre quegli, in Tirza, beveva e si ubriacava nella casa di Arza, maggiordomo in Tirza,
Zimri came in, struck him down and kil ed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, andsucceeded him.10 arrivò Zimri, lo sconfisse, l'uccise nell'anno ventisettesimo di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò al suo posto.
On his accession, as soon as he was seated on the throne, he butchered Baasha's entire family, notleaving him one manjack of them alive, neither relative nor friend.11 Quando divenne re, appena seduto sul suo trono, distrusse tutta la famiglia di Baasa; non lasciò sopravvivere alcun maschio fra i suoi parenti e amici.
Zimri destroyed the whole House of Baasha, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spokenagainst Baasha through the prophet Jehu,12 Zimri distrusse tutta la famiglia di Baasa secondo la parola che il Signore aveva rivolta contro Baasa per mezzo del profeta Ieu,
because of all the sins of Baasha and his son Elah into which they had led Israel, provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.13 a causa di tutti i peccati di Baasa e dei peccati di Ela suo figlio, di quelli commessi da loro e di quelli fatti commettere a Israele, irritando con le loro vanità il Signore Dio di Israele.
The history of Elah, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings ofIsrael?14 Le altre gesta di Ela e tutte le sue azioni sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.
In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri became king for seven days, at Tirzah. Thepeople were then encamped in front of Gibbethon, a Philistine town.15 Nell'anno ventisettesimo di Asa re di Giuda, Zimri divenne re per sette giorni in Tirza, mentre il popolo era accampato contro Ghibbeton, che apparteneva ai Filistei.
When news reached the camp of how Zimri had not only plotted against but actual y killed the king, alIsrael proclaimed the army commander Omri as king of Israel in the camp that very day.16 Quando il popolo accampato colà venne a sapere che Zimri si era ribellato e aveva ucciso il re, tutto Israele in quello stesso giorno, nell'accampamento, proclamò re di Israele Omri, capo dell'esercito.
Omri, and all Israel with him, raised the siege of Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah.17 Omri e tutto Israele, abbandonata Ghibbeton, andarono a Tirza.
When Zimri saw that the town had been captured, he went into the keep of the royal palace, burnedthe palace over his own head, and died.18 Quando vide che era stata presa la città, Zimri entrò nella fortezza della reggia, incendiò il palazzo e così morì bruciato.
This was because of the sin which he had committed in doing what is displeasing to Yahweh, bycopying the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which he had led Israel.19 Ciò avvenne a causa del peccato che egli aveva commesso compiendo ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, imitando la condotta di Geroboamo e il peccato con cui aveva fatto peccare Israele.

The rest of the history of Zimri and of his conspiracy, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?20 Le altre gesta di Zimri e la congiura da lui organizzata sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.
The people of Israel then split into two factions: one half fol owing Tibni son of Ginath to make himking, the other half fol owing Omri.21 Allora il popolo di Israele si divise in due parti. Una metà parteggiava per Tibni, figlio di Ghinat, con il proposito di proclamarlo re; l'altra metà parteggiava per Omri.
But the faction of Omri proved stronger than that of Tibni son of Ginath; thus Tibni lost his life andOmri became king.22 Il partito di Omri prevalse su quello di Tibni figlio di Ghinat. Tibni morì e Omri divenne re.
In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel and reigned for twelve years. He reigned for six years at Tirzah.23 Nell'anno trentunesimo di Asa re di Giuda, divenne re di Israele Omri. Regnò dodici anni, di cui sei in Tirza.
Then for two talents of silver he bought the hil of Samaria from Shemer and on it built a town whichhe named Samaria after Shemer who had owned the hil .24 Poi acquistò il monte Someron da Semer per due talenti d'argento. Costruì sul monte e chiamò la città che ivi edificò Samaria dal nome di Semer, proprietario del monte.
Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.25 Omri fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, peggio di tutti i suoi predecessori.
In every way he copied the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the sins into which he had ledIsrael, provoking the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel, with their worthless idols.26 Imitò in tutto la condotta di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt, e i peccati che quegli aveva fatto commettere a Israele, provocando con le loro vanità a sdegno il Signore, Dio di Israele.
The rest of the history of Omri, his career, his valour, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals ofthe Kings of Israel?27 Le altre gesta di Omri, tutte le sue azioni e le sue prodezze, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.
When Omri fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in Samaria; his son Ahab succeeded him.28 Omri si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto in Samaria. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Acab.
Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and reignedover Israel for twenty-two years in Samaria.29 Acab figlio di Omri divenne re su Israele nell'anno trentottesimo di Asa re di Giuda. Acab figlio di Omri regnò su Israele in Samaria ventidue anni.
Ahab son of Omri did what is displeasing to Yahweh, and was worse than al his predecessors.30 Acab figlio di Omri fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, peggio di tutti i suoi predecessori.
The least that he did was to fol ow the sinful example of Jeroboam son of Nebat: he married Jezebeldaughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and then proceeded to serve Baal and worship him.31 Non gli bastò imitare il peccato di Geroboamo figlio di Nebàt; ma prese anche in moglie Gezabele figlia di Et-Bàal, re di quelli di Sidone, e si mise a servire Baal e a prostrarsi davanti a lui.
He erected an altar to him in the temple of Baal which he built in Samaria.32 Eresse un altare a Baal nel tempio di Baal, che egli aveva costruito in Samaria.
Ahab also put up a sacred pole and committed other crimes as well, provoking the anger of Yahweh,God of Israel, more than all the kings of Israel his predecessors.33 Acab eresse anche un palo sacro e compì ancora altre cose irritando il Signore Dio di Israele, più di tutti i re di Israele suoi predecessori.
It was in his time that Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. Laying its foundations cost him his eldest sonAbiram and erecting its gates cost him his youngest son Segub, just as Yahweh had foretold through Joshua sonof Nun.34 Nei suoi giorni Chiel di Betel ricostruì Gèrico; gettò le fondamenta sopra Abiram suo primogenito e ne innalzò le porte sopra Segub suo ultimogenito, secondo la parola pronunziata dal Signore per mezzo di Giosuè, figlio di Nun.
